Friday nights are made for sitting in the stands and cheering on the football team. However, when I sit in the stands I keep seeing this same kid being favored by the coach. Now how is that fair to the rest of the players. As the football season continues he keeps favoring Keegan, who is fast at everything he does. The only problem is he doesn't have a ride to or from practice. The coach would run around all over just to make sure Keegan was at practice. Cuz’ according to Coach Howard if u miss a day of practice that takes away your time in the game. Coach Howard would do anything to make sure Keegan was passing all of his classes so he could be player on that field on Friday. Even if it included getting a tutor to help him through. Now everyday that I go to school I hear this group of guys complaining about football because they never get their chance to show their dedication to football. That's because the coach only pays attention to his favorite and separate the favorites from the others. …show more content…
Or what if school is hard for them and it's hard for them to slide through without failing. That's not fair for them to not get a chance just because the coach doesn't think they are as good and as another person. I think if the coach is going to favor one player and do anything it takes just to have him on the field he should give everybody that choice. The one probably for this player that gets no choice might be he is always worried about his grades because he wants to do well in school. Or maybe he can't get a ride or be within distance of getting to practice which will hurt his player time. Along with the coach thinking his heart isn't in
I believe that their should stricter rules on how coaches treat their players. There have been many issues on how coaches treat their players like when coaches yell at their players they may cuss at them instead of explaining to them. When coaches need to talk to one of their players they yank them and pull them and that isn’t really needed.
Having a great coach in this sport is one of the main key components to having a good football team. I’ve met many football coaches and they all have the same traits thing in common - they have strong connections to their players. Football players spend their entire career with their coaches, meaning every weight lifting session and every practice. When it comes to practice, everyone on the team gets a chance to show what they’ve got to the coaches. The coaching staff care for everyone on the team and make sure everyone on the team, regardless of their starting status, receives the same amount of practice as all other players. The starting players are decided based on who works the hardest and contributes to the team more, not based on only who the best players
Relationships , character, teamwork are all things you learn and build through playing the game of football and winning doesn't teach those things. The grueling practices, the long hours of film, the adrenaline of games is what builds character and forms unbreakable relationships between players. In Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger, Permian doesn't care about any of that. They care about winning and nothing else. Permian fans don't care if Coach Gaines is making the kids better people or treating them like dogs, as long as Gaines is winning he can do whatever he likes.
There are double standards with the treatment of high school football players by fans, coaches, teachers, parents and school administrators, as they tend to look away if it is a
My race is Black, my ethnicity is African American and my culture (349) could be described as complicated. In applying these factors to my personal experiences I will refer to Matthew and Emirbayer’s “What is Racial Domination?” to explain the racial biases and discriminations that I have experienced from Arkansas to Los Angeles and ultimately Irvine. From the day of my birth my life and the opportunities presented or denied have been defined by racial domination and the Institutional racism of White Americans.
Keeping the student in school wins on multiple fronts but most importantly a better educated student. So if they are getting paid it will motivate the athlete to stay in college for a longer period of
It’s common practice because all colleges and the NCAA are concerned about is making money, and they will not sell as many tickets to sporting events if the starting quarterback is ineligible, or they will not win as many games if the star point guard is ineligible, so better to just keep them eligible and playing, right. Wrong, education should be at the forefront of every college. Mary Willingham a former learning specialist at the University of North Carolina who feels that way, described being appalled at the academic inability of so many players at the university. She was so disturbed by this that she began to speak out about it. She found that some of the student- athletes at the university had a fourth grade or lower reading level. A handful she even found to have no reading skills at all. The university of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is one of the most elite public schools in the country, yet some of their students could not read. What’s even sadder than that is that Willingham said quote “almost all the academically deficient players with whom I have
This descriptive report will be described two objects which designed by Scott Jarvie The first chair is the ‘One Cut Chair’ and following by this will be ‘The Atlas Chair’. Both chairs are unique comparing to the old tradition chair design. After this paragraph will be a biography of the designer, following by his design philosophy. After that it will be describing first product ‘One Cut Chair’, form there on will be another product ‘The Atlas Chair’, and finally is a conclusion of this report.
Sports and academics should be held to the same standard. Schools expect top notch performance on and off the field. In the Los Angeles magazine it states, “Berkeley graduation rate for its student-athletes has been as much as 11 points higher than the average for all Division 1 schools… the school cuts it’s top athlete no slack, but provides ample academics support for those who need it”(Cohen paragraph 13 & 27). Schools are expecting 100% from their athletes in academics and sports so they give their athletes no wiggle room and give them the academic help they need. That being said they need to work hard.
Again, college athletes are very important to their schools, they are the ones who rake in all the money. These athletes just cannot do it all and still keep up. College student athletes should be rewarded for their hard work and dedication with fair compensation because they are unable to hold full- time paying jobs, they have no time for extracurricular activities, and they work their hardest every day for their
Coaches should be required to give equal playing time to kids 13 and under because studies have shown that “70% of children are dropping out of organized sports by the age of 13” (Sullivan). There are multiple reasons for why this is happening. The kids could be finding new things that interest them more for example, but one of the reasons is because they’re sitting the bench, not getting playing time. A reason for the coach benching them is because they might be underdeveloped and not the best player so the coaches try to mandate their playing time. In an article, by an anonymous writer the person states that “If kids are on a team, and they never get to play meaningful minutes or get pulled out after any mistake, they are going to quit!” (Sullivan). This is true. Who wants to sit on the bench and be forced to watch your other teammates play. How are kids supposed to develop a real world view of the game? How are they supposed to improve?
College athletes are taken advantage of and deserve to be compensated for their services while playing sports. These students are exploited and used to make money and out of everything that particular school makes, the athlete never given a penny of it. All of the hard works, blood, sweat and tears that they put into that
The treatment of minority athletes, particularly African Americans has been a grave issue in American sports for decades. More than fifty years ago, to be a colored person playing a so- called “white sport,” meant that it was an unfortunate fact that inequality, prejudices and racial discrimination came along with that territory, and it is also an unfortunate fact that some of those racial tensions are yet in full, modernized effect today. African- American starting five, or starting lineman, being told what to do, when, and how to do it by their Caucasian coaches, and general managers, are in sync with past century notions of African- American slaves being under total dominion and authority of
In the Greek civilization, the gods and goddesses were a major influence on the Greeks. The Greek gods and goddesses consisted of the twelve Olympian gods who lived on Mount Olympus. These twelve Olympic gods included the three major gods: Zeus; ruler of the gods; Poseidon, god of the sea; and Hades, god of the underworld. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades were brothers commonly referred to as “The Big Three” in books such as Percy Jackson, by Rick Riordan, and the Pegasus series, by Kate O’Hearn. They were also sons of the Titan King Kronos.
