A lot have people have been nervous about their freshman year but eventually we all make friends and end off the year with a lot of great weird and sometimes depressing memories.
This is the case for Charlie from the book Perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
People should read this book because it teaches the importance of friends and family and it teaches that everybody has personal issues to go through. People should read this book because it teaches the importance of friends.
At the start of the novel charlie is just about to start his freshman year of highschool without any friends because his only friend michael killed himself but then at a football game he meets Sam and Patrick and make him a bit more sociable for example in a part of the novel he takes part in something called the rocky horror picture show in front of hundreds of people.By the end Charlie is now able to socialize and make more friends. This evidence shows how Perks of being a wallflower is partially about friendship and why it's important.Through socializing more and making new friends this shows that perks of being a wallflower teaches friendship and why it's important.
Perks of being a wallflower teaches the importance of family.
In the book perks of being a wallflower family issues are one of the main points of the novel Charlie the title character has family issues from his grandpa's past with his mom and his aunt helen's death “On december 24, 1983a policeman came to my door. My aunt
Though Charlie is an unreliable narrator in both film and novel form, he offers a sense of complete realism. From not quite dysfunctional families to first parties, Perks of Being a Wallflower immortalizes realistic moments in time like listening to a song for the first time in a car with friends. In one of the most memorable scenes from both the novel and the film, Charlie is in the car with Patrick and Sam and they’re driving through the tunnel after a dance. Charlie is there, completely in the moment with them and he says “…in that moment I swear, we were infinite,” (p 80). True reality is seemingly just out of grasp for Charlie until he meets Patrick and Sam. They tether him to reality and, alongside the rest of the “island of misfit toys” (movie quote), enable him to be and feel present in the moment. The narrative of the movie reflects that subtle change as when Charlie begins making friends with the step-siblings, the voice-overs, or Charlie’s inner monologue
life is not always about yourself you have to be considered of others and help other people that are going through things as you . what I like about this book is that working with others when getting picked on can talk about the problems and let it out so they won't feel like they don't have anybody to talk to about their problems . what I dislike about this book is that the characters have a little low self esteem when others says mean things about them . but this was a ver good book and I would most definitely recommend this to a family member or friend
Life lessons that the books gives is relationships, depression, and suicide. For example, it talked about an abusive relationship. In the book, Charlie’s sister has a boyfriend, who punches her in the face hard (Gale). The sister did not seek for help, instead, she kept the relationship going like if nothing bad had happened. This example can open up teenagers eyes especially when they are starting to build up love relationships and demonstrates what is not acceptable in a healthy relationship. Another example is when Charlie wanted to kill himself because he had depression. That can also happen to any other ordinary teenager. Any young reader can learn from this experience and if they go through this they can get some if it does get as bad as Charlie’s did. The Perks of Being a Wallflower also talks about rape. Rape is something big in life. The book talks of how rape can occur. Whoever reads the book, the person might when through rape when they were small and did not realize. Reading this will open their eyes and come out to the truth. Reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower may get the reader to realize how important and realistic it is that it can happen to any other person. As Bancroft mentions
I think that The Perks of Being a Wallflower is exceptional in its class of literary works mainly because Chbosky chose to push the limits of teen fiction. Most young adult writers are afraid to further explore the world of drugs, sexuality, and depression in too much detail. What most writers fail to realize is that high school vividly explains all those things. Young readers are ready for a book that seems to understand that too. Chobosky did a wonderful job at developing and defining each character. He made them seem real, which helps readers relate. Although many may think that the number of controversial issues discussed in the book makes it negative, the book is really about finding yourself in the midst of chaos and peer pressure. Charlie eventually
Freshman year could be a new world to everyone because it helps the student to grow both academic and physical. In my second semester at Seaman High School is full of an opportunity and lessons. Lessons that will help me to grow the to person I want to be. An opportunity to help me to have a better grade and succeed with the help of my teachers. My second semester is complicated. Finishing first semester did not mean that I can handle the second semester smoothly like I expected. The second semester is harder than the first semester but it helps me to find the woman I want to be.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a novel about coming of age that is seen through the perspective of Charlie, a young ‘wallflower’ that is starting high school and experiences the troublesome teenage life filled with drugs, sexuality and love. Charlie writes this book in a series of letters to an anonymous person. Charlie is the main protagonist of the story who is apprehensive and a kind-hearted boy however he has many problems happening in his life that he doesn’t like to concern others with “I just don’t want you to worry about me, or think you’ve met me, or waste your time anymore”. I admire Charlie because he is very considerate of others and although he is shy he overcomes this fear when he tries to find friends and step out of his comfort zone” Normally I am very shy, but (Patrick) seemed like the kind of guy you could just walk up to at a football game even though you were three years younger and not popular”. In return Charlie is rewarded with his first real friend at high school. I also admire Charlie for his mature attitude towards finding new friends and moving on from the death of his friend Michael. Charlie really needed to start interacting more with people, during the story we find out that Charlie misses having a friend and that being alone can be difficult and cause negative effects “It would be very nice to have a friend again. I would like that even more than a date”. I think
The story takes place between August 1991 - August 1992. The exact location is never revealed since charlie wanted to keep his privacy. Some locations that takes an important role in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower are Charlie’s high school, house and a tunnel that leads to downtown. Charlie’s high school is where he met sam and patrick, where he had a chance to join social events and one of the reasons why charlie started writing these letters. Charlie’s house is where he writes these letters. The tunnel is one of Sam and Patrick’ favourite place, when they go through them Sam would stand on the with her arms spread. They brought Charlie there and he felt infinite. This was one of the final locations that Charlie wrote about.
The great deal about this book are stories that it contain. You can realize, that your problems no matter how big they look like are not as scary as you think. You know, that it is not unusual in our society. You do not feel alone.

I had a great freshmen year. I have met some really awesome folks. I've learned so much here and I'm constantly challenged. I've also made a ton of mistakes. But thankfully, I think that's a good thing because I know what to look out for this year.
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” - Harriet Tubman. Charlie Gordon is a very welcoming, playful, and genuine man. He attends Beekman College for Retarded Adults and has a strong motivation to learn and to improve his intelligence. He dreams of being popular, and making friends. Throughout the novel Flowers for Algernon, Charlie Gordon changed in many ways. Prior to his life changing operation, he was not able to grasp that the people at Donner’s Bakery were not his friends, they only spoke to him to make fun of him. Charlie acknowledged their harsh actions, and started retaliating. Charlie is a very open
In "The Perks..." there are a variety of personalities portrayed through the book. Charlie being the "wallflower" of the title, was different from most of the other students at his high school. He understood what most didn 't and didn 't judge anyone for who they are or what they were like; on the contrary, he actually thought about and sometimes asked why they decided to be that way, and there was nothing more to it. Through out the book, entirely composed of letters to an unnamed "friend", he explains how he met eccentric people, like Sam and her step-brother Patrick; two kids a few years older than the at the time freshman Charlie. Sam
Loneliness is a feeling that everyone will experience at some point in their life. Loneliness can be felt even when you’re in a room full of people. In “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” the characters, including Charlie, are no exception to this feeling of being lonely. Teenagers are probably the age group that has this feeling the most. This a time in life that you are changing, the people around you are changing, and you’re finally growing up and maturing and each person handles these changes differently. We each will feel this as some point as we grow and realize that the things and the people that we have grown accustomed to won’t be there anymore because it’s time for us to experience new things in life.
In the film The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the main character, Charlie, struggles with depression and anxiety as a result of his post traumatic stress disorder. Charlie enters freshman year and has a difficult time meeting people, but a group of seniors become his friends and help him learn more about himself and the world. They take him to parties and give him the high school experience he always wanted.
We all have different kinds of the first day of school experiences, but for every student, I feel that stepping into the first day of school as a freshman would mark as the most memorable day in all high school years. Before the first day of school, I quickly thought that my freshman year would turn into the toughest and saddest year in my experience. My best friend would not attend the same high school with me, which already gives me many conclusions of how sad and hard of a school year it would result. However, maybe things will turn out differently than we think if we just change something about our way of living it.
