From Element to Riches
A diamond in a sense is the most communal, elegantly, used jewel used in circulation today. Do people in actuality understand the concept and edifice of this mineral? A diamond is known as the hardest rock in existence and to most of the world it is a piece of jewelry, but do we know what the chemical composition of a rock and how is it formed?
A diamond in actuality is carbon in its most concentrated form. While a few diamonds may have trace impurities such as boron or nitrogen, most diamonds are composed mostly of carbon. Carbon is a chemical that is fundamental in the process of life and used in various amounts of ways on the Earths

When the light energy in the diamond equals the amount needed to change the electron configuration, parts of the spectrum are then absorbed. Pure diamonds are colorless because the visible light does not have enough energy to alter the electron configuration, meaning that no light can be absorbed. However when the diamond contains impurities such as nitrogen, boron, or hydrogen or has structural flaws electron states can be effected by the visible lights energy allowing the diamond to display colors such as yellow, blue, red, violet, real white, black, and many others.
Diamonds are poor electrical conductors due to their transparent color; they can however, be used as an insulator and in some rare diamonds, such as the gray-to-blue ones, can be used as semi-conductors. Diamonds are excellent conductors of heat though. Their capacity for heat conduction exceeds that of copper by about four times, when at room temperature. The vibrational energy travels along the strong internal chemical bonds of the crystals. Therefore the incredible strength of the diamond provides excellent thermal conduction as well.
Diamonds form in the molten rock at the Earth’s mantle, about a hundred miles below the surface. In order for a diamond to form the carbon must be subjected to temperatures of at least 752 degrees Fahrenheit and under pressure of at least 435,113lbs per square inch. After being formed diamonds are
Diamond is affected by the rock cycle in many different ways. One way is that without the process of which metamorphic rocks would form, then there would be no diamonds (Crain). They need to go through that process, so the sediments become a diamond. Another way that diamonds are affected by, as said by Crain, the rock cycle is the process of how Igneous rocks will be formed. Depending on the volcanic eruption happened the diamond may be created differently. There are different paths the sediments can take to become a diamond, also all the ways are made possible by the rock cycle.
Carnegie came from humble beginnings, but through his extraordinary vision he would become the richest man on the planet and would display idealized influence and inspirational motivation through his philanthropic endeavors, inspiring the nation’s richest to give to charities through the use of foundations. Carnegie was born in Scotland and moved to U.S with his family in 1848 when he was 12 years old. His father attempted to start a weaving business in America, but failed, leaving Carnegie to work in a mill for $1.20 a week (Goldin, 1988, p. 13). Carnegie would go to on to build a fortune worth almost $450 million by making investments and building a technologically advanced steel making process at a time when the U.S was using steel
Since diamond is such a durable material, it can only be cut by another diamond.
* Diamond is the strongest natural mineral known by a man. It is a crystalline form of carbon.
Diamond is one of the most expensive gemstones. It is rare and it has difficult ways to extract. Diamond has been discoverd from thousands of years, it is the result of exposure carbon to heat under the ground over onethousand and fourhandred dgrees, and this is how diamonds are shaped. In this essay I will write , explain and compare between the four article about purpose and audence.
Since the brilliant stones was found more than 100,000 jewels have been recuperated from the site now known as Crater of Diamonds State Park. The normal size of the diamond is around .21 carat.
Diamond Chemicals is a leading producer of polypropylene, the polymer used in a variety of products (ranging from medical products to packaging film, carpet fibers, and automotive components) and is known for its strength and elasticity.
Most people in today’s society define success as someone who makes a lot of money or has done something important to help form today’s society. People such as Bill Gates or Donald Trump are considered successful because they have lots of money. Even actors whose lives are wrecked and destroyed are considered successful because of the money they have. Others, like Thomas Edison, are considered successful because of accomplishments they achieved in their lives. Thomas Edison, for example, created the light bulb, so most people would consider him successful. In his book, Think & Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill gives 13 steps on how to have the right mindset, attitude, and ability to become successful.
Heart of Darkness: How European imperialism relates to blood diamonds Josh Ferguson Imperialism is defined as a policy of expanding a country's power and impact through diplomacy or military force. Between the 1850’s and 1900’s the prodigious European powers were raiding Africa and were taking control of the natives and their resources just like they did to the Native Americans 300 years prior. Blood diamonds also known as conflict diamonds are diamonds that are mined mainly in African countries that are sold to fund civil wars. According to www.amnestyusa.org “The devastating wars in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sierra Leone’s wars that have cost an estimated 3.7 million lives.” How does this European imperialism relate
All minerals have a crystal structure.A mineral is a naturally occurring, Inorganic, Solid, with a unique chemical composition, and a crystalline structure. (Class Notes 11/03/15). The minerals form when the magma starts to cool inside of crust, they started to cool in the water and water start to evaporate ,the liquid cool and mineral get a solid form.Citation (Video-How the Earth Made Us episode 1:deep earth). The Crystal that were made in lab weren’t not because they formed by using man made formula. The August Birthstone was a minerals because birthstone by geologic processes in rocks in their natural environment.(http://www.burkemuseum.org/geology/birthstones/)The
The story of these infamous diamonds all started with a fifteen year old who found a diamond in his father 's arm. The diamond business started in 1935 when “De Beers” took all control over dining prospects in Sierra Leone. De Beers are a group of companies has a main role in the exploration of diamonds, as well as diamond mining, diamond retail, diamond trading, and industrial diamond manufacturing sectors. This group was founded in 1888, and they are responsible for the problems Sierra Leone is facing today. These diamonds can be found in volcanic pipes. Diamonds are a pure form of carbon in a transparent state. Diamonds have always been a sign of wealth. Historically kings and queens were known for wearing these. Over time many people began lusting over them.
One may think that he or she would want to own a diamond that is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, but when it comes to the Hope Diamond, one might want to reconsider. One of the best known jewels in the world, throughout history, and even today is the Hope Diamond. It is a beautiful blue gem, but oddly is not famous for its appearance. The diamond is so well-known because of the fascinating story that follows it. The stone currently rests in the Smithsonian and is admired by the millions that visit the museum. People are intrigued by the 45.52 carat diamond and the interesting history behind it. The Hope Diamond, one of the most famous jewels in history, is believed to be cursed and brings bad luck to those who obtain it, including Jean Baptiste Tavernier,
d) Synthetic diamond is not a mineral. In order for an object to be a mineral, it must be naturally occurring, inorganic, solid, have orderly crystalline structures, and definite chemical compositions. Synthetic diamond isn’t classified by a mineral because it is human
Although there are no firm estimates of how many diamonds are in circulation, to put these numbers into perspective, one out of 25 diamonds to three out of 20 diamonds will trace back to an illegal source. However many of the diamonds that are mined today are claimed to be conflict free. De Beers, the largest producer of diamonds in the world, states on its website that “more than 99% (99.8%) of the world’s diamonds are certified conflict free” (FAQs). This statement from the De Beers Company shows that there is progress being made however there is still a gap in the industry for which conflict diamonds may sneak through. Although miniscule amounts of blood diamonds are being traded today, they still pose a threat to the world if any rogue nation decides to begin buying blood diamonds thus filling the coffers of the warlords and perpetuating the violence that already plagues countries like Sierra Leone.
Color. Clarity. Cut. Carat Weight: These four words are what jewelers in the industry use to determine the monetary value of a diamond. However in 1947 De Beers found a way to not only boost their sales but also make a psychological necessity out of this sparkly stone, and it all began with four vastly different words, “A Diamond Is Forever” (Frances Garety), and accompanied by phrases such as “Isn’t two months’ salary a small price to pay for something that lasts forever (N.W. Ayers)?
