In his speech, Conservation as a National Duty, Theodore Roosevelt asserts his passion for conservation and preservation onto a group of governors, statesmen, and conservationists. Throughout his message, he details several reasons for the nation to stop wasting natural resources and begin conserving them. He also states that the question of the conservation and use of the great fundamental sources of wealth, of this nation is second only to the question of morality.
Theodore Roosevelt was one of our greatest presidents. He created the FDA and improved the position of the presidency greatly. Before Theodore came to be president, the position of presidency was slow and wasn’t very interesting so he made the executive branch more powerful by starting new reforms and a strong foreign policy. The life of a president is hard. It is full of stress, responsibilities, and a strong dedication the welfare of your country. Theodore had to deal with all of these presidential stresses, taking up much of his time. Do you know, though, that despite being a president, he led a life of excitement and freedom that many other presidents had never before experienced? Theodore, “Teddy” as his first wife Alice called him,
Americans have become used to politicians who will not go against their party’s line. Instead of having numerous free thinking elected officials who come together to ensure the welfare of society, we have two parties that control almost everything. This was not how Theodore Roosevelt led our country. He was a visionary and ethical leader. This paper explains why by describing Theodore Roosevelt’s use of visionary leadership to protect America’s natural resources by being an emotionally flexible leader and using his inspirational motivation. Theodore Roosevelt was an Ethical Leader because he put service before self by resigning from the position of Assistant Secretary of the Navy to fight in the Spanish American War and was a free thinker who went against his party to protect the welfare of society. Theodore Roosevelt has personal relevance in my development as a leader by modeling service before self and allowing me to see how I can improve my inspirational motivation. In order to understand Theodore Roosevelt as a leader, you should first know the impact of his visionary leadership.
Roosevelt was a true conservationist at heart. The Theodore Roosevelt Association stated, “As a boy, Theodore Roosevelt wanted to be a naturalist, a scientist who revels in and examines nature,” and he was “…an avid adventurer and lover of nature, dedicated himself to protecting both wildlife and natural resources” ("The CONSERVATIONIST"). As the President, he never forgot his dreams as a child, and he set out to preserve an immense amount of US regions so all Americans could enjoy. He especially had the future generations in mind ("The CONSERVATIONIST"). He realized something must be done for he believed at the rate of deforestation, and harvesting of other recourses, it wouldn't take long for it all to vanish. To fight the recourse of losing all the rich natural resources and splendorous landscape across the US, he created national parks and landmarks to preserve and protect these beautiful natural miracles. “Roosevelt provided federal protection for almost 230 million acres of land,” for national use, so these majestic places were protected from harm due to commercialism ("The CONSERVATIONIST"). He established 150 national forests, 5 national parks, the 1st of 51 federal bird reservations, 24 reclamation, and 4 national game preserves, including 18 national monuments in his time. By establishing these parks and landmarks, it allowed Americans and tourists, alike, the
Theodore Roosevelt may be one of the most powerful presidents that attacked Trusts1 and corporations to make them just so that everyone could prosper. Thayer, a friend of Roosevelt wrote, ". . .he took the deepest personal satisfaction in fighting the rich and the soulless corporations. . ." (Thayer). This led into the 1920's a prosperous decade in which people received "new money." Theodore Roosevelt stressed more for people to be responsible than to be autonomous, or, in other words, to help others besides helping yourself. He was able to bring two separate groups together to make a better America. He brought the Trusts that wanted the government to stay away and then the other side
Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most popular, important and progressive presidents of the United States. He showed many acts of courage as president, which greatly shaped the direction the county went in both domestic and foreign policy. Roosevelt showed courage even before his presidency, while he worked as a frontier sheriff across the midwest United States. Both his college education at Harvard and years of service as frontier sheriff prepared Roosevelt to be an effective US president. Roosevelt's courageous accomplishments had a very positive impact on the nation.
The Lincoln Principle, If you never try, you'll never succeed, applies greatly to Theodore Roosevelt. If he had not tried to change America many things would be different even now. He regulated businesses more so that they didn't become as powerful as they were becoming. He wanted to change things so he did. If he had not pushed to have the Panama Canal finished it probably would have taken much longer and more people may have died in the making of the Canal from going slower and more mosquitos and such insects are able to suck the blood from people. This puts them at a higher risk to get diseases transmitted by the insects.
His authoritative figure saved Americans from freezing when 250,000 of Carnegie’s coal miners went on strike. TR had threatened that he would send the government in to take it over. “To hell with the constitution, America needs heat.” Also, TR was an imperialist and a realist. He is most characterized by his aggression. This to him meant growth. He was a man of conquest and won power through constant attack. Secondly, President Roosevelt was known for his personal righteousness. Everything he did was what he perceived as justice. He was a “strong, clean-living, and industrious” man. Third, Teddy Roosevelt had a strong sense of pride. He was the first American president who was not British and was very proud of his diversity. Lastly, Roosevelt was known for being militaristic. He regrets he never had a big war. He thought that war was proof of manhood. He built the US navy to 2nd largest in the world when it had previously been the 5th largest. TR loved his job and the American people loved him for being so good at it. During his term he would reform domestically and reform capitalists. He also opened up the famous Yellowstone National Park. Although TR would have easily been elected for a third term, he knew that too much power could corrupt a man and that it wouldn’t be good
Teddy Roosevelt was a very strong influence during the progressive era; He used his power a president to get what he wanted as a progressive. He helped things like the pure food and drug act pass, and used the Sherman Antitrust act to dissolve Carnegie's Monopoly. He was a very strong leader and was not about to be pushed around, so it was very good to have him as president during the Progressive era when some are fighting for the new and some are fighting for the old.
Roosevelt is considered the first modern and environmentalist president. He significantly expanded the power and influence of the Executive Office. (Miller Center) Roosevelt worked two terms as president. During his first term, he primarily focused on “being president” and during his second term he acted as a conservationist. (Gaines 31) He

The Russo-Japanese War was going on from 1904-05, he won the Noble Peace Prize by being the meditator of the peace between the two countries. TR was a progressive leader and a trustworthy president even nicknamed “Trust Buster.” His policies regarding trust and labor reform were part of what he called the “Square Deal.” TR was a conservationist and naturalist, he preserved natural habitats and wildlife; more than 125 million acres were set aside being protected by the public. Roosevelt combined an interest in military affairs and a belief in expansionism. He strengthened the U.S. army and expanded the navy to
Here are some reason to why some people would like Teddy Roosevelt is for example the farmers would like him as he passed Newlands Reclamation Act and what this lets them do is able to build farms in areas that they want. Also the environments would like for when he runned for president because of the same Newlands Reclamation Act and what this act also does is make the national park system where certain areas would be discluded from being able to build on but people can still visit the area.People

And not only did he make economic reforms of this huge scale he with the congress created The Food and Drug Administration.
Teddy Roosevelt, created the square deal because he think people of different social classes should have the same opportunities to be successful. For example, he read the book the Jungle and found out that the meat was all infected. So he passed down the law of inspecting the food called the MIA (meat inspected and clean). Also, he implemented the FDA (food drug administration) that is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through supervising food, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription and over the counter pharmaceutical drugs. In addition when he was a kid Teddy had asthma, that made him not being able to do what other kid did so he was a spectator. There he became a nature lover so, to protect the environment
