Fun Fact of the Day: NY Stop and Frisk- Blacks and latinos stopped more than whites were; More force was used on POC than whites, however they were twice more likely to find something on whites than a POC
Throughout the country black people are being killed unlawfully and the police usually white are getting away with the murders they committed.
Imagine the police put you in a chokehold which is banned to use in their state. You can’t breathe you keep asking for help and paramedics are there, but they just stand doing nothing. This whole time you’re begging for help because you don’t want to die but you do. This was all because you were selling loose cigarettes. They killed you over something so small. You are remembered by the words “I can’t

Police show up in military gear. Riots break out. They’re throwing tear gas, shooting rubber bullets and arresting as many people as they can. Children are being hurt even people not participating are being hurt. All because they’re black. Then you hear the news. “These people are acting like animals! Really destroying your city over this?” Although white people have been known to have riots over sports because their team lost, but that’s ok as long as black people don’t do it even if it’s because of their brothers and sisters being killed left and right.
“Racism is still with us. But if it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully we shall overcome.”- Rosa Parks
They tell you that racism is over, that you’re over reacting, that it’s their fault for being killed. As long as you follow the law, you won’t die. If being killed for petty crimes is normal for everyone, when in reality it’s not. Racism is not over and won’t be for a long time if this continues.
This shouldn’t still be happening in a country who praises that it’s equal for all. A country who prides themselves on this supposed “freedom”. A country built on the genocide and slavery of the people they claim to help now. Are we really free if we can be killed because of our skin? Is this the equality our ancestors wanted for us? The lives they dreamed
Describe: Albert Bierstadt's The Rocky Mountains, Lander's Peak (1863) and David P. Bradley's, Indian Country Today (1997) are created by different authors, possible for different reasons, but they have a similar subject matter. They both picture nature. Bierstadt's painting shows the landscape of the Rocky Mountains, hence the name.
Race riots are one of the major news items we hear about via the media when a social crisis occurs. The riots in Baltimore, however, were not so much about race, but more about economic and social class separations. The riots began as a peaceful protest amongst the citizens of Baltimore over the death of one of their own, Freddie Gray. Gray was a young, African-American, from a financially lower class area of Baltimore. Unfortunately, he died while in custody of the Baltimore Police. While this is a tragic loss, he was unlawfully detained by the police (Sarlin, 2015) during this ordeal. On the surface, the riots may appear as a cut-and-dry race provoked, once they are looked into further, that is not necessarily the case.
For decades racial discrimination has been a reoccurring issue that has shaped the relationships across the country. Riots, in the case of the L.A. riots, are a form of venting and a negative form of freedom of expression. Almost immediately after the jury`s decision to seize the officers of charges that included assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force towards King, riots broke out across Los
African Americans and Latinos collectively represent only 54% of New York City’s population , but they account for a much larger proportion of searches under the city’s stop-and-frisk program . In 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, African Americans and Latinos collectively accounted for
In the weeks that followed the death of Freddie Gray at the hands of the Baltimore police, a group of protestors known as BlackLivesMatter, gathered with the intentions of demanding public awareness over the persistent discrimination and violence that African Americans are subjected to by Police Officers around the Country. Following Mr. Gray’s death, on April 25th of 2015, a small number of protestors attending the B.L.M. protest turned an otherwise non-violent protest into a violent bout of civil disorder which led to several dozen arrests, an estimated 15 officer injuries and mass rioting, looting and burning of the local businesses including a CVS pharmacy. Ultimately, a state of emergency was declared and the National Guard was brought in to resolve the conflicts.
In Ravisankar’s Lantern Ohio state university student newspaper essay, “ Sweatshop Oppression” writer Rajeev Ravisankar uses Black Friday as an opening to show the great lengths that consumers are willing to go to achieve the most products for the lowest price possible. The problem that he identifies is the rampant state of the consumer who is lost in their own mind in acquiring the best deals and not thinking otherwise into the human cost that goes in to producing the items they are buying. His second goal is to bring awareness to the conditions and day-to-day work life of the many who suffer horrid conditions in these sweatshops. He assumes that his readers have some knowledge of the term sweatshop, but many do not understand the conditions
In Linda Chavez’s, “Hispanics and the American Dream” she starts by showing the growth of Hispanics in America and how they are depicted. She sees them as a valuable part of society that is steadily climbing to new heights on the socioeconomic ladder, yet the population perceives them to be the lower end and will likely remain that way. She goes on to prove this assumption by the way Hispanics are shown in the media, which states that poor and Hispanic goes hand in hand when thought of. What is failed to be seen is that most Hispanics are steadily in the middle class, but this varies within the group just as it does with all races. The analysts take into consideration the immigrants who have just entered America, legal or illegal, which in turn causes the balance to shift towards the poor side of the spectrum. Our overall perception of Hispanics plays a role in their place in society.
Police ruthlessness against african americans have been among us for a considerable length of time . from slave days until the 20 century . Every last one of those passings of these youthful african americans have brought about a great deal of hurt and agony to a considerable measure of families. The most well-known killings in the unified states have been activated upon african americans. The vast majority of these killings are cause due to " generalization" while somebody will look upon an african american and consequently think " It 's a dark man, they might be perilous, destructive ,or even horrendous" . There are a large number of situations where police have not been charged for unlawful murdering .cops additionally have their own particular mystery codes that helps them in each circumstance that they may wind up in, either on the off chance that they are pure or not . Families need to live with the way that no equity will be given to them, because sadly the law dependably wins .
This issue goes all the way back to Martin Luther King and the Rosa Parks incident. There is a movement today dedicated to ending the killing of black people by racist police officers. This is the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement. Dani McClain explains that the demands of BLM are to put an “end to the disproportionate killing of black people by law-enforcement officials and vigilantes, and [to] seek to root out white supremacy wherever it lives” (McClain). McClain explains that there are racist cops that kill black people because they think that they are above the law. According to McClain, BLM originated when Zimmerman was not charged for the death of Trayvon Martin. Protesters gathered and BLM was created to stop the killing of blacks as seen in fig.
“The scars and stains of racism are still deeply embedded in the American society.” US Representative, John Lewis said this in his return to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial he spoke on 54 years ago, during the March on Washington. Racism has been around since the beginning of time, but it is not human nature. Racism is something that is taught, and given the amount of time that has passed since To Kill A Mockingbird and the March on Washington, one would think that racism wouldn’t be a serious issue any more. Although race relations have improved along with other social issues from the time of To Kill Mockingbird, racism and discrimination are major problems in today’s society.
Imagine your son going out to the real world he has a kid and a wife then there's a knock on the door and you look thru the peephole and the cops and their heads are down and you're confused you open the door and they tell you “Ma’am your son has died”,and you say how they say he has been gunned down by an officer and you know your son was unarmed and you're confused because your son has nevered been doing something bad. This and every day thing you see to african american some are innocent and unarmed and they get shot by police because they say they were fighting back or they were about to pull out a gun and this happens everywhere and police brutality happens every state and everywhere and it mostly happens to african american and other races.
The brutality of the police force has been a long worldwide problem, but especially between the years of 2012-2016. Black people are being unjustly beaten and shot in plain sight for doing nothing while being unarmed. Journal of African American Studies “Blacks are viewed as deserving of harsh treatment in the criminal justice system” (482). “Black males with more “Afrocentric” features may receive longer sentences than blacks with less Afrocentric features like lighter skin and straighter hair”(482). Nowadays it is important to know about the police force. It’s important to know our rights as citizens and be careful around cops. Not everybody is good, but not everybody is bad also. In The New York Amsterdam News 21 people were killed by Chicago police in 2008. Entire families were being attacked. They believe it’s because of their skin color and how they are different. The year of racism started off with the world seeing the police murder of Oscar Grant. “The media have pushed people away from hearing the issue of police brutality, and it has fallen off of the radar screen.”(2) “You can’t give in. They will try to make an example out of you, try to break your spirit!”(2) African Americans say do not trust the cops with anything. “They will ruin you.”(2)
Although African Americans may make up 13% of the U.S. population and 14% of monthly drug users, they are 37% of the people arrested for drug offenses. The chances of a policeman stopping blacks are higher than the chances of them stopping whites. It is proven that the police force will ignore the situation of a white person committing a major crime. Compare any case of a black person involved with drugs to the case of Dylann Roof, a white twenty-one year old that opened fire and killed nine black people, and nothing makes sense. Witnesses say he proclaimed his hate for black people right before he began shooting. When he was arrested, the police were very polite to him and never treated him
Last year, blacks were killed very often and in bad demeanors by cops. Alton Sterling was pinned to the ground, hands up unarmed, was shot twice in the chest and died. Nothing happened to those cops because they say it was self-defense. Another incident where a black male was pulled over his hands clearly shown on his steering wheel, was shot dead with his wife and son in the car. Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in his own neighborhood just because of his appearance, the man was set
Ironically, “Cops killed nearly twice as many whites as blacks in 2015, 50 percent of the victims of fatal police shootings were white, while 26 percent were black. The majority of these victims had a gun or, were armed or threatening the officer with potentially lethal force.” “Alternatively, some believe that these statistics are
