Hallelujah, the filth is back. The Richmond-based rapper G-Mo Skee hit his "Filthianity" followers with the "Wombo Combo" when dropping his filthiest EP to date -- The Android FiLFTEEN EP. Those who keep tabs on the underground hip-hop, rap, or Horrorcore music scene may have heard G-Mo on a handful of TeamBackPack Cyphers. There's an even greater chance you heard him in the Funk Volume Contest in which he placed 3rd place. For those who don't dig quite as deep for tunes, you more than likely haven't heard of G-Mo Skee since with his style he's unlikely to get radio play with his choice words and concepts. However, if Jedi Mind Tricks, Swollen Members or Tech N9ne are gracing your music library, know there're some similarities you might enjoy. …show more content…
C-Lance is one of the up-and-coming producers for Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks but is also credited for producing beats for Mad Child of Swollen Members, and of course now G-Mo Skee. C-Lance switched lanes multiple times on The Android FiLFTEEN EP by changing up on different sample types which produced a wide variety of different sounds and some of the top songs on the EP. Instrumentals ranged from a whimsical Sesame Street inspired track "Friendly Neighborhood G-Mo" to a thunderous and rowdy track "Sabotage". Violence is met with force by G-Mo's passionate lyrical skills complimenting those C-Lance instrumentals throughout the …show more content…
There's enough of anger, threats, and hate to be spread around to all. There's even some decent wordplay scattered about. Nearing the end, track #11 "Ignant" is worthy of comparison to some of Eminem's early work with equal levels of aggression, sexual innuendos, and most importantly the onomatopoeia's. Followed by track "Represent", this is the only track to have other artists featured; these artists include Jae Harmony, Nobe, and Crowda. It surely wouldn't have hurt to have a small handful of other artists on other songs to bring more to the table either. At least with varying producers, and diversified samples, there's enough variation to never become too monotonous at any point.
Arguably, one of the greatest issues with The Android FiLFTEEN EP as a whole is that the outro track is simply non-existent to compliment the intro in the same manner we were brought in. While it's an EP and doesn't necessarily need to be confined to having an album experience, it would have made for absolute completion. Instead, G-Mo Skee decided to stop on the track "Sabotage". Although, both the intro and "Sabotage" convey similar messages of hatred, it's not quite the same. I'll admit it's a fantastic track and within my top 3 on the extended play but ultimately detracts from the experience in
The style of the song is very crucial in how it comes across to the listener. It is a simple song with a mellow sound and a focus on the lyrics. The song consists of Everlast’s deep, dark voice and use of often graphic words. This song is consistent with the artist’s usual style and combines elements of hip-hop and blues. The sound of the acoustic guitar and the steady beat of the drum highlight the story being told instead of drowning it out, like many songs do. The edgy style of the song lends itself to the message being sent.
The hip-hop genre has set standards and norms for rap throughout its development. Eminem’s “The Way I Am” and Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” are examples of well-known rap songs written by authentic rappers. These songs conform to the conventions set for rap with their structure and literary devices and deviate from the conventions with their approach toward establishing their credibility in an original and effective manner.
Back on April 6, 1942, when the small dutch freighter ship called the S.S. Hato was torpedo, two people a man a boy (Man: Timothy; Boy: Phillip Enright)
You may know him from his Lisa Simpson haircut or his mouth full of 24-karat gold teeth; he is the 19-year-old rapper that is taking the music industry by storm. In the past, two years his music has gained national recognition and appealed to all types of fan bases. He is a force not to be reckoned with and his name is Kodak Black. He is the self-proclaimed “Project-Baby” from South Florida that is giving rapper a run for their money. Jon Caramanica, from the New York Times, described Black as “an unlikely savior for a hip-hop industry that has lately been preoccupied with melodic-minded Drake clones. Instead, he’s an old-fashioned literalist and represents the perennial power of grit even in a time that’s squeaky clean.” Kodak Black is an
To gaze into the lyrics of both Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur is like living in the ghettos of New York City where violence never stops. Both of these artists grew up seeing and living a life filled with violence. Gunshots and drive-byes, death and murder were a daily occurrence. Although the lyrics of both artists are simply telling their life stories and how hard it was to grow up in their “hoods” they contain vulgar, hateful, and sexual verses that send the wrong message to their listeners. Whether these listeners are teens or adults, white or black, they are continually sending notions of hatred and fear through their lyrics and actions. Ultimately,
INVERNESS – Last night, while sleeping at the castle of Macbeth, Inverness, the King of Scotland was assassinated in an attempt by his chamberlains to overthrow the monarch and lay claim to Scotland. Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor and Glamis discovered the chamberlains adjacent to the lifeless King and cut them down.
The first frequency that I noticed was the fact that the white man keeps saying the word nigga. He uses throughout his entire verse while saying he isn’t racist at the same time. As the verse continues he gets more and more racist until he drops the word nigger. He continues to use the word despite the fact how inappropriate and disrespectful it is just to get his point across. That is why this connects very much to pathos and it is a recurring word that creates an emotional response. Another frequency is the blatant racism. The white man is racist until the very end where they reach an understanding. This transitions into contrasts, the frequency of the racism with the name of the song begin “I'm Not Racist”. There is already a huge contrast or binary of the racist material of the song and the fact that the song is called “I’m Not Racist”. This binary continues when the white man is openly racist and then says that he isn't racist. This is obviously not
Funky, funny and fabulous on the keys: Detroit native Joseph "Amp" Fiddler brings you soul with a smile. The keyboardist, sound designer, singer, songwriter and record producer is in love with music since his early childhood. During his long career, he has been part of George Clinton’s band's Parliament and Funkadelic and played with the likes Jamiroquai, Moodymann, Prince, Theo Parrish or Was (Not Was) amongst others. In the hip-hop scene he is known as the man who introduced J Dilla to the Akai MPC sampling drum machine and to A Tribe Called Quest member Q-Tip.
The events that took place during G.O. weekend were fun, informative, and beneficial. The events that were most impactful for me were the faculty and department meetings and the informational skits. The faculty and departmental meetings stood out to me because it was very exciting to meet the faces of your major’s department before the first day of classes. The informational skits were impactful because it displayed real, scary issues that take place frequently on college campuses across the nation and provided ways to handle these situations.
The chorus is very forte and it has quick volume increases by a synthesizer sounding instrument that accents the downbeats in the chorus. The use of the softness of the piano harmony complements this hardness perfectly in his three verses as you can hear it lingering in the back. The use of his fading in and out with the symbolic piano sound uses dynamics very effectively – especially his opening, which starts by only a unique piano melody creating that feeling of mystery, nostalgia, and adrenaline. Timbre plays a vital role in the layering of this track. The three main instruments come in at different times and add its own unique place in the song contributing to the overall mood of the song. First, it’s the light high pitched piano, which is unusual in a rap song. Then the dark low pitched guitar comes in when he starts asking the question and it’s soon followed by the heavy sounding drums as he starts to rap. The interesting use of timbre gives an acoustic and classical feel versus the drums and synthesizer of hip hop giving the song its diversity and originality.
The hip-hop culture began in the streets of New York City during the 1970’s and has gone through tremendous changes up until now. Hip-Hop consists of four elements: rap, graffiti, break-dancing, and the disc jockey. In this paper, I intend to fully explain the evolution of rap music, from its infancy to the giant industry it is today.
In the song, Eminem’s anger and emotions is used as a premise in the music lyrics, which
Not long ago Eminem was in court for gun charges. He hit somebody over the head with a gun because he was hitting on his wife, Kim Mathers. Eminem was fined thousands of dollars, put on a good behaviour bond and monthly drug tests. So to stay out of trouble Eminem gathered a few of his unsigned rapper friends to create a rap group. This forming D12 a.k.a. Dirty Dozen. Eminem and D12 recently released a single called “S**t On You.” This song is about the critics continuously harassing Eminem about him and his lyrics. Eminem explains he is sick of it and doesn’t care who you are or who you know he will s**t on you.
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy boasted an amazing maximalist approach that boarded on a hip hop opera symphony with lyrics that were memorable and verses that can rank as the best hip hop verses of all time. It was an album filled with legendary moments that music fans will remember for ages, and moments Kanye fan boys will yell at his concerts. This reaction by hip hop fans for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was immediate. For Yeezus, it was different. Yeezus’ minimalistic approach threw fans and critics off due to the very left field and experimental approach he took for this album, both sonically and thematically. In spite of this, Yeezus still manages to hold up it’s quality, value, and impact in comparison to his preceding albums while becoming one of the most important hip hop albums of all time.
The heart reserves a special place for music. To many, music is more than a melody or a combination of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out emotions, memories, and shared vibes. Whether a person is an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific albums that laid a foundation for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums, Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album’s MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib. The underground hip-hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The album’s 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a masterpiece and a consistently good listen.
