We first did the GCT and analyzed the responses we got from the families. Second we talked with our mentor teacher, professors, principal and each other to propose our idea for our parent experience project. We sent a letter home detailing all necessary information the parents needed about the project. It included who we are, why we were contacting them, the date of the event, the time the event would occur, and when they could RSVP by. The next thing we did was break the class into five different groups. Since this was our first project working with this class, we felt that it would be important for us to pick the groups ourselves. We wanted the children to work with some people they would not usually work with and if we let them choose
In an informal discussion between myself and the class teacher we would determine our roles throughout the activities, what teaching styles will be used to match the needs of the individual children or groups. Discussing the individual children and preparing to provide additional support ensuing all needs are met, any barriers that may become apparent during the lesson can be overcome without fuss.
This could have been improved if there was an available room that I could of used to take the children participating in the activity into, were I could carry out the interaction without out distractions. Another way of improving this problem is I could have asked used my group interaction by involving the whole class as the group. This would have made all the children feel involved and no distraction would have been made as all the children would have been part of the group activity.
Probably one of the most important issues when it comes to Family/Community Partnership is trying to get the families/community involved in what we are doing. By engaging parents, it will help us to see what we are lacking and what we need to do in order to have our families fully engaged. I feel that if our families/communities are not engaged in our program then we need to reevaluate in order to encourage their participation. By reevaluating our program we can further access what we need to work on. If parents/communities feel that they are not valued as part of our team, they won’t engage in our program. Both the parents and the community play a big role in the education of our children. Parents are their first teachers and the communities have valuable resources for the children.
There's a lot of things that are enjoyable on Mrs. Chavez's English 1, period 2 class. For instance, SURF, writing poem, and more. Surf is when the students read their chosen book for 30 minutes and write some information about the book after reading it. In addition, the students recently wrote a poem called "Where I'm from," it was a very interesting poem and also fun to create. However, the most enjoyable part of the class is when the students get to pick their own group members. It was very appreciative that Mrs. Chavez let the students select who they wanted to work with because it's been only a few weeks since school started and some students might not be comfortable working with other students that they are not familiar with. Especially
Communication between teachers and the parents of students is essential for the growth and success of the student both inside and outside of the classroom. This communication is best achieved through parent conference opportunities. One way that this is achieved is through regular open house nights. This is where parents, and other members of the community, are invited to come to the school and talk to the teachers and other faculty at the school. Another conference opportunity presents itself in a scheduled appointment between the teacher and the parent. This will enable the parent to meet face-to-face with their child’s teacher during a time that is more convenient to them, as these appointments can occur before, during, and after school. Additionally, conferences can take place over the phone. This is a convenient way for both parties to communicate effectively in a way that works best for them.
as well as the educators in the centre. This will also help the children to build a
When they were doing the activity I was watching them how to do the activity. Sometimes I asked them some questions to make sure that they understood completely. I observed all pupils in my group loved to play with the colourful shapes and they separated them in the right circle. This activity was very simple but through that the pupils can recognise the all type of shapes. When we finished Miss B suggested each group should check other group work and they should find if there is any mistake. While my group were checking other groups work I was with them and supported them with explaining more.
Describe specific methods you would use to promote partnerships with families. About two weeks before school starts, I will send my students a letter in which I introduce myself and describe some activities we will share. I will share how important their contributions are and my desire to partner with them over the year. I will ask questions about the family’s expectations for their child, how they presently support their child with schoolwork, and how you and the school can assist them. I will encourage families to ask me questions about their child or how I can run my classroom that is suitable to their child needs. I will provide each parent with my personal contact information if they have any private concerns or issues questions.
In this class I was able to assist with everything the students did. I helped with craft time where the students would create a craft depending on what the lesson plan was for that week. I helped students utilize their fine motor skills by advocating the individual task of using a glue stick without help, coloring in the lines, and using safety scissors. Each task was focused on the child performing at the best of his or her ability and using praise to promote the task and the child 's ability to perform the task. During story time the students would sit in a circle and either Mrs. Abby or I would read to them while asking questions about the story or about something pertaining to the story. During music time, the students watched educational videos about letters, numbers, colors, and how to count. I saw that the videos kept their attention while also allowing them to dance and sing along. In this type of class setting I was able to contribute to the development and advancement of each child by pouring my knowledge and experience into their lives. Having such a small class was helpful in that I could focus on each child individually to ensure that the students were equally cared for and valued.
Have the teacher have at least one conversation with each child, have the child express themselves on the topic that is getting discussed.
Gorie, give her the problem set papers for those students. Call independent workers by row back to their table, hand each students a problem set worksheet.
My group is doing a Dinosaur theme for first graders. I decided to do a reading/writing assignment that has an art project towards the end. The student will be reading, “How do dinosaurs go to school” by Jane Token & Mark Teague. Once they finish reading the book they are going to illustrate/paint a dinosaur from the book and write what that dinosaur does in school. They will also reflect and write how they would feel in having that dinosaur with them as a classmate. The class that I have has 5 ESL students and 3 GT students. 2 of those GT students are ESL. So because they need a little extra help (especially since we are working on reading) I am going to group my ESL students into groups of 4 with other students, so if they need help with a word while reading, the other students in their group will help them out. All students will have a copy of the book. Students tend to learn better from their peers, so this will defiantly help out my ESL students. As for my GT students, I will have them leading the reading and discussion from the book. This will give them some responsibility and give them the opportunity to think as a leader. My ESL GT students are very capable of doing the same as the other GT student. I will be providing the supplies for my students so they will not be required to purchase or bring stuff. 50% of my students come from a low-socio economic home. My
For this activity, I decided to include the information I had so far from our summer parent involvement committee. During the school year, I am part of the parent involvement committee, which includes 6 teachers and our parent liaison. During the summer, we decided to meet in between our summer school schedule. There are only two teachers from the committee, myself and Mrs. Rivera. We also have our parent liaison. For our meetings, we decided to invite two of our school volunteers, Kevin and Mia. We also invited our LINC coordinator to our meeting, since he has worked with us during our previous family events.
Family Night was a success with 116 people in attendance, representing 35 unique preschools families, (enrollment is 220 students). Leading up to the event teachers were amazing partners in the planning of Family Night, providing support to me by replying to my questions, putting final details in place and reaching out to families to ensure we had a good turnout. Communication with the teachers was always positive and encouraging, which permitted me to carry out my Leadership Project with confidence.
* Try to create a sense of community where the students feel more comfortable in front of each other. One suggestion made was to have the students sit in a circle.
