An internship can also heighten the awareness of community issues, motivates to create opportunities, embrace new ideas, and give direction to positive change. A successful internship can provide valuable information in making decisions about the direction of future studies or employment. An internship is an opportunity to not only use and develop industry-related knowledge and skills, but also to enhance some of the skills that are transferable to any professional work setting. For some people, the internship is the first introduction to the world of work. No matter where the skills and understanding of professionalism lie, internship is a chance to develop them even further.

The main task of my internship was to gain more experience and knowledge of our respective field. Overall, the experience proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding. During this internship I used the skills that I learned from my Medical Assistant class and used them in the real world scenarios at the hospital. Also while I there I was exposed to new experiences. Such as performing Urine test on Drug and alcohol patients. For this procedure I had to stand in the restroom with the patient's and watch them urinate into a cup. Focusing more on marketing and business management I feel this internship program has helped me tremendously not only in that aspect, but also in meeting new people throughout my experience that can help me upon the completion of my degree.

This summer I worked as an Account Management Intern at Propel Marketing in Quincy, Massachusetts. Before this internship began, I had three learning objectives: to become more self-reliant, to become better with industry platforms like Salesforce and Adwords, and to learn what gets you promoted within a company and to adopt those skills and habits.

Activities and Experiences: There were many tasks performed while at this internship. The first task was learning how to do requests for information (RFIs) with the system that the company uses. When imputing the information into there are many different tabs and steps that you have to go trough. Once you input them into the system you then have to send them out to the appropriate people/company so that they can answer you request for information. Being able to learn the new system was easy since the past 3 years I have and to learn how to do things differently and adapt. The second task I preformed numerous times of the past four months was doing estimates. I did many takeoffs for many different buildings, and divisions while I was here at the company. The takeoffs that I preformed were challenging, but I was able to get them done because of the classes I have taken. When I think of an internship it is more than just a requirement to graduate, it is the start of my career. That is why when CONMED reached out to me, I saw it as more than an internship but as an opportunity to make a name for myself. CONMED is a global medical technology company that specializes in the development and sale of surgical and patient monitoring products and services that allow our physician customers to deliver high quality care and as a result, enhanced clinical outcomes for their patients. The position I was offered is in the Human Resources department, which involves working closely with secured data.

I believe that one of my greatest gifts or strengths is my understanding of interconnectedness. In other words, my belief that all living beings are connected to one another, therefore every action that we make will simultaneously produce a reaction. Because I understand that I am not an isolated sentient being, I understand that I have a duty to both act morally, and to use my time on earth to empower those who are suffering, because their situation affects me too. An understanding of interconnectedness is relevant because it creates a path towards mercy and truth, which are crucial components to resolving the current conflicts the world is facing.

This internship has been a valuable opportunity to gain skills that will help my future academic and professional careers. At the beginning of the semester we outlined a few goals that we wanted to achieve over the course of the internship, I believe that I have been successful at completing these goals. First, I was able to shadow a senior therapist. When doing so I spent the day seeing the types of things that my supervisor does. This was a very cool experience because I believe I was able to do my job better after shadowing her. Stefanie does a really good job of communicating with our clients effectively when they are feeling stressed or upset. She is able to use a variety of strategies to let them know that something they are doing might be hurtful or inappropriate and the children usually respond very well.

An hospital internship gave me an insight into the routine of doctors and the different specialties medicine incorporates. I had the opportunity to observe different procedures and to talk to both medical students and professionals about this career. I saw how the different departments work together to ensure the patients the best medical care and had the opportunity to see medicine from the viewpoints of both patients and health professionals.
