As a student, I idolize learning and the opportunities, excitement, and enjoyment it brings. In general, I wish to attend school for many years in order to learn as much about the world as possible and endeavor into numerous, different disciplines. However, my greatest passion comes from helping others stunted by their emotions or mentalities. As such, my journey into clinical psychology takes over as I aim to alleviate the all too real problems which arise from these conditions. I have always held an affinity for listening and advising those feeling hurt and believe emotional and mental problems as more severe than physical ailments as, oftentimes, they directly affect happiness and well-being. Any opportunities in which to talk about my …show more content…
Now, I am more than prepared and excited to attend a true university and dedicate myself to my schoolwork and school activities, in an effort to live up to my own hopes and expectations and, in the process, prepare myself for a satisfying and successful future. I have already achieved a perfect GPA in both my last semester of high school and first semester of college, even while taking all Advanced Placement classes my senior year. My primary goal is to continue this trend or, at the very least, come very close. I have also shown dedication and achievement in skipping a year of college, instead, coming in as a sophomore, all while working thirty hours a week and volunteering with my school’s theatre during productions. I regard myself as compassionate and caring, primarily, followed by dedicated and driven leader, and, finally, competent and problem-solving. Despite everything, I rarely feel overwhelmed and unable to achieve at work and my goals. Transferring to a university, I aim to continue such aspirations; however, my biggest downfall has always been to participate in an
During and immediately after my undergraduate course, I had the opportunity to work as a volunteer at the American Counseling Association and as a houseparent for an institution that houses mentally ill individuals. The association welcomes students and encourages them to offer voluntary services while they have an opportunity. My experience at the association, as a houseparent, and currently as a paraprofessional for mentally ill adults and children with behavioral problems provided me with a solid footing as well as the necessary resources to prepare for my career in counseling. The experiences gave me an opportunity to attend several conferences and workshops where I had the chance to meet and interact with other professional counselors. These opportunities opened me up and exposed me to numerous challenging situations that helped me to grow both personally and professionally. Interacting with more qualified and experienced people in the association, institution for the mentally ill, and agency that I currently work for has helped me to develop confidence in my work as I sought their assistance and guidance whenever I needed help. The experiences gained while working at the association was helpful to me as I could apply that knowledge and the skills learnt to help my church members. At my church, I was a youth leader and
My goal is to pursue a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My dream is to provide counsel and guidance to individuals, families, couples or groups of people; who are dealing with issues that affect them physically, emotionally and mentally. I would like help clients determine why they are experiencing their life challenges, develop goals and actions to resolve their issues. I would like to provide life changing advice to support & help clients overcome outstanding life situations, collaborate assessment and maintain treatment. Family and friends has consulted with me about their problems. I enjoy giving them advice that allows them to think about the decisions resolving the circumstance. With this I’m inspired to work in the
I am a student who is dedicated to academic extracurriculars. I have been a member of our National Honor Society since my sophomore year and on high honor roll since my freshman year. To achieve high honor roll, students must earn a GPA of 3.67-4.33. Throughout every quarter of my high school career, I have been able to maintain this status. In order to accomplish this, I have had to put in multiple hours of difficult work. It has not always been easy, but I am planning on it paying off! In tutoring my peers, I lead by example in dedication and hard work.
The institution I have attended for the last two years is a very focused yet disconnected box. This is understandable as lot of the students are older, more experienced, and already involved their field of choice moving towards a known objective with little time to focus elsewhere. However, as a younger student, this institution is a dead end. I have almost completed my associates degree and can not continue my education at Wayne County; at least not in an academic path that is desirable to me. I have participated in both social and academic programs such as the college's bowling team and SSS (Student Support Services). As well as becoming a member of my community college's chapter of Phi Theta Kapp.
After the completion of graduation, I intend to work with mental health patients within the correctional system. I understand that I need to further my education in order to be a licensed psychologist, so therefore I intend to do so at an accredited university. Mental health has been an intense interest of mine since a tragedy a few years ago. Depression stole my life, just like it steals thousands of lives every year. I had no idea what I was drowning in. Depression followed me like a shadow and consumed me like a tornado. It blinded me from being the perfectionist I once was. So much was expected from me, so much was assumed for me to be able to conquer. By outward appearance I had it all going for me; I had received a division one athletic
In high school my academic performance was good, but it could have been better. I didn’t utilize the resources my school provided me to their full potential. As I look back, I now realize that if I spent more time in the library and enrolled in after school tutor programs I would’ve done extremely well. If accepted into Fresno Pacific University I intend to enroll in tutor programs so I can ensure that I will pass every class. My goal throughout my years at FPU is to ensure that my GPA is 3.5 and better. The small class sizes offered at FPU will also be a huge advantage in my success throughout my school years. My decision to join the workforce right after high school benefited my bank account but my thirst for knowledge was acquitted. I am at a time in my life where I am financially stable and able to venture off to further pursue a higher education level. I believe the opportunities
After the second semester ended and I had completed all of the steps in my action measurement plan, all I had to do was wait for the results. As this semester has been coming to a close, none of the grades are official quite yet, but one thing is already unfortunately set in stone. My goal of improving my GPA most likely has not been met. After looking at all of the grades currently in blackboard, I was unable to enjoy some of the same successes I did last semester. But after evaluating myself, and current work efforts, I have improved in these areas. Although I did not achieve my main goal of raising my GPA, I reshuffled some strategies to set in place a system that will help me raise my GPA.
My course load is jammed pack full of rigorous classes that will help me better and further understand complex topics. When I enjoyed my biology and chemistry, I was pulled towards the AP Environmental Science course, despite never taking an environmental class before. I also enjoy math and liked my physics class freshman year, wishing me to continue in honors multivariable calculus and AP physics. I want to push myself further; I work hard and study harder. This is especially apparent in my AP exam scores, where I spent months preparing for my best score. I frequently stayed after school or went into class during lunch to make sure I fully understood concepts before tests, striving to be my best. Furthermore, I continue to want to expand my knowledge by engaging in scientific extracurricular activities. I give up my free time (a rare and valuable treasure in high school) to expand on my interests in, most specifically, math. I tutor others to help them understand the complexities of this great art. I also wish to expand my ideas in math club, where we tackle more complex problems and even discuss how math manifests itself in certain activities, like solving a Rubik’s cube. All of these classes, activities, and growing interests culminate into an ever-changing body that represents me, someone who constantly wants to learn more and grow, not only as a mathematician or scientist, but a person as
It is with great enthusiasm that I submit a letter of interest for the clinical therapist position at The Ohio State University Counseling and Consultation Service (CCS). As a previous psychology intern and a current post-internship clinical fellow at CCS, I am well acquainted with the rich, supportive, and interdisciplinary climate fostered in the agency. This, along with the opportunity to serve marginalized populations, and tailor group and outreach activities to the needs of students and the larger university community, makes CCS the ideal place to begin my professional career. I believe that the rigorous didactic and clinical training I have gained working specifically within college counseling centers over the last four and a half years has prepared me well to serve at a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment such as yours.
When I first started my college journey I initially majored in Biology. Not knowing what I wanted to do, I was influenced by my advisor to enter the biology field. After my third year, I decided not to pursue biology anymore, and that’s when I discovered my passion for the Psychology field. After receiving my undergrad in psychology, I knew that I wanted to get my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, but I had no idea of how broad this area is. This week assignment granted me the opportunity to interview someone who has been in this profession for 25 plus years who has worked in all sectors when it comes to mental health counseling. It allowed me to learn the pros and cons of this field and it even gave me more insight and clarity on exactly what I wanted to do. I found this week assignment to be very informative and I believe it is necessary for anyone that’s interesting in entering in this field. I am grateful for the knowledge and advice that I received during this week assignment.
At 17 years old I entered UCLA as a biology major. With my prior successful academic performance and younger age, I was overconfident and immature going into college. During my first 4 quarters my social pursuits smothered my academic ones; I lived a very unbalanced life, and my grades suffered. My second winter break was the turning point, and I realized that committing only 50% effort to academics would not be enough. I acknowledged my mistakes and became entirely determined to change my path from that point forward. I created a list titled “How to Succeed at UCLA,” which outlined the steps needed to regain balance and ensure academic success. I changed every aspect of my life from what I ate, to who I spent time with, to what time I went
Although my journey within the Clinical Mental Health program at the University of Scranton has come to an end, however, my journey to become a licensed professional counselor is still underway. As I tie up loose ends by handing in time sheets and remaining assignments, I find myself in a reflective peaceful space. As I look back over the years that I have spent within the program perfecting my craft, I can’t help but think that I am truly blessed. It is one thing to choose a career, but it is another to answer a calling. I say with great conviction, that I am blessed to be called to such a meaningful purpose. It is only by the grace of God that I can look back and see the person that I have matured into, not only personally but professionally. I remain humble and grateful for the opportunity, not only to reflect but, to have made it through this part of my journey. I started this program excited, yet, full of self-doubt and now in my last semester, I can gladly report that I am lesser of the two. Over the years, I have embraced challenges and endured self-doubt and it is through my internship that I have felt growth in solidifying my self-confidence. With this developed confidence I prepare to embrace the next chapter of my career with greater excitement and enthusiasm.
After graduating high school, my ambition is to attend Jackson State University to major in Physical Therapy. To major in Physical Therapy it is required to graduate with a baccalaureate degree in Biology, following that, 27 months of Physical Therapy school is required. While attending Jackson, I plan on playing in the world renowned marching band, also known as “The Sonic Boom of the South.” I also intend on pledging to a Greek Life organization and being an officer in the Student Government Organization. I've always believed that being involved in college is a must. It is also a way to accumulate money for the upcoming school years. Upon graduation, I aim to succeed in my new occupation as a Certified Physical Therapist and eventually owning
Overall, I believe I performed to a high standard throughout my undergraduate career. During my time at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, I was able to complete my undergraduate degree in eight semesters, including an occasional winter and summer term. In these eight semesters, I achieved a 4.0 twice, despite a heavy schedule. For several other semesters, I finished with a GPA greater than a 3.5, and never had a semester below a 3.0. Upon receiving my degree, I was awarded Cum Laude for graduating with a GPA of 3.55. I earned only two C’s in my undergraduate career, one of which was my first semester in college, where I was still learning how to be successful on a college level. I was on a scholarship throughout my undergraduate career, and it required me to keep my semester GPA above a 3.0. This scholarship not only allowed me to pursue higher education, but it also helped mold me to be a hard worker which led to my academic achievements. I feel a great part of my academic success is due to my work ethic and studying habits. I approached my undergraduate education as my main priority or job. I kept all my notes organized by class, in a color coded notebook filled with post it notes on upcoming exams or other important details. I spent countless hours and nights in the library of UMBC, making sure I stayed on top of my studies, and never fell behind with my coursework. My drive to do my best led me to visiting professors during office hours to ask questions and learn
My first week of school. My first week is going pretty good. The classes i have are chill and i know a couple people in each class. The teachers i have aren’t bad, they are all pretty cool. I am really tired coming to school early in the morning though. I’ve seen friends and i’ve seen people i don’t like but i don’t really care for the people i don’t like. I haven’t had any real problems with anyone at the moment, so i guess that's good. My expectations for the year is to do really good in school. My GPA goal for me is a 4.0 but at least a 3.5. I want to become a better student and basketball player. I want to be a better player because i am going to try out for Varsity.
