GPA Personal Statement

Being diagnosed with cancer has impacted my outlook on life in many different ways. At first I saw cancer as a burden on my life and only the negative attributes stood out on how it was going to change my life and the way I saw people around me, but now after being two years cancer free, I have gone to realize the positive aspects cancer has had on my life.

GPPA program provides me a guarantee admission for my future education in Nursing. As a GPPA member, I will keep my GPA above average during college years, and do my best to make a steady progress academically. Nurse anesthetist is my dream career, I would like to take the risks and complete any recommended courses to pursue my goals. becoming a member of GPPA program will offer me a considerable opportunity to complete my Bachelor's degree in Nursing and helps me achieve my goal with higher level educational content.

I am a rising sophomore majoring in mathematics at Lincoln University of PA. I decided to attend an HBCU because it’s the only place in the world where black excellence is truly highlighted. The news and media only displays the negativity within our community the never mention our accomplishments. At the beginning of my freshman year I transferred in 21 dual enrollment credits from the University of District of Columbia that I completed in high school.

My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.

Like most young boys I grew up idolizing sport heroes, racing kids on the playground, and playing sports outside. My teams were the Cowboys, the Astros, and later on in life the Aggies. Consequentially, if you didn’t love Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio than I didn’t really like you. Although most of these decisions were made based upon my brother’s sport interest, I learned to love them in my own way. After all, my brother was the one who I played basketball with, threw the football and baseball with, and eventually the one who inspired my love for A&M and the Aggies. For all my life I can remember wanting to play sports and wanting to watch sports, but around 7th grade when my brother moved off to A&M is when I really started getting the sports bug. I feel that my GPA is not indicative of my current academic strength. During the first two years at the University of Illinois, I struggled to adapt to a new education system and a different cultural environment. However, in the following years, I excelled within the classroom. Despite originally declaring myself as a General Management major, I pushed myself to take more data driven electives. As a result, I was able to graduate with an additional Business Process Management major.

In our community, giving back is vital. When I was a young kid, there were commercials on television demonstrating how professional athletes gave back to their/others communities. To this day, those commercials motivate me when I look for projects to partake in. As our community needs improvement, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. During the spring, our FFA Chapter donates time and energy for updates in our town.

I intend to use this scholarship to help pay for my tuition and books at the Southern Arizona University of Phoenix- Online. I would like to be considered for this scholarship because I have no financial help from my family. This means that I have to be able to pay for college on my own because of the fact that my father is no longer in my life, and my mom has my other siblings to take care of. My father is no longer in my life because he now lives in Mexico with his other family. I don’t have financial help from him because he has a wife and six other children. My mother would like to be able to help me, but she has two other children she’s taking care of by herself, and she has to prepare for my sister's graduation next year as well as mine this year. I plan to get a job after I graduate to help pay for the expenses of college, but since I am going online the expenses of college are going to be a lot less than if I were to go on campus, this is the main reason I am planning to go online, and to take a lot of the stress of being totally alone off myself because I will only be twenty minutes away from my family instead of an hour or two.

Robert Frost once wrote, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and I, I took the one less travelled by and that has made all the difference. As a young, educated, black man I have already chosen to take the road less travelled. Life is a journey where you stumble and fall, but I elected to not become a negative statistic. While in high school I decided to start my college education early in the pursuit of bettering my mind and proving to my ancestors that their plight is being well-respected.

Texas A&M is my home. I am 44 years old and I have been a full-time employee of Texas A&M University for almost 10 years. Although it has taken me a long time to get to the academic level that I am now at, I have never given up. Even though, they encouraged me every step of the way I was not guided very well academically by my parents. Neither of them attended college, so they were unable to provide advice. Now that I have gained the knowledge and know what I want, I will continue to work hard on my academic journey until it is complete.

Growing up in poverty meant always being in a pinch for money. This led me to my decision of seeking a job within the first month of my freshman year in high school. Thankfully, this decision led me to the precious self-taught skill of time management. I was able to build my skills until my sophomore year. I tried to take on more shifts at work than I could handle, in aspiration of saving up for a car, and consequently my grades began to slip. I acquired my first C in my favorite class: Chemistry. Being an aspiring student in the medical field, and a student who prides themselves on their grades, I was devastated. As a result, I soon reached the epiphany that one has to have priorities in life; I chose mine to be education. I discussed with my boss my situation and she gave me a set schedule of a doable 4 days a week. This allowed me to do my homework and studying in advance. This also permitted me to get enough sleep,

One of my favorite inspirational quotes by Albert Einstein states, "you should never give up on what you want to do; the person with the big dreams is more powerful than the one with all the facts. " The quote stated above is the reason I haven't given up. I'll continue to pursue my dreams despite low MCAT scores, being placed on the waiting list, and 3 rejection cycles. Graduating from high school with my Associate of Arts degree was a huge success until I realized that my GPA would hinder me in applying to medical school. Over the years, I went back to the community college for grade repair.

Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story

If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
