In gabbies August journal, She states how she isn’t confident enough with her body when it comes to wearing tight clothing such as dresses. Early in the book, Gabbie is trying to show how she feels towards wearing clothing that hugs and shows off her curves a little more compared to the clothes she normally wears on a daily basis. Moreover, this quote demonstrates how insecure she is about her body and how she is practically forced to wear a dress in order to see others happy. This label sums up the theme of stereotypes. For example, in a brief sentence this word portrayes a label placed through society itself to set an image in ones head based upon how a certain person should look or be in general. Gabbie compares herself to her friend Cindy
. In Jim and Antonia’s relationship, Jim learned more because the book is from Nick’s point of view. When Jim moves to Nebraska, he starts over beginning a whole new stage of his life. He also meets a group of immigrants and begins to fall into the negative stereotypes people have about immigrants. One of the immigrants is Antonia, and she helps him learn that immigrants are people too. Throughout the story, Jim comes to appreciate the will and spirit that make immigrants like Ántonia so successful. In the book, it says “ The girls I knew were always helping to pay for plows and reapers, brood-sows, or steers to fatten," This quote shows how Jim changed his point of view and learned to understand and appreciates immigrants hard work. “Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will.” This quote by Jawaharlal Nehru shows that even with limits, there is still free will. Free will is defined as “freedom of humans to make choices that are not determined by prior causes or by divine intervention” (Merriam-Webster) In both Brave New World and Gattaca there are limits. In some ways, both governments do give their people the freedom to make their own decisions. In what these two books share in common, they also differentiate a lot. The movie Gattaca presents more of a free will environment than Brave New World.
The connection between these two quotes is that they both involve Isabella acting selfish and deceitful toward Catherine, and they show how Catherine responds to the realities surrounding her. When Catherine makes plans with Miss Tilney Isabella tries to selfishly convince Catherine to cancel her plans due to her controlling and jealous nature, which to Catherine, “[appears] to her ungenerous and selfish, regardless of everything but her own gratification (67).” This quote is important because this is the first time Catherine really acknowledges the downfalls and incredibly selfish nature of her friend, and it also shows that Catherine is starting to see her world for what it is instead of skewing reality to fit the traits of one of the novels she has read. Although, Catherine starts to develop this skill while in Bath, she still has a hard time reading people and has the tendency to assume incorrectly about her peers.
C.S. Lewis once said, “Free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.” This is an essential issue that both Gattaca and Brave New World explore. Is free will worth it if it creates joy, goodness and love, even if it causes evil and unhappiness? Or is it better to eradicate it favor of an illusioned happiness? Gattaca limits, but does not abolish free will, which leads to emotions and tension in society, while Brave New World eradicates free will in order to create a stable society.
The quote above represents Jay Gatsby’s past before becoming who he is at that point of the story. The first sentence of the quote reveals information about Gatsby’s portrayal of himself before he becomes who he is. The phrase, “sprang from his Platonic conception of himself”, tells the readers that Gatsby does not have a love life before (Fitzgerald 104). It implies that Gatsby undergoes a transformation by breaking free from his previous self for the sake of love, possibly his love for Daisy. On the other hand, the second sentence reveals more information regarding Gatsby’s social standing prior to his social standing at this point of the story.
The novel ,The Great Gatsby, is mostly based around the past events of the life of Jay Gatsby. During the entire storyline up until his tragic death, Jay is chasing and yearning for his past. As I read, I found many symbols in the novel that can be related to the past Jay so desperately desires. The green light at the end of the dock, the extravagant parties thrown in hope, anything can be a symbol because Jay Gatsby lives for the past.
¨Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.¨ -Tom Paine. Tom Paine changed the world by influencing common sense. The book ¨To Kill A Mockingbird¨,US history, and my life all connect because there are moments when we want freedom but can not get it. My quote from Tom Paine relates to a character named Tom Robinson from the book ¨To Kill A Mockingbird¨ by Harper Lee.
The Great Gatsby By Fitzgerald is a novel with an occurring theme, this theme is that the past must stay in the past, and that no matter how badly one should like to relive it, no good outcome in presented when chasing something you can never catch; the past. Fitzgerald uses Gatsby to establish this theme, from the time they first meet to the time Gatsby told Nick his intentions of reuniting with Daisy.
On one hand, the two men may have something in common, but on the other hand, Tom displays the true horror of human beings who purposely allow innocent men to suffer the consequence of a murder they did not commit, yet the book counters his darkness with the light of Jay Gatsby’s genuine kindness towards people.
Fitzgerald characterizes Daisy as a stereotypical stay-at-home mother who is soft and submissive in her relationship with her wealthy husband. However, on further examination, Daisy also rebels in her own way, primarily within her marriage to Tom. From the start, it is apparent how Daisy’s marriage to Tom is not based on love, as Fitzgerald describes their relationship as “impersonal eyes in the absence of all desire,” (Fitzgerald 10) which shows how their relationship is comforting and convenient but not loving. Tom is described as a very powerful man with “a cruel body” (Fitzgerald 7) with “two shining arrogant eyes (that) had established dominance over his face,” (Fitzgerald 6). This description of Tom is of a self-absorbed man who overpowers

Integrity is the quality of having good moral principles and being strongly grounded in them. Campbell compromises his integrity several times in the novel. One of the most important terms, in establishing a state, is legitimacy - the recognition of the state by the international community. This fact may be the main reason why countries around the world found it necessary to justify their independence in their declaration of independence. This justification can be manifested in different forms; the first form could be found in the U.S declaration, of independence from the U.K by justifying its independence based on the natural rights given by God to all men, and on the violations made toward the colonies by the British King and his authorities. The second form as it appears in the South Carolina declaration, which also uses the violations explanation, is based on legal precedents from the U.S declaration.
