Basically Chinese parents regard sending their children abroad as a risk-free investment. Usually Chinese families spend all their money supporting their children. So they want their children go back to China with a degree which can help them get a job as soon as possible. Therefore Chinese parents think their children won’t benefit from taking a gap year. At the same time, most Chinese students study abroad in order to increase self-worth and foster personal competitiveness in employment, so taking a gap year is not something they would consider.

Most colleges in the U.K encourage students to take a gap year, simply because students then arrive a little more mature, a little more ready to study and a little more worldly. University like Oxford are very supportive about
