Over time, scientists have deliberated the possibility of another explanation of our existence, which has provoked traditional orthodox views. These new explanations were originally denied but over time science has been able to provide evidence that proved these theories. Galileo Galilei and Gan de were both prominent scientists who contributed to the modern day understanding of the universe. Influenced by hypothetical theories, scientists attempted to find evidence which proved or disproved present beliefs, to propose their theories to society. Gan de was born in China during the 4th Century BC and was the first known astronomer to contribute to compiling the star chart. While observing and researching astronomy, he accidently discovered the 2nd Satellite of Jupiter, which was later confirmed by Galileo 2000 years later. “It was very large and bright. It seemed that there was a small ‘red star’ attached to its side. This is called an alliance,” this is one of the only surviving quotes from Gan De himself. Galileo Galilei has been claimed to be ‘the father of modern science’ by Albert Einstein. He was born in the middle of the 16th Century in Italy. In 1604, his first known astronomical observation occurred when he discovered a Supernova. This event challenged Aristotle’s claim that ‘no change could ever take place in the heavens’. After finding evidence that proved traditional theories false, the basis of Galileo’s work became about observation and experimentation. Although Galileo disproved many traditional beliefs, he was restricted by the Catholic Church to not advocate his findings. Galileo was first to have the use of a telescope to observe celestial bodies, which helped him greatly in making new discoveries. He was able to not only study the motion of other planets, but was able to observe the satellites orbiting those planets. Galileo also discovered an enormous amount of stars by observing the Milky Way giving way to theorizing that there is more to our universe then what was previously thought. Galileo later found himself in trouble with the Catholic Church for publicly announcing his findings, which went against the Church’s held beliefs of the Earth’s place in our universe. Sadly, Galileo had to essentially denounce his findings and was forced to keep his discoveries private for the rest of his days.
