People all over the world know that Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. did great things in their life times. But which one was more effective during his time? The answer to this question is somewhat biased, usually depending on your race, geographical location, and if you or someone you know has directly experienced the effects of the actions of these men. An Indian would choose Mohandas Gandhi over Martin Luther King Jr. without even thinking about it. African Americans are going to choose Martin Luther King Jr. because he fought for their rights. Someone living in or near South Africa or India would most likely choose Mohandas Gandhi as the more effective person, whereas a person near
All through history governments and empires have been overthrown or defeated primarily by the violence of those who oppose them. This violence was usually successful however, there have been several situations, when violence failed, that protesters have had to turn to other methods. Non-violent protesting never seemed to be the right course of action until the ideology of Mohandas Gandhi spread and influenced successful protests across the world. Non-violent methods were successfully used, most notably, by Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Nelson Mandela.
Mahatma Gandhi use to say, “Be the change that you want to see in the world.” He changed what he wanted to in the world. He influenced people’s lives and tried his hardest to fight for the people being oppressed. Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were both good leaders. They both fought for the people in their country. In Eulogy for Mahatma Gandhi and Long Walk To Freedom for Nelson Mandela, the differences and similarities stood out for how they fought for rights. Mahatma Gandhi’s text was more persuasive. The text showed that he did not want to have other people’s lives treated poorly. It expressed how he felt, what he did, and how he affected people while he was doing it. Nelson Mandela’s text was not more persuasive because it talked more about what the people did and not what he did.
Peace movements have been prevalent throughout history and there exists many theories on how to effectively achieve amity amongst so much violence. Mahatma Gandhi, a predominate figure and supporter of non-violence as a means of peace, explains how the only way to achieve reconciliation is through individual suffering. Likewise, the Dalai Lama, who is a leader of Buddhists and a user of a nonviolent approach, believes that peace is achieved by a liberation of pain and suffering from the individual, a necessary choice to make in order to have genuine love and passion. Though both approaches to peace appear similar, there are some differences and cons that appear as well. Overall, it seems that to both of these figures, there is a high importance
Martin Luther King Jr and Mahatma Gandhi are both great exmples and role models of the nonviolent protest from there very different religious backgrounds. Although the two have different religious beliefs, but the fact that they have the same approach to the nonviolent factor that plays a big role in the world still to this day. Martin Luther King Jr. a black male southern Baptis preacher who was from Atlanta who was born in 1929, then years later assassinated on a hotel balcony in 1968 (fisher 367). Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born October 2, 1869, in Porbandar and was then later assassinated in 1948. But the inspiration and teachings from both Dr. king Jr. and Gandhi, their lives and spiritual teachings live on in the hearts of millions of people throughout the world today.
The topic I choose is to compare and contrast two historical figures, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. The topics I will cover include their origins and background, their achievements, the public opinion about them and my personal opinion after reading all their accomplishments.
When you hear the names Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., You think of the men of colored that paved the way for their respective races and nation. Gandhi with his homeland of India from British rule and MLK with the nation of America. Many figures have compared to two but no one has ever attempted to pit these two legends against each other and not in the form of a rap battle. Well, ERB can claim to be the first. With the melodic rhymes and catchy hook. Who exactly won this battle of civil greats, in my esteemed opinion, it would be the Mahatma. Gandhi case presentation and his flow was too beastly for MLK in this
Whether it be in history class or in your everyday life, when you hear the two names, Gandhi or Bin Laden, you would never think to associate the two. They are universally known for what they spent their lives doing. Whether it be for good or evil, their causes were acknowledged worldwide. People have very many distinct opinions about these two men, there doesn't seem to be much in between.
Gandhi and King were two inspirational men who tried their hardest to allow others to not have their freedom and justice ripped from them. There was a lot of stuff that they tried to do which cause bad stuff to happen to them for example King had gone to jail and Gandhi also. As you can see Gandhi and King weren’t justified in breaking the laws but they were trying to stop others from getting too much power to break the laws themselves.
Mr. Mandela and Dr. King are similar because they both speak of their countries in a good way. They're alike because they like to use repetition in their speeches. Most people would think that they're closely related because of their leadership, influence and motivation. Martin Luther king has respect for most people just like Mandela. The importance of this essay is to show you that most people are alike no matter where they were
When one thinks of Mahatma Gandhi and Osama bin Laden, they might think of two people who would be considered polar opposites. By just scratching the surface of the history of these two historical figures, it may appear that they are completely different from each other. But, digging deeper shows that Mahatma and Osama have more in common than anyone could have imagined. Both Gandhi and bin Laden inspired people to follow them in their movements against their opposition and were powerful enough to be noticed worldwide. Their early adult lives both contained incidents of rejection and failure that shaped them into the people that they became. However, many people believe these two were very contrasting in their methods of protest, one violent and the other peaceful. Despite popular belief, Gandhi and bin Laden are more alike than most people realize.
We all live in a civil society in a country where we have equal rights and everyone gets the same kind treatment, sounds great right, and it is hard to imagine having all those privileges taken away. But the world wasn't all cheery and great less than 100 years ago the people of India and South Africa were discriminated and unjustly treated by people who were not even native to their region but another one more northern. It sounds dreadful because it was dreadful, but in hardships there are always motivating people like Mahatma Gandhi who liberated India from British rule by motivating a generation and many to come, to stand up for injustices in their life or the life of others.Furthermore, it is people like Nelson Mandela, who worked hard and got jailed for his belief of equal rights for all people no matter the color of their skin.Even if they both are inspirational and had to sacrifice greatly for their respective nation. One person will always come on top of the rest and that position was intended for Mahatma Gandhi. Therefore, you can infer this literary analysis will confirm the thesis that Mahatma Gandhi was the greater civil right activist. For the author for Eulogy For Mahatma Gandhi clearly states, “that man with divine fire, changed us also--and such as we are, we have been molded by him during these years; and out of that divine fire many of us also took a small spark…”, This doesn't make him just a civil rights activist but an inspiration to many people.
David Thoreau and Mahatma Gandhi were both standing up to their government. Thoreau was doing so by not paying a poll tax, while Gandhi was doing so by trying to get his own salt from the oceans instead of needing to buy it from Britain. They were both against violence and did not want anyone to be hurt by their actions even tho they were both were going
Stalin was a man with different faces and capturing the real Stalin is to recognize that it is determined by the time and conditions of that period. Stalin believes in Marxism and communism, while Hitler began post-war life as an army to give the occasional talk about the dangers of Marxism and the Jews. Hitler’s life is more open as his views survived in writings and recorded conversations. Hitler’s main goal was to destroy anything that is non-German. Hitler and Stalin both ruled the country that they are not a citizen of and were beaten unmercifully by a tyrannical father and each form a close attachment to their moms. That leads reader to think that due to the absence of love from their fathers, psychologically they intend to be a strong
Although the statue was built decades ago, this reaction from the University of Ghana is expected as Africans take more of a stand in framing their own history.
