Everybody knows exactly who to look to in a crisis. In Tim Grover’s, “Relentless”, Grover speaks of being a cleaner or the most committed competitor striving for an unattainable level of perfection in their given profession. Grover talks about pressurized situations when everything is falling apart and it’s the cleaner, with unflappable confidence, who rises to the occasion to lead his peers into the winner’s circle with him. Gandi is a cleaner, a man so dedicated to what he believed in he was willing to risk his life, all for an unpromised reward. Gandhi had to have confidence to do what he did. The notion that anyone can lead has a speck of truth to it, however where it comes apart is not everyone is willing to sacrifice and have the confidence to lead masses of people with dreams and desires into a situation where the outcome is unknown. The essential of Gandhi is anthology of his life. It is separated into two parts. One as Gandhi the man and the other as the Mahatma meaning Great Soul. I was very much well interested in the readings of The Essential Gandhi. What I was most interested in was that he spoke with so much determination and compassion. His firm belief in nonviolence was presented very strongly. “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent. Gandhi believed strongly in non-violent civil disobedience, so he states that violence provides only temporary relief or satisfaction, but the pain it causes people and societies is much greater. There is so much violence in the world today and some believe you have to fight violence with violence but Gandhi was very successful with his method of not acting upon violence in such of as in a hatred way. He solely helped India become independent with his method of nonviolence. Before I read this story I knew very little details of him, but the main thing that always puzzled me, what gave Gandhi the courage to make such a difference in the world?

When he was born Great Britain was in control of India. He was born into a rich and wealthy family, he had left India to study law in London. Then after World War 1 had ended Gandhi has started a non-violent organization, his goal was to gain independence from Great Britain. He knew if he had tried to protest on the streets he would be sent to jail many times and would be beaten up harshly; however, he still done this knowing the consequences. When people in India had started to learn about the things that were happening they had started to agree with him and started to agree with his ideas. Then soon the whole world had known about the things that were happening in India. Martin Luther King Jr. was very influenced by Gandhi and he learned a lot from what he had done. About 60,000 people had joined his famous Salt March to allow India to make their own salt from

British rule was tough on many Indians. Gandhi, an Indian born lawyer, believed in freedom and peace for his people. He once experienced racism when he was kicked out of a train in Europe. He changed people’s point of view without breaking the law, which was tough for him. Gandhi made his nonviolent movement work through the use of determination, peaceful civil disobedience, and being a powerful leader.

Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi was a spiritual leader from India. Dr. King was inspired by Gandhi after hearing a delivery by Dr. Mordecai Johnson president of Howard University. His words about Gandhi inspired King to want to learn more about him. He purchased all the books he could find and grew more passionately about Gandhi’s beliefs. Gandhi believed in non-violence. Gandhi tested various methods of non-violence. He felt that having high standards and morals did not make one weak. Gandhi felt that good should prevail over evil.

Mahatma Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. He proposed a speech to all of his followers explaining what his resolution was to gain independence, without using violence. Mahatma Gandhi adopts a subtle and affirmative tone while revealing that non violence and the spreading of love is the way to approach this movement for independence. He also portrays his outline for the movement by appealing to the audience's emotions.

On August 8, 1942 in Bombay, India, Gandhi gave a speech to many individuals in order to call for a peaceful, yet determined, resistance for the independance of India. Gandhi is speaking to influence the people of India to stand up and declare their independence from Great Britain. The idea of a peaceful protest is a main point of Gandhi’s speech. Gandhi was a very influential orator. A major aspect of Gandhi’s speech is the use of ethos and pathos. Although ethos and pathos are very apparent, a lot of his speech is driven by the effective use of logos.

He had a mission to fight the “deep disease of color prejudice”. This was aimed at India’s discrimination, among others. Gandhi was driven to undertake his mission because he had witnessed horrible acts of discrimination from being told to take his turban off to being forcibly thrown off of a train. Gandhi was very successful in accomplishing his mission, as he achieved worldwide recognition for his peaceful methods, and became a “beacon of hope for the oppressed and marginalized people around the world.” The peaceful activist eventually was assassinated by a Muslim extremist, but left a worldwide legacy and even influenced Martin Luther King Jr.’s peaceful

So he decided to become a lawyer and go to a prestigious British law school. Later in life when he is traveling on a train in 1900 in South Africa, he is discriminated against because he is black. This is an eye opening moment for Gandhi because he has never experienced racism first hand before. He considered himself to be a well-respected and educated man but this does not matter one bit to the officers. All they see is that he is black and s they throw him out of first class. He then realizes the power of the British and decides that he is going to resist this racism but not in a violent way. This is very pivotal because it has never been done before. Gandhi was the first person to figure out that this way of action would actually work because of something called hard power and soft power. Hard power is force and physical harm to make people do what you want and soft power is just the opposite. When one of the powers is lessened the other becomes greater. Understanding this principal is the reason that Gandhi’s way of fighting worked and he ended up winning in the

Aroused by the massacre of Amritsar in 1919, Gandhi devoted his life to gaining India’s independence from Great Britain. As the dominant figure used his persuasive philosophy of non-violent confrontation, he inspired political activists with many persuasions throughout the world (Andrews 23). Not only was Mahatma Gandhi a great peacemaker, but also his work to achieve freedom and equality for all people was greatly acknowledged. Gandhi’s unconventional style of leadership gained him the love of a country and eventually enabled him to lead the independence movement in India.

There were many way causes which led Gandhi to become a leader this is one of them. Gandhi wanted to get rid the British out of the way, without using violence at all. An example of this was when he brought all of the reporters, to India and tried to burn the passbooks.

Once again, he wanted to show to his friends, comrades and all India that they needed to free there self from the cast segregation, and have a respect for all humans at the same time they were searching from freedom. He taught them that no job or task, therefore man was less important that another, and dignity is not related to money or status.

He succeeded at changing laws by developing his people and by setting the example for them to follow. He gave the villagers a direction in which to go and demonstrated how to get that way but then let them do it on their own in order to sustain the positive change. By educating the people about morals and values, Gandhi brought his followers up to be leaders themselves. By living with the people, Gandhi was able to discuss his morals and values and created a reason for them to thrive and do well. He created a sense of pride for their heritage and gave them a meaning for existence. With all of Gandhi’s actions, his transformational and servant leadership methods brought about radical social change and India was ultimately freed from British
