As developing nations become more independent, it is perceived crime rate would be decreasing as well. However, gang-related violence has increased as developing countries improve economically and become an established nation. A plethora of evidence exemplifies that the law enforcement system corruption has increased to gain influence and power. Thus, the paradigm of gang violence and crime has become prevalent over the decade of economic growth. To minimize the threat of organized gang crime among developing nations, governmental agencies must increase law enforcement and reduce internal corruption.
Weak law enforcement is admittedly a cause of the growth of gang crime amongst developing crime. Police often participate in barbaric acts such as “fired tear gas at and arrested protesters” (Torres 1). In addition, Venezuela “[police are] dismissed from a job that pays less than $1.75” ( Kohut). Thus, this propels these law enforcement members to become dominated by gangs because they have no governmental protection. Police are prone to gang dominance and often carry inside jobs for them, resulting in an increase in crime. According to report established by the United States Department of State, “...the government reported 8,813 killings committed by police, which it classified as ‘resistance to authority’. Of those cases, 97 percent were dismissed or remained pending with no action taken by the Public Ministry” (Kerry). As a result, it is a compliment to the weak
In todays United States we have a huge problem affecting society, gangs and the violence that follows them wherever they go. These days’ gangs aren’t just compiled of grown adults, they often lure in young teens to do dirty work and to add numbers to their turf. Despite laws aimed straight at these gangs they still defy the law and wreak havoc upon the territory that they claim. The members in the gang have a gang first mentality and will do everything possible to provide for and protect their fellow members. They will very rarely snitch on their own to help put a stop to some of the meaningless crimes committed by these savages.
In low income areas and large cities, gang violence is a major problem. Gang violence in Chicago is reaching alarming proportions. Day by day they are increasing rapidly. None of the solutions work effectively to eliminate gangs. However police departments and other government officials are trying their best to provide the same security as other areas in chicago. Thousands of innocent people are dying each year from these ill mannered thugs. In today’s societies gang activity is everywhere, whether it includes violence, drugs, death or any illegal activity. There are several aspects which are causing these violent activities. In past years the police department and the mayor designed different strategies to stop this violence. From my perspective better education and scholarships are the only way to reduce gangs and other illegal activities.
Gang crime is one of the most intriguing social phenomena’s across the world, as defining the deviancy has been difficult due to a broad range of definitions (Wood & Alleyne, 2010, pg. 101). One definition is given by David Curry and
Gangs and Organized Crime in the United States is on the rise. With the increase in turf wars, position and the financial gains, gang wars and Organized Crime are linked together in many ways. Within this paper, I will show how they are all tied together in. The M-13’s are the largest reported gang controlling large areas of our states. However, the largest area to which the MS-13’s control is within our own capital, Washington D.C. Their leaders rule all the gangs from inside El Salvador. I will discuss other gangs, and their ties into Organized Crime.
The third reason to consider street gangs as terrorist organizations is because gangs minimize the quality of life of any country. Two important characteristics define quality of life: psychical and psychological. An example of diminishing of these aspects is the country of Guatemala. For the past 10 years, street gangs in Guatemala have been on the rise. According to Power Blogger, the street gangs have power of corruption over the police forces and the government, paying them large amounts of money to be permitted to do whatever they want. The blog also states that this type of political corruption is what keeps Guatemala moving on economically. Some people believe there are corrupted police members who ask them for money instead of putting them in jail. The reality is that if no one can stop the corruption, they might end up governing the country soon. For example in Guatemala schools, little kids learn how to cheat, they don’t want to study anymore, and they prefer to cheat copying their tests or paying someone to do so. The Ministry of Governance estimates that there are currently 175,000 street gang members
Crime this year has exponentially increased all around the world. From the Middle East all the way to some of the big cities in the U.S. Fresh data from the FBI show that U.S murder rates have increased by 10 percent since 2015 compared to the previous year.
Criminology is a complex subject chock-full of theories that attempt to explain crime and criminal behavior. Each base theory has several branches of theory which expand upon and compliment their predecessors. Even some of the sub-theories have branches of theories.
The neighborhood is a basically a graveyard of American dreams. Like everyone else in America, Smiley values individualism, achievement, money, and family unity highly. However he is in a hostile society where his rough background is rejected and regarded as a stigma. He does not have education or an escape from his neighborhood where people are under a great strain. The reason
If gang Violence continues the black culture will stay in a negative state and never progress. Gang violence within the black community should end because it will result to peace and positivity within the community.
First, people are leaving because of bad living conditions. Gang violence is one of the many reasons why children are leaving. In the blue article, paragraph 3 quoting from the article, “we hid in destroyed buildings.” Gang violence must be so bad that people have to leave their homes to get away from gangs. They could also be leaving their countries because of other people could be trying to hurt them of their families. In the red article, paragraph 7 people are having to find a way to protect their family by leaving their house. The living conditions are also bad because they are not getting a good education. In the pink article paragraph 23 ‘I only completed second grade, it makes
Gang and gang violence has always been an ongoing problem within the country. Street gangs have evolved into some of the most notorious group associated with murders and killings that law enforcement agencies have encountered. Gang violence has become one of the most serious crime problem happening in the country that involves physical assaults, drive-by shootings, homicides, robberies, prostitutions, and home-invasion along with a long list of criminal activities. It had occurred and multiplied so fast in which it reach an all-time high epidemic of young gang people killed on the streets or entering into the juvenile and prison system throughout the country. Such death occurs on a daily basis especially in the inner cities that are
The sociological analysis of gang membership explores the different types of effects that arise due to criminal involvement. Because of the social conflicts that are associated with gang membership, this paper will explore the different theories of social learning and both personal and control issues that relate to the recent surge in crime across Chicago. As we open the doors of a crime ridden society, the truth begins to unfold. It isn’t just the thought of helping, it is the action that remains the barrier between living a life of crime or a life that carries hope.
The city of Toledo had a great deal of homicides this year. These homicides are results from shootings in our neighborhoods. These murders are very drastic in our city because of how small it is. Families are losing close friends and family members. People believe that gangs and things that are involved in gang activities are the problem. I agree with that because majority of gangs promote violence. Instead of promoting negative things in our community like drugs, ighting, and shooting at others. The same energy can be put to use elsewhere for a positive cause. I believe succesful people from our town that grew in the same neighborhoods should give motivational speeches. If another perspective is given to the community, they will have a chance
Turning on the news when you get home, and if it’s not the weather or traffic on, there is a strong chance, it's a news report about another crime committed in America. Violence and crime are way too common in today’s society. In my opinion, I believe gun control, mental disorders, and how we are brought up are just some of the reasons we have so much violence and crime.
In Trinidad and Tobago we are presently faced with an alarming number of acts of violence and crime. Whatever the precise cause of the problem, the harsh consequences are that as a nation we are losing our young people, particularly to a life of crime and violence because most of our crime are being carried out by young peoples particularly males. In the fight against the increase in acts of crime and violence in Trinidad and Tobago we as a nation must take the initiative to address the issues of globalization, family diversity, education and the challenging socialization situation of our society today.
