Youth violence is a problem among young teens because it causes a division, which unfortunately result into gangs. Moreover in the past, gang violence results into youth crimes such as robbery, and drug sales. In this new generation, the youth resort in selling marijuana and heroin, even more than crack cocaine now, this means where the drugs are is where the gangs are, also the weapons to protect to their territory. While writing his article Michael Blanding quotes a young man of 16 years of old named Sharodeny Finch, who said, “People get tired of wearing the same damn jeans”. This young man was referring to the fact that he gets tired of the gangs, and tries to do the right thing by finding an actual job. But when he got turned down his response was, “ You try to do the right thing, find a job to earn money, and you can't. You got a block right here, you know what I'm saying?” Basically Finch is explaining that, sometimes young people will try to escape the gang life, but when they try and do not get what they intended for, they go back to the gangs. This overall shows in order for the youth not to resort back to the gangs, they have to be dealt with in the proper format. Gang violence does not have broaders, however in the urban areas of Boston it tends to receive the most attention. This problem causes emotional stress, group tensions in communities, and many other troubles. This issue tends to thrive in communities that already have drug addictions, and low property rates. Moreover, gang violence influences these other issues to worsen over time. Therefore, youth violence should be a priority to resolve for it causes and affects many other issues in Boston.
No parent wants to see their child becomes gang that uses weapon, hurts someone, or goes to prison. Gang violence affects children, their families, and their community. In 1980s, African American gangs in Los Angeles became drug dealers, specifically cocaine, as a means of earnings. High rates of unemployment in African American community in Los Angeles forced young people to turn on drugs, and large number of youth became drug dealers to gain economic security. Main problem was drug availability and its huge profit to be made in the drug dealing. Political groups such as The Black Panther Party emerged to deal with racism and police brutality in Los Angeles because of white officers involved abusing African American citizens. Many also blame racism, injustice, and the War on Drugs was the causes for long imprisonments for non-violent drug offenders. A massive imprisonment policy of African Americans, led to huge racial inequality in the criminal justice system by excluding jobs, education, housing, and voting after their released. Injustice, racism, unemployment, drugs, gangs and gang crime were primary problems that African American community in Los Angeles experienced in 1980s.
I have observed that individuals and communities, and institutions think that poverty, gang violence and child abuse is what represent who you are and where you belong. Going through poverty, gang violence and child abuse would lead individuals in the wrong direction in life. When an individual or a communities see a gang member or someone they don’t care about that person because they say once you’re in the hole it hard to come back out. I just think it wrong for individuals and communities to judge people the way they do. People are the way they for a reason. Everybody has a kind heart. They made not seem like they do but they do. Their mostly likely that because there not given love or support. Like in the story said they in need of attention.
Living in Madera for 18 years, I came to respect law enforcement and all they have done to help better our community. The specific branch I respect the most is the gang task force. The officers of the gang task force have cleaned up the city of Madera and helped change many kids to avoid a life of crime. They have to do so much but yet, when I turn on the t.v. Or computer to dive in deeper about the gang task force line of work, most of what there is to find are authors, newscasters, and the general public bashing them along with the rest of law enforcement. It is basic human nature to stereotype and group things together. The gang task to no exception. The gang task officers are viewed by many as racist, profiling, and lying
[ACT: sounds of gunshots] First a warning, then a deadly shooting. A gang-related attack has taken place in Los Angeles. Gabriella Rasso has more on the shooting.
Chicago, a city rich in history, Arts, and Architecture. Although, all this rich and unquenchable immensity, there lies a much darker and glooming area of the city that has been brought to the light within the last eighteen months. The city of Chicago is divided into four quadrants, north, south, east, and west. Out of these four quadrants two stand out the most, the south, and the west. These areas are known to have produced the most violent crimes in the city and within the state.
Criminology is a complex subject chock-full of theories that attempt to explain crime and criminal behavior. Each base theory has several branches of theory which expand upon and compliment their predecessors. Even some of the sub-theories have branches of theories.
Dealing with bullies and gangs would be a hard proportion of dealing with gang members that is around that are in the area that they live in. Those things are dealt with the people that has not have had proper things in their community but when they did not get it they did violet things to get what they wanted for themselves or an individual. Some gangs could be started in a community or at a school. They get started cause of the things that is happening around them and to see that other people are getting bullied so they join gangs to be protected by their gang members. This brings back up my theories with differential opportunity theory and strain theory. Gang violence that is done in a community is dealing with other gangs wanting to have control over that part of the community, and how that gets started is they both are trying to do the same thing in a neighborhood that they are in.
The North Carolina Governor’s crime commission states that there are 1,446 gangs across the state with a total of 19,000 members. The average age of gang membership is 15 years old (Our Initiatives-Gang Prevention). In the 1980’s national gangs began to shift from just the bad street type local criminals to taking on public arrangements involved with drug trafficking and other illegal activities. As there power and membership increased gangs were being recognized in locations outside of their regular neighborhood (SKEP). Research indicates because of the increasing number of teens joining in gangs, by 2012 there could be more than 41,300 gang members in North Carolina (Our Initiatives-Gang Prevention). Street gangs are affecting
Socioeconomic status (SES): Someone with a low-level education, low-income, and demanding occupation will most likely live in a neighborhood with high gang and drug activity. Immigrants generally have a low educational status. Therefore, a low socioeconomic status is directly related with low-income, dangerous communities.
With the looming threat of global warming, overpopulation, and world war III we do not often find ourselves in a position to change the world around us. But what do we do when the situation presents itself? What is our response to injustice? Sometimes nothing. In first world countries it is easy to discuss an issue without taking action because people often feel too minimal to make an impact. However, history shows some of the largest social and political movements were sparked by the actions of a single individual with the audacity to stand up. The truth is power in the hands of an individual has the magnitude to create equal amounts of good as it does bad, but the power for change does not only lie in the hands of powerful, it can be found in the hearts of any individual, no matter their status or origin.
“Humans of New York” made me realize through stories of struggle and triumph that we are all connected in this game we call life. So respect and help each other out. It seems to be a simple idea, but as I read through the news from the recent debate, or browse the comment section of the latest YouTube sensation, I see words of anguish, bigotry and hatred. We are not against each other in a democracy and our opinions should certainly not be suppressed. Our country as it stands today seems to be one of partisan beliefs with no real compromise or understanding, and I believe that very attitude has been increasingly relevant in our news and in our social lives causing a great disarray of problems. Problems of which may all be solved by standing back and looking at the bigger picture. This issue is important to me because until humanity learns once again to stand united and not divided I fear we will never reach goals that need to be achieved. It is as simple as this; we’re all human. We all have goals and we all have
A community or social issue in the town that I currentlylive in, would be the gang violence. Almost every other day I hear news of crime, death, violence, or burgarly in my neighborhood. Sometimes, I'm afraid to go outside, or stay home alone. One of the approache my community could use to addressing this problem would be to us consciousness raising, we should come together and raise consciousness to our community. We need to build realtionships with another, and bring the community together, and not against each other. We need to try to have converstions, with our youth,, and try to see why are they acting so violent.
Street gangs are corrupting streets and neighborhoods all over America and even around the world. They are tempting for teenagers because they are an easy way to get money and reputation. There are several differences between Vietnamese and American gangsters. First, the difference between Vietnamese and American gangs is that Vietnamese gangs rob only their own people while American gangs rob everybody. Specifically, Vietnamese gangs rob their own people because they know for a fact that their own people do not trust the police in general. Back in Vietnam the police are corrupt and untrustworthy, so many citizens of Vietnam are scared of the police. Next, Vietnamese gangs do not kill people while American gangs murder someone who will stop
The first and most important step is to become aware of gangs, gang members, and their activities. Individuals armed with this basic knowledge are better able to avoid becoming victims of a gang attack. To prevent young teens to stay off the streets and to show them that you will die being in a gang it's dangerous.
