This comes with a moving bar which displays in red if there is an hour of inactivity. There are additional segments that light up every 15 minutes incase there the period of inactivity is continued. If one walks for a couple of minutes, this gets reset back. One can use it 24/7, and it is water resistant. It also has a battery life of more than a year and the display is easy to read as well. As it shows the time, one need not wear an additional watch. It learns the activity level of the user and accordingly assigns a personalized goal. It records the calories burnt by the user as well as the metabolic rate.

My computing innovation represented by my computational artifact is Fitbit. Fitbit was created in San Francisco, California by a group of inventors with knowledge in technology (1). Fitbit is a device that is worn, usually on the wrist, that collects data that includes the amount of calories you burn, steps climbed, distance traveled, etc (4). With the data that is collected there is an app that stores it. The Fitbit app keeps all of the data collected by the hardware and compiles it into graphs and charts so it is convenient to view the collected data (1).
The significance of Garmin Vivofit 3 is the combination of waterproof and disposable coin battery. Since users can wear the Vivofit 3 even in the shower and don’t need to take it off to charge, they can wear it all the time in one year, which means users will not miss out any activities (such as steps) or lose the band when they take it off. The reason why I think it’s significant is that I had a Fitbit band. It’s not waterproof, so I need to take it off every day before shower. Also, I need to take if off and recharge it every few days. The problem was, the Fitbit band is really difficult to snap on. I only used it for three months because it was so inconvenient.
