So you had a piece of your grill break, and it’s just not worth it to buy a new one? Or you want to install an exhaust on your car and don’t want to pay a shop? Or you’re looking for a new hobby that will give you a skill that so valuable, individuals make six figures a year doing it as a job? Then I suggest you continue reading this article. Obviously something interested you about MIG welding, or you wouldn’t have read this far. MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding has been around since World War Two. Later on, welders realized that non-inert gases such as carbon-dioxide, could be used as well. Today, it is considered to be GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), but is still very commonly referred to as MIG welding. The way a MIG welder works is electricity from your home powers the electrode, or wire, in the welder. The handle of the welder that the person welding holds has a trigger, which pushes the wire out of the nozzle and into the welding joint. There, the wire melts, along with the base metal, to form a molten pool of metal, which the welder manipulates to join metal together. Meanwhile, a tank filled with your choice of welding gas, pumps out the gas simultaneously with the wire, protecting the weld from the elements such as wind. There are a lot of …show more content…
One thing to remember is that with a MIG welder, you can only weld ferrous metals, or those that contain iron. For metal such as aluminum, you will require a TIG welder, which is similar, but requires a whole other article to itself. Now, before you get started, make sure you have all the essentials and safety gear. You’ll want welding gloves, a welder’s mask set to a shade of about 12, a long sleeved shirt, pants that aren’t frayed or have holes in them, and good leather boots or shoes. Also, your welder, along with the filled gas tank, and wire in the welder. Now plug in your welder, open your gas tank and set it to about 15 PSI, put on your gear, and let’s get

Explosion welding is unique, because it is the only kind of welding that can join any metal together into a single piece known as clad. Two metals are placed together with an explosive powder in between. When designated about 2 million pounds of downward force join the two pieces together. Originated in World War I and II, after strap metal became welded onto pieces armor.
Gas metal arc welding was originally made for weld materials such as aluminum, copper, brass, tin and lead. It was also used on steels, but shielding gases were highly expensive in the early 1900s limiting GMAW’s use on steel. It wasn’t till the mid 1900’s for GMAW to really take off. There were many different variations of arc-length, electrode size, and power supply units. Since the MIG welder is so versatile, there are many different types of things to make this piece of equipment.
I plan to learn more about this topic and the other types of welding so I can be ready for my career as a welder. It is important to know about all the different types of welding but knowing about this Shielded Metal Arc Welding will help me in the future become better at my welds. Having this knowledge will make my skills more marketable so that I can go anywhere I want to with this highly valued skill.
Being a welder is not just a job, it’s a life style dedicated to the many things they do. “Welders use hand held or remotely controlled equipment to join or cut metal parts. They also fill holes, indentations or seams in metal products” (BLS.Gov). Basically, welding is a job for an individual to cut metal to the size needed whether by hand or electronic equipment. After the metal is cut, it is properly welded where it needs to be based on what the blueprint says. “Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. In this process, heat is applied to metal pieces, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond.” (BLS.Gov) In other words, welding is just a way of putting metal together just like gluing paper.
Then I am going to talk about education and training for welding. If you want to be a welder you have to have a high school diploma and have good grades. Some places have on the job training where the person wants this one job and they train them on that one job or if you are not good at that they will find something that you can do. For example Lendals have on the job training. If the job you want does not have on the job training you can go to like SCC college and get welding training there. I would go to Scc milford and i would go for 2 years and every thing will cost

Welding is the process of joining pieces of metal or other parts by heating the surfaces to the point of melting using a blow torch, electric arc, or other means. This careers demand has skyrocketed in recent years. According to Tri-County Technical College, welding is ranked as one of the top ten fastest growing career fields in South Carolina by the US Department of Labor (“Welding Associate's Degree”). Welding is a very meticulous career, to be a welder you have to be focused, careful and you have to have an extensive knowledge of the field to be successful. Welding requires a variety of skill sets. If a person has a variety of skills and experience doors will open up for positions such as: shipbuilding, automotive repair, and construction.
Welding is a task that many farmers will have to do at some point. Often, this is to repair a damaged piece of equipment or metal fence. However, there are many individuals that may not be particularly experienced with doing this type of work. As a result, they may not understand the correct steps that they should take to keep their welding equipment in excellent condition. Luckily, these tips can help you to minimize the risk of your welding equipment experiencing malfunctions.
Welding is a worldwide trade that can be found everywhere whether it be Golden Gate Bridge or the Empire State Building. It is the process of joining two pieces of metal together by melting them. This major discovery dates back to ancient times and is still advancing. Welding was used in the middle ages, became increasingly popular through the eighteen and nineteen hundreds, and still continues developing.
GMAW( Gas Metal Arc Welding) is a process that produces high productivity.Kodi Welch indicates that “ GMAW offers high productivity; the ability to weld on thin and thick metals; to help reduce weld defects, and the process can be used in all positions” ( Page 1). GMAW is very productive, and thats why its used in many applications. It is also used to weld in all positions, you can weld on your knees, or standing up etc. Doityourself believes that“ MIG welding is simple to use and it is efficient. It requires attention to safety as well as attention to the process that makes the
I chose welding to study about for my career portfolio because I am currently enrolled in a welding class. I am very fond of it, and would like to consider it a career opportunity for myself. The pay for most welders is very good. Welding is the only way of joining two or more metals to make them conjoined. (Welding Basics. A. 2014. ) Almost everything people use in their daily lives has been welded. I want to continue to explore the fundamentals and specifics of welding as a career.
Nearly 2000 years ago welding was used to make little gold boxes for the wealthy people. Tools were used to weld pieces of metal together, but wasn’t until the 19th century that the welder we know today was made. Welding is a way of fusing two pieces of metal together to make it one piece. We still use welding a lot in today’s society and I don’t for see it ever stopping.
Usually bond two dissimilar metals are joined using this process of welding, especially to weld one metal over a base metal extending to large areas. Production of corrosion free sheets and plate stock for making processing equipment for different operations in the chemical industries and petroleum industries are the major applications. Explosion welding general requires no filling metals, and external agencies for production of heat are also not required. Diffusion does not occur during the processes. The metal parts are metallurgically bonded, in many cases it results in a mechanical interlocking that is occurred as locking formed by a rippled or wavy interfaces between the surface of metals. The process of welding one metal plate on another can be described with help of Figure
Welding is an operation in which two or more parts or metals (similar or dis-similar) are united by means of pressure in such a way that there is continuity in the nature of the material (metal) between these parts. A filler metal, whose melting temperature is of the same order as that of the parent material, may or may not be used.
