Gattaca is a movie about the future in which people genetically engineer their children to make them the best possible version of themselves. A child being made out of love is a thing of the past. In this day in age, any illness or flaw is removed before the child is brought into the world. The main character named Vincent, was conceived the old fashion way with no genetic modifications and was said to have heart problems and only live no more than thirty years. His brother Anton, who was genetically engineered, is set up for success. Since Vincent’s life is predetermined for him already with such bad health, jobs are hard to obtain and he can’t fulfill his dreams of going into space. This gives him the idea of taking on another man’s identity, which is Jerome Marrow, a “perfect” male who was in an accident that left him paralyzed. …show more content…

To be able to work at Gattaca you must be genetically perfect or close to it. When Vincent went on his interview to Gattaca as Jerome, they didn’t ask him any job related questions. All they wanted to do was examine his genetic code which was enough to get him the job as Jerome. In this time, a person is only based off of their genetic makeup instead of their qualifying attributes. It’s ironic that Vincent, who has beat the odds of his already decided life and is well educated on space travel, is said to be unqualified to work at Gattaca, while Jerome who is paralyzed is said to be perfect for the job because he has good genes.
