Gay Marriage Research Paper

Gay Marriage should be kept legal and gays should have access to adoption and reproductive technologies. Two people who love each other, regardless of gender, should be able to get married because all people are equal! The significance of my research will impact my final opinion and thoughts on this paper and will determine if I think the same of this issue. My goal is to teach about the hard fought battle for marriage equality, the history of gay couples and information/laws on gay adoption and reproductive technologies. I hope to change some people’s negative opinions on this issue by showing them how hard gays have fought to be equal because “love is love and love has no labels”. One being, Christians who are against such an act. The others are gay-activist groups that second and promote such a backwards movement. The Christian group primarily opposes gay marriage because of the simple fact that the Bible tells us that God condemns gay marriage and tells us that it should not be permitted. Gay marriage is an issue that has been widely debated in the recent years. It has been considered outlawed for centuries, but is rapidly gaining acceptance among the people. While many believe to have no problem to allowing marriage of homosexual couples, there is still a fraction that is strongly opposed to it. Some nations in the world have shut their doors to the idea of same sex relationships, let aside allowing them the right to marry. Some countries have legalized gay marriage federally, however certain states have not accepted that law. As of June 26, 2015, 19 out of 194 countries allow same-sex couples to marry nationwide (Farmer and Horowitz, 2015). Should gay marriage be legalized worldwide? Same sex marriage has been broadly debated in countless countries for a long time. It is a major issue because it deals with moral and human rights. The argument over the legalization of same sex marriages is rapidly becoming one of the most vigorously advocated reform subjects in recent law review. Being gay and loving someone is not illegal, but uniting that couple in a legal marriage is rejected by most of society in this country. Allowing same-sex marriages would change the basic definition of marriage. Marriage is an important commitment of a man and a woman who contribute to civilization. Therefore, the loss of contributions due to someone’s sexual orientation should not be rewarded with a privilege such as marriage. Same-sex marriages affect many factors such as children, the concept of marriage, and humanity. However, it is not a misdemeanor to love somebody of the same gender but it can rigorously damage many aspects of life.

Who are we to dictate who someone loves? The definition of love is the action that two people share. The definition does not say love only occurs between a man and a woman. The author, John Thavis, claims that homosexuals are just struggling to find themselves and that same-sex marriage disrupts the normal sexuality and fertility of a couple. Those that are oppose same sex marriage focus their reasoning on religious beliefs. Same sex couples do not want to be treated as second class citizens, they do not focus on what religion states; they just want to be treated as equal as heterosexuals when it comes to their right. Same sex couples believe if one is to bar any class of people from marrying whomever they choose, it then deprives them of their social institution; that many feel defines the most meaningful part of life, to marry someone one loves. Same sex couples believe that their relationships are no different than that of a heterosexual marriage. Same sex couples can have maintain a home together, provide an environment that children can thrive in and care for each other the same as heterosexual married couples do (Goldberg-Hiller, 2002).

Today many people have their own opinions and beliefs when it comes down to the topic of gay marriage. I personally feel that gay marriage should be legalized. Yes God said, “That marriage is to be between a man and a woman.” My question is, “What gives people the right to judge or tell another human-being who to love or how to love?” I personally feel it’s insulting to one’s integrity and people should be able to express their love how they see fit.

As the society changing, the history of marriage also changes. Marriage is legally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship, but do those two partners always have to be a man and a woman? Most people believe that homosexuals should be granted equal rights as heterosexual couples. Being as an important social issue, same-sex marriage has become a hot topic of public debates in the recent years. For over the past decade, public support for the same-sex marriage has quickly risen. The United States is one of over twenty countries that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed. I believe that same-sex marriage should be legalized in all countries for several reasons, such as being an issue of equal rights, separation of church and state, no negative effect on the heterosexual communities, increasing in child adoption, and decreasing divorce and suicide rates.
