GDLs are a more successful and effective way to teach adolescents to drive. According to the text, “Our current programs don’t teach young people to drive … They teach them how to pass a test.”. Using GDLs will allow practice on the roads for driving and better accuracy. GDLs allow teens to receive driving privileges slow and steady instead of all piled at once.GDLs will help drivers better rather than waiting until 18 to get a driver’s license.
The current programs that are supposed to teach people to drive are only teaching them to pass a driver’s test. When having a GDL, you can actually practice driving which will improve your skills. If you just take a test, you are only receiving a vast amount of information which will go through
To begin, students will have much more free time in their evenings if Drivers Ed was offered within school hours. Teenagers would be able to complete more homework, work longer shifts at their job, and be able to hang out with their friends more. Teens would have more learning opportunities such as: doing
Maturity and rationalization is not yet achieved or experienced by teenagers. In the era of technology there are several distractions for drivers of any age to maneuver. Parents can play an educational role by enrolling their teen into a driver’s educational program. Some states require students to complete a comprehensive graduated drivers licensing (GDL) program prior to receiving their license. The brain function is still developing in teenagers and may impede the quick thinking process necessary to become a responsible driver. For the safety and welfare of teenagers the age requirement in Arizona for a driver’s license should be increased from 16 to 18 years of age.
Children the age of fourteen should be able to get their permit. Fourteen years olds need to know the safety of driving. Fourteen year olds should have two years of experience of driving before being able to drive alone. They need to get used to being behind the wheel. They would also get used to the roads.
The are many things that back up the fact that the GDL program is better than teens waiting until they are 18 to drive. One thing is that it allows teen to get more experience at driving by making them have to get a certain amount of time driving
A tire lay torn on across the road, the smell of burning rubber and gasoline filling the air. A police car sits on the side of the road, the officer nearby shaking his head; there has been another crash with the casualties once again being two 16-year-olds.Many accidents occur from young and inexperienced drivers being on the road. 26 states have put systems in place to try and and stop these accidents, these systems are called graduated licenses. Graduated licenses vary in each state, but all GDLs have restrictions to them. Some people are for these GDLs, while others aren’t so sure they help at all.
According to the passage, the GDL program generally allows teens to earn driving privileges gradually or slowly. Example, GDLs allow 16-year-olds to drive only during certain daylight hours, which would be much safer than driving at night, and a better way than raising the driving age. When the teens gain more experience, they earn more privileges, which I think makes sense. According to the passage, opponents of GDLs say that the license is ineffective and needlessly complicate teens’ lives. Think about it, the system is very complicated, but it’s important. Since this system or program can save many lives, and even decrease teen car
Graduated licences go off the chart! This restricts teens to a certain amount of driving hours. Now some states are debating whether to get GDLS or keep it the same way it is. Teens having Graduated drivers licence will decrease the number of accidents.
In 2013, more than 2,500 teenagers died in the United States from motor vehicle crash injuries. Such injuries are by far the leading public health problem for young people 13-19 years old (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety [IIHS], 2014). Drivers are not the only ones at risk. Teenagers who are passengers in others vehicles make up a startling 87% of the fatality statistic. Lack of driving experience, disregard for traffic laws, and quick access to full driving privileges contribute to teen death. To reduce teen driving fatalities, successful completion of driver education classes provided by public and private schools should be mandatory for all teenagers prior to receiving their driving permit.
I think that Driver Ed courses really help teenagers. It helps them understand the rules of the road. It helps make inexperienced drivers be more comfortable on the road. Not only this benefits the students but it benefits other drivers, police officers, paramedics, and other people involved when an accident occurs. It also lets you know about our own car and the safety measures in it. Learning what the safest way to go around is very important. So many people die from car crashes each year. The number one cause of death in teens in car crashes. If we teach the safest ways to drive we can make it a safer way of transportation for everyone.
GDLs have made teen driving more safe for themselves and others. The GDL program has also made more restrictions such as: nighttime driving, amount of passengers allowed, and the restriction of cell phone use while driving. “The GDL systems in place across the country are largely credited for reducing the crash risk for novice drivers, and efforts to strengthen these systems are seen as an important step to further reductions in crashes, injuries, and fatalities.” (Clark, 3). The GDL system has had such a positive effect on teenage drivers, so there have been more restrictions added.
The driving age limit should be raised to 18 years of age and restricted to yearly road test up to age 21 and the same for those drivers after age 80, however, it should include the road test eye exam. However, in the State of New York, a learner’s permit is issued until age 18 and the individual must follow strict Graduated Driver License law (GDL). The concern is the unsupervised drivers that receive a driver’s license at the age of 18 years old. According to a research conducted, “A number of cases involved people
“Baseball is like driving, it's the one who gets home safely that counts.” said by Tommy Lasorda. As we accumulated all the photos of car accidents in the world, it would make the saddest of yearbooks: faces of seniors with unfilled plans of college, pictures of juniors who never made it to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and freshman who could never been kissed. Therefore driving education is compulsory for all drivers before they get their driving license. Driving education is a course of study, as for high-school students, teaches the techniques of driving a vehicle, along with basic vehicle maintenance, safety precautions, and traffic regulations and laws. In Malaysia, all drivers need to pass two tests to get their driving license which are rules and regulation test as well as driving test. However, in a sign of the times, people changed, culture changed, and society changed. Nowadays, many teenagers had got their driving license once they come to the limitation of age at sixteen or seventeen. Some of them have not being fully developed even in their personality and emotional behavior. This situation brings to the increase in road accidents and so forth. As a result, quality of driving education should be improved in order to reduce road accident and to produce quality drivers on roads.
In responding , one can say that teenagers always complain about the ¡§grown up¡¨ world and its rules. Teens find it rather hard to be part of the grown up worl until they have the licence to go out on their own. Basically, the whole concept of graduated licencing is not so complicated. There are only a few changes: 1) There must be a fully licensed driver beside you with at least four years of driving experience in the G1 level. 2) There is a year waiting period between the G1 level and G2 level. 3) New drivers may only drive in cities, not on highways, and only during daytime hours. Even though there is a 1 month waiting period between G1 level and G2 level, it can be shortened to 8 months by taking a driver¡¦s insurance training course. During this course, the driver will learn more about techniques on driving, and it will cost less when getting car insurance later on.
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults’ eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road.
In recent years, statistics show that over 5,000 teens per year are involved in fatal accidents, in the United States. Some of these accidents are as simple as lack of driving experience to quick access to full driving privileges at an early age, some of these collision are life change or result in death. To reduces numbers of fatalities, we most coach our youth to be safe driver. First step, as adult/parent(s) is let the child show "initiative in driving". This is important because the teen might not have an interest in driving, when you(as the parent/adult) thinking they should be learning to drive. Wait on the teen to show an interest in learning how to drive. I started teaching my little cousin who had lack of self confidence how to
