Gender Equality In The United States

Throughout decades, education inequality is still one of the most deliberate and controversial issues in the United States. Thus far, the privilege or right to receive education has not attained the level of equality throughout the nation. Poor districts obtain less educational funds while rich districts obtain more, which create an immense gap between the quality of schools in poor and rich areas. In other words, the education gap is the root of inequality in America. Inequality in education is linked to the major problems in the society. The need for studies to be done to find ways of overcoming these inequalities is very inevitable. The means of mitigating these inequalities are important for the entire world. This is something of great interest due to the fact that children need quality education which is a pillar for a guaranteed future. Generally speaking, the distinctions among races, genders, and classes in the society have caused the educational inequality in America.

I agree with Horace Mann, education is vital in society and determines how it functions. If certain groups of people do not receive equal education than others, then society will change and more poverty, unemployment, and more inequality will increase.

This is shown by the lack of literacy seen recently. Furthermore, society has convinced people that women are lesser than men, and that their education is less important. Not to mention that professors tend to award students with high grades so that they will continue to take their classes. This causes students to not feel the need to try in their studies, creating less informed citizens. Not only does this occur, but teachers in high school focus more on their pupils scoring well on standardized-tests than actually retaining information they are taught. As Albert Einstein once said “Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This means that not everybody is good at the same things, nor do their brains work the same way. Women had no rights in the 1800 hundreds. The hierarchy in the United States of America back then was rich white men, poor white men, white women, black men and black women. During those time women were uneducated and as a result had to take care of the house chores such as cleaning, cooking, going grocery shopping and lots more. Today women has the opportunity to become whomever they aspire to be, they are liberated and educated. As a result they are able to fill positions such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, and so much more.

Inequality, inequality is a strong word that comes to my mind when I think of problems going on in our world. This situation is happening all over the world and it's affecting many people including. This situation affects me for the following reasons which include gender diversity and racism.

Throughout the history of the world, discrimination in all forms has been a constant battle; whether its race, gender, religion, beliefs, appearance or anything else that makes one person different from another, it’s happening every day. One significant discrimination problem the world population is battling, takes place in the work place. Women, who are as equally trained and educated, and with the same experience as men are not getting equal pay, “The American Association of University Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns” (Coleman). This form of inequality dates back for centuries and stems from the common belief that since men provide for women and women take care of the home and children, men therefore are more efficient in the career chosen. This is also known as systemic discrimination. Now in modern times, the realization that man and woman can produce the same results, have the same education, and have the same capacity to accomplish the same overall tasks as men is becoming more popular, especially as the prevalent thought of women as not as valuable as men is constantly being proven to be incorrect.

There is supposed to be equal protection for everyone in the United States, but in reality, there isn’t. People who are minority and of color get targeted, because of their race, gender, and class, while wealthy white people are put on a pedal stool and hardly ever get in trouble by the law. In many case the wealthy are not arrested nor are they given a sentence for their wrongful doing, they are allowed to get away with murder (86). In the meantime, poor people are not given the same treatment and can be sentence to 15 years, 25 years, or life in prison for committing minor offense. Why does gender equality matter? Around the world the world there are some countries that have zero gender equality while others may have more gender equality. Although this may not seem like a big deal, there are many women who deserve more. As defined in the English Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is of or relating to, advocating the rights and equality of women. The battle for women to be equal to men have been a steady-going controversy since Women's suffrage. During the early 19th century women did not have the right to vote, women had to fight for the right to vote. Consequently, ratified in 1992, the 19th Amendment gives citizens of the United States the right to vote and it shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Without reservation, Feminists Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie uttered, “there are slightly more women in the world, then there are men, about 52% of the world's population is female.” History demonstrates that women have always worked industriously to be equivalent to men. As a result, the notion of women not being equal to men, needs be brought to a halt. The next generation of children need not be inculcated about gender, but rather educated to treat all humans in uniform. Unquestionably, some men still do not support feminism for the reason that pessimism has been correlated with it, however, women are taking over the world.

It will take more centuries for male and female equality in the United State. Longer and difficult for nations with serious traditions and religion. In some cultures, for a female to want that equality is a taboo or cultural law breaking. Toady at the rate females in developed nations are fighting for equality and holding powerful positions, there will come a time woman may have the opportunity of equal opportunities with their male counterparts. Also, the rate of development is rapid, males are educating themselves and finding ways to allow woman share their dormaine.
