Gender Equality Rough Draft
Personally we will not always find equality everywhere. This can include the work place. For as long as time men and women have not been treated fairly. I think that we can eventually make the wage gap nonexistent, and we can live in a world where we are all equal. I believe that we can eventually fix the wage gap but for now it is there. The wage gap is a gap between men and women's average pay. Right now the wage gap is women's eighty cents to the man's dollar.I do not understand why one gender is so much greater than another In the workplace. I don't even understand why one person would think they are better than another by judging their appearance, gender or anything by the looks or rumors of someone else. I believe that you need to meet someone before you judge them. I do not believe that everyone is born equal because some people are born rich and some are born poor. Some things may need to be like this including clothing, but having gender oriented toys and movies is laughable. I think that if we took the genders off of things we buy at the store that don't need to have genders. I think that soap is just soap and I will use it no matter what gender it is used for, and maybe many other people think that it is stupid also. I think that women should not be stereotyped for taking longer in the morning than men just because women looked a certain way and woman should be in skirts and men should wear pants but in reality if it were switched people might start to freak out . I think our appearance really doesn't matter at all and we freak out when something happens that is just a little bit not normal and anybody should be able to express themselves and people need to be more open minded to new
Finally, the pay gap is simply the obvious discrepancies between the pay of men and the pay of women, for the same job in many cases. All of these theories have explanations for the gap that seem logical.
In our constitution we are all equal, but why are we not paid equally? The gender wage gap movement will result in social change because it is bringing awareness to women in the workplace getting paid lower than her male counterpart. On the other hand, many other people may argue that the gap is not because of gender, it is because men work longer hours compared to women since they have children to take care of. I believe that this movement could improve by making people more aware of the through more examples such as the Women’s U.S.A. Soccer Team wanting more pay and equal pay.

The wage gap is the difference between the median earnings of women relative to median earnings of men. In this case, women earn a significant amount less than men. Although the wage gap has gotten smaller over the years, the wage gap still has a long way to go. Women deserve better than just minimum earnings. Full time, working women should obtain the best promotions and benefits. Women that work just as tough and have the equivalent qualifications as men do still earn less, and that is just unacceptable. The wage gap should be abolished on behalf of women of color and their struggle, equal pay is a global problem, equal pay benefits employers and workers, and the wage gap accumulates over time.
Gender wage gap is the one type of discrimination that has received the most outcry. Wage gap affects women of all races, especially African Americans and Hispanics. Your mother, your sister, niece, aunt, grandmother and your daughters are affected by this gap in pay. Gender wage gap affects everyone because it tell you that we all live in a society that judges someone's worth based on thier sex and not their ability and qualifications. Hispanics and Latinos are paid 55 cents to an average man’s dollar, an African American woman is paid 60 cents, a white woman 77 cents to every man’s dollar. This difference in pay due to gender seems like it would be an obsolete practice in the twenty-first century, but it is real and is affecting millions of women and households in the country. In 2014, women working full time in the United States were paid 79 percent on average of what men were being paid, which is a gap of approximately 21 percent. This means that in the United States, females earned 94 cents on average to every dollar earned by males. According to one study by the Department of Labor’s Chief Economist, a typical 25-year-old woman working full time would earn $5,000 less over the course of her working career than a typical 25-year old man working in the same career. The reason why this pay gap exists does expand into other factors such as education, experience, the work being performed, qualifications, age, and ethnicity which are taken into account. The studies being conducted on the pay gap has economists verifying that discrimination is the best overall explanation and factor of the difference in pay between males and females.

For many years, there has been a wage gap between the genders and their earnings. The wage gap, or pay gap, is the difference between a female’s overall earnings, to a male’s overall earnings. Pay gaps don’t only limit your earnings based on your gender, but as well as your race, age, and education. The gender pay gap affects women and their earnings to a great extent, leading to unfair pay. Women should be paid as equally as men because it would benefit motherhood financially, and it would benefit many women of color that have different educational experiences.
The Wage Gap is unfair and it needs to be fixed, women should have the same equal rights as men. Women can have the same job as men, work the same amount of hours and still not receive the same amount of pay which is simply wrong. As Claudia Goldin, a professor of economics at Harvard University who has spent years researching the gender gap states, “By comparing the 469 occupations in the US Census, she found that women disproportionately holding certain jobs only accounted for about 25% of the difference in earnings between men and women. Factors within each occupation overwhelmingly accounted for differences in pay.” In her findings she found out that only 25% of the jobs do not have equal pay because of the type of work women are doing. This means that even with men and women having the same jobs, that the women will still get paid less than the men do. Another Economists Francine Blau and Lawrence Kahn found, “Differences in occupation and industry explain about 49 percent of the wage gap, but 41 percent of the wage gap is not explained by differences in educational attainment, experience, demographic characteristics, job type, or union status” (Stevenson).This is just another statement backing up that the gender pay gap is not happening, just because women take lower paying jobs than men. It says that even if women do the exact same job as men, women still will get paid less than men do
While participating in the student led units, I was able to see how large the wage gap for different genders is. I expected, due to the gender hierarchy, that women would make less than men, however, I never expected the wage gap to be as large as it was. This issues has stuck with me since the student led units because this issue is bringing America down the wrong path. America is supposed to be the land of opportunity, not the land of oppression. Like we said in class, the wage gap is starting to close, however, it is not happening fast enough. I have first hand knowledge of the gender wage gap because of my family. My aunt has spent her entire career working for different pharmaceutical companies handling their FDA submission. When my aunt was applying for a new job, she was talking to one of her friends who was applying for the same job about what she was offered as a starting salary. I do not remember the exact numbers that either was offered, however, I do know that her offer was significantly less than his offer. My aunt decided to try and negotiate with the company because she knew the amount they offered her male friends. With a steadily increasing amount of women working at jobs, came steadily strong opinions about women’s work rights. Although many people are now bringing up a pay gap between genders, there is something being over looked that proves there isn’t a pay gap, but something else. The Gender Income Gap is a supposed payment gap between men and women, stating that to every man’s dollar a woman only gets payed seventy cents. Statements like theses can grab people’s attention and get them to believe this without much proof of it actually existing. Most people get there information about the gap from surveys over all women and men average pay, this is not a good representation of the topic because it doesn’t go into any detail of actual jobs and difference of pay. There are many other factors that going into the pay gap that would make it into something else not necessarily a pay gap. There are several solutions for this problem most of them aren’t necessarily for equality but for the gain of one sex at the cost of the rights of another. The one I will be talking about later doesn’t need government intervention and doesn’t need for one sex to do more. This solution will come from “changes in the labor market, especially how jobs are structured and remunerated to enhance temporal flexibility.”1
The wage gap continues to stretch farther and farther apart. A wage gap is the ratio difference between the top twenty and lower twenty percent of income levels. The United States is a leading example of a differentiating income levels. A recent study by Harvard students, showed the United States pay gap ratio from CEO’s to average workers is around 350:1. This is a ridiculous difference in pay, especially when there are millions of people underneath the poverty level. The differences in wages being described is solely targeting skill level and is not referring to any other factors like gender, race, social class, and etc. Society has been dealing with income inequality for thousands of years. Although, it is unfair for people to be paid unequally, but it is also the only way for the economy to run smoothly. It would be impossible for the United States to pay everyone equally because of time spent, work incentives, and executive positions.
