I still have not declared a major, but one major I am interested in is accounting. Accounting is the practice of recording and analyzing financial records and transactions to an organization, agency, or individual. Getting a job in the accounting field would be wise because it is a field that is high in demand and will continue to become bigger. Also different companies give you plenty of opportunities to move up from an entry level position to an executive position. Most assume with an accounting degree all you can be is an accountant. But with an accounting degree you could have various jobs including an auditor, budget analyst, financial manager, school teacher, insurance sales agent, real estate broker, and many others. Sometime certification within a specific field of accounting improves chances of receiving a job and getting clients. A example would be becoming a Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). CPAs are required to pass an exam and have certain requirements but being a CPA is not required to be an accountant. Being a CPA just helps when applying for jobs. Some believe your gender can also benefit you also while applying for jobs. In Robin Radtke’s article,The Effects of Gender and Setting on Accountants’ Ethically Sensitive Decisions, she explains research data that various researchers have found on how gender can affect accountants. “The gender socialization approach posits that women and men inherently possess differing values which distinctly affect their business attitudes and behaviors.
