The average woman in the United States makes approximately $82.90 for every dollar their male counterparts make. (Elsesser). While those 20 cents may seem inconsequential to you, they add up. Losing that much money all year can be the difference between someone living in poverty, and someone living a nice life. The gender pay gap is the cause of this problem. Around the world, women are losing money just because of what gender they are. The gender wage gap is a huge problem, that can only be solved by going to extreme measures, such as requiring people to release their employees wage gap and passing new laws.
Simultaneously, the gender pay gap has financial effects not just on the women, yet their families too. By and large, this gap effects hundreds of millions of women and their families, and lag them back hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout their life.
Today, the working industry has made substantial progress towards gender equality pay while adding numerous career opportunities for woman in the workforce. However, society still poses ethical concerns between women and men regarding gender pay gap and discrimination for the same job function that apparently still exist. To put it differently, women regrettably have struggled as they continue in trying to make headway in gaining the respect of the working-class industry since the mid-1900’s. In some cases, researchers state that women in the workforce will not get paid equally for the same job function because of discrimination of gender gap. According to one research study, “there is still a gender pay gap. Women continue to earn considerably less than men on average” (Blau & Kahn, 2007, p. 8). While men have the higher ground of work tenure there should be equal pay for women with the same qualifications; I will argue the concerns of gender gap pay while using the utilitarian theory, deontological theory and the objection of moral reasoning to prove the ethical theory.

The gender pay gap is a problem nationwide in the United States. It is a phenomenon that affects women of all education levels, ages, and races. Although it varies in a state-by-state basis, the pay gap is prevalent in all states (Miller, 2017). The issue is also occupation-wide, meaning that nearly every occupation will have a gender gap (Miller, 2017). Before 1880, women did not have as many rights as they do today in the United States of America. Women were not able to initiate divorce; they did not have custody over their children; they were not entitled to their own wages; they could not vote; etcetera. This movement was necessary to create a more just and fair society for Americans because women deserved to be treated as well as men were. These things were changed as a result of many suffragists who fought for women’s rights for years. Three women who devoted their lives to gaining equal rights for women were Susan B. Anthony, Lucy Stone, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Without these women among others, women in America would not be treated as they are today.
In the 21st Century the number of women enrolling in higher education institutions is surpassing the numbers of men enrolled. The graduation rates of women from high school and higher education are most often higher than for men. The number of women graduates from most professional occupations, including higher paying medicine, law and business, will exceed the number of men graduates in the near future. In numerous occupational areas with a majority of women graduates, salaries already surpass salaries in occupational areas with a majority of men graduates.

In this paper we have conducted research of the gender wage gap in Europe and the US. The aim of this paper was to analyze the gender wage in the US and European countries and describe the current situation regarding this issue as well as provide some evidence that gender wage gap exists in these countries.
In the beginning of the semester, during the first day of class we were asked what were some social problems that bothered us, interested us, or something we wanted to learn more about. The first thing I thought of was equal pay between men and women. With the ratification of the 19th amendment, women became legally equal to men. Then in 1963, the Equal Pay Act was passed yet. Yet today, the wage gap between men and women still exists. According to the White House’s official website, women working full time are only earning around 77% of what their male coworkers are earning. This problem is even worse with the factor of race involved. I feel as if this is an overlooked and forgotten issue. I don’t want to pay the same amount of tuition as a fellow male student, receive the same years of education, and end up having the same position as him making less money.
During the 1960s and 1970s, feminist protesters led a march through the streets of Virginia. Their goal was to decimate workplace inequality, such as increasing the type of jobs they were able to work in, and fighting wage inequality. Types of protests include the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) March. This feminist inspired protest occurred in the late 70’s. At the time, ERA was passed by congress in 1972. This amendment allowed women the same rights as men. “The Equal rights amendment had only a couple of years to be ratified by 38 states. However, a few states, like Illinois were quick to decline this amendment. This rash decision caught the attention of the National Organization for Women (NOW)” (Gibson 4). Modern corporate America continues to promote gender inequality by believing false accusations of feminine weakness, gender discrimination and male supremacy.
In our modern day and age we have overcome many social injustices between women and men. For example it is no longer indecorous for women to go to university and have a career of her own, women now have the liberty to leave the house by herself and women can now represent their country in sport. With everyday women are gaining new rights that is leading towards a society where men and women are equal. So why is it that with all of these accomplishments is it deemed unfeasible for us to outdo the inordinate matter of the pay wage gap?
