What does it take to be a man or a woman? Our sense organs alone do not determine whether we are men or women. Our gender includes a multifaceted combination of beliefs, behaviors, and characteristics. How do we act, behave, and talk like a man or a woman? Each one of us has a sex, a gender, and a gender identity that are all aspects of our sexuality. These aspects describe who we are, in different personalities and attributes but related. Society’s categories for what is masculine and feminine may not capture how we truly feel, how we behave, or how we define ourselves.

A study on the implicit and explicit occupational gender types, Sex Roles, “Occupational gender stereotypes are activated when men and women are considered to be more suited for certain occupations based on stereotyped characteristics and temperaments” (White and White 2006). Matheus represented the following examples, “a stereotypically feminine job would be associated with attributes such as nurturing, caring, and being sensitive to the needs of others and a stereotypically masculine job would be associated with attributes such as decisiveness, coldness and toughness” (Matheus 2010). Nowadays, women are usually seen in the workforce as secretaries and nurses. Meanwhile, most doctors and construction laborers are men. In addition, Anker points out that “Occupational segregation by gender is prevalent in most if not all countries” (Anker 1998). “Women and men work in different fields and within fields at different levels” (Anker 1998). Diekman and Wilde explained that “men’s concentration in leadership and other high power roles led to the assumption that men have “agentic characteristics” such self-assertion and dominance and women’s concentration in subordinate and caretaking roles lead to the assumption that they have “communal characteristics” such as being kind and supportive (Diekman and Wilde 2005).

What is required to be considered masculine or feminine? Is it based upon physical features? Or is it based upon the person’s personality? Unfortunately, in today's society gender is often associated with a person’s physical appearance. A man earns the label of being masculine through his substantial muscles, sharp look, extravagant attire and his remarkable height. Meanwhile a woman is labeled as feminine through her body language, make-up, physical features, social status, and exposing clothing. Gender characteristics should not be defined by physical attributes, they should be defined by the person’s personality. Personality is what truly defines a person’s gender whether a male or female. To have the dignity of being a man or woman, it is a must to behave like a gentleman or a lady.
Men are seen as the handy workers and women are seen as the caretakers. Women are affected a great deal by stereotypes relating to the jobs they receive. “The majority of jobs surveyed were perceived as sex-stereotyped. Both males and females expressed preferences for jobs that they identified as being segregated and stereotyped towards their sex,” (Gross 61). Certain people who influence these stereotypes are managers of corporate companies refusing to give women certain jobs and equal pay.

Today men and women have equal roles in the modern family. In the past, men were the breadwinners in the family while women did household chores and took care of the children. At the present time both men and women work to earn money and the husband is often times able to stay home and assume the “gender role” of the woman. In fact, it is becoming increasingly common for individuals to regard both sexes in different manners, perspectives, and viewpoints even as young as their adolescence. After analyzing and questioning male 's and female 's reasoning towards their particular career choice, I realize that there was a certain pattern towards gender and career. Most male pursued what society depict as a masculine occupation such as doctors, architects, or technology based jobs. Meanwhile, most women pursed what society depict as a feminine occupations such as teachers, secretaries, assistance or nursing. The most shocking discovery is when men pursued feminine jobs, they are more likely to be encouraged to rise towards a more masculine position like managers or owners and were more likely to receive a raise in pay. On the other hand, women were discouraged towards such management fields and were more likely to be underrepresented and/or discouraged. This spiked a controversy about gender and their occupation opportunities being controlled by society and its constructed views on gender roles. Looking back from one 's childhood, society 's process of creating a gender constructed culture begins during pregnancy.
There are many differences between men and women in the work place. Some of those differences are real things, but some of these differences are not real. The media has been talking about these things a lot lately. Some of the problems are caused by the people around the person and the way they see things.
For our campaign we came up with the slogan LC love making, this idea came to us based on the concept that if someone is invested in making love rather than just “hooking up” and “getting it in” that all parties involved may have a safer and more enjoyable sexual experience. However, some people do choose to have casual sexual relationships, which is also okay, so in addition we also want to educate people on all aspects of sexuality to spread self-love and love for all people, as a way to also lead to a better, safer campus for sexual relationships.
