The world is constantly changing in many different ways. Whether it is technological or cultural change is present and inevitable. Organizations are not exempt from change. As a matter of fact, organizations have to change with the world and society in order to be successful. Organizations have to constantly incorporate change in order to have a competitive advantage and satisfy their customers. Organizations use change in order to learn and grow. However, change is not something that can happen in an organization overnight. It has to be thought through and planned. Diagnostic Models are used “to provide an understanding of the organization and the effective action within it by simplifying the reality” (Janićijević, 2010, pp. 85). These models are used to determine what kind of information is needed in order to implement change. The diagnostic model makes it easier for an organization to determine where to begin their diagnosis and categorize the data. (Hassin, 2010, pp. 25) The simplicity of the diagnostic model makes it easier for an organization to comprehend and address problems within the organization. Organization, group, and individual are the three levels the diagnostic models uses in order to analyze problems. (Cummings, 2009) Organizational Level Diagnosis Organizational Level Diagnosis is the broadest level to be diagnosed. The organizational level focuses on the function of the organization as a whole. The general environment as well as the task environment are inputs. The strategy, structure, and processes of the organization are evaluated at this level. In order to know what action steps need to be taken the organization must understand the environments. The environments are determined by external forces such as the economy, technology, and society. When looking at the functionality of the organization, upper management has to make sure the goals and mission are aligned.
