The Most Dangerous Game In the Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, it shows a great effort of courage from both characters. It all started with the main character. He was stranded on a ship trap island. He fell of his yacht and swam to the island. He found a cabin and sought help. There he met General Zaroff and started to understand what he did on the island. General Zaroff told him that he was an expert hunter and showed him all the animals on the island. Rainsford, the main character, figured out that Zaroff owned the island. General Zaroff was kind and helped out rainsford by giving him shelter and food. Throughout the story even though it is not apparent at first Rainsford and Zaroff have similarities. Towards the end of the story
Rainsford and General Zaroff are alike in many ways. In the text it said that General zaroff was talking to Rainsford about how god made him a hunter, and how his hands were made for the trigger. Whitney told rainsford that they were big game hunters. They also have unique skills when it come to hunting. For
Rainsford was more justified in his actions than General Zaroff was. It is better that Rainsford killed General Zaroff instead of General Zaroff killing Rainsford.
When Rainsford first arrives on the island, General Zaroff asks him to hunt and explains the unusual nature of his prey. Rainsford agrees to hunting with Zaroff. Rainsford really likes hunting and he knows what to do so he doesn’t need Zaroffs help. The reason why Rainsford doesn’t need Zaroffs help is because Rainsford knows more about hunting then Zaroff does, that’s probably why Zaroff is asking for Rainsfords help. Zaroff likes hunting for human, but there isn’t a lot of human on that island most of the things on the island are animals. Rainsford only agreed to help Zaroff because that’s the only way off the island and Rainsford doesn’t want to stay on the island. He wants to get off. Well another way he can get off of the island is by
Zaroff totally mistreats Rainsford when he gets to the island. Not only does Rainsford swim from where he falls off the boat to the island but then
The two characters in the story both have different backgrounds and different personalities. As Rainsford is a world-renowned American hunter while Zaroff is a well-off Russian Cossack who has military experience and lives on his own island. Also, throughout the story, both Rainsford and Zaroff display different personality traits. One-way General Zaroff portrays himself is a confident, calm, Impassioned man, while Rainsford shows himself as being a profound person who is in not the best of situations.
General Zaroff and Rainsford are similar in that they are both audacious. When Rainsford heard the dogs coming he didn't give up but instead he built a trap in order to trap the Generals dogs. If Rainsford wouldn't have been brave and build the trap for the dogs, he would not still be alive. Even though Rainsford is brave, the General is just as brave. When The General realized that Rainsford was a better hunter than he was, he did not get discouraged and give up but instead he kept trying. This is important because if he would have given up, he would have had no chance of winning whatsoever.
General Zaroff and Rainsford share many traits that show how similar they actually are. For example, They both have the same build. This means their bodies are the same shape and size. Proof of this is on page 9, it says “‘ You’ll find that my clothes will fit you, I think.’” If their clothes can fit each other, their bodies must be alike. Another similarity between them is that they are both hunters. Examples of this is when Rainsford and Whitney are on their yacht. They talk about going to Rio to hunt jaguar (1). For Zaroff, on page 10 he says how his one passion is the hunt. Finally, both of them are wealthy. For instance, on page 1, Rainsford and Whitney are on a yacht. Yachts are very big and expensive boats. Also, on page 7, Rainsford sees Zaroff’s giant chateau, on Zaroff’s private island. Theses characters are very similar, and therefore have interesting interactions.
Being lost in an island, hungry, and tired is not an everyday thing. So Rainsford being in that situation, had no other choice than except Zaroff’s generosity. Zaroff gave Rainsford clothes, food and, a place to sleep. Zaroff tells Rainsford to join him for dinner, and Rainsford went to the dinner room as told. Sitting down eating there meal. The two men’s starts a conversation and starts to talk about their lives. Zaroff learns a lot of things about Rainsford and so does Rainsford. Rainsford learns that Zaroff is a smart man and a hunter just like him, but Zaroff him hunting people is part of things that he hunts for. Zaroff on another hand learns that Rainsford is a pretty smart, educated man and lastly a hunter.4
There are two different types of hunting. When it come to animals hunting other animals for food, they sometimes do it for fun to prove dominance. Humans hunt animals for game or to eat as well.General Zarroff remained confident, in the hunt for rainsford but failed. General Zarroff's character remains the same throughout the story while Rainsford is frightened throughout parts of the story. In the story Zarroff is hunting Rainsford because they made after Zarroff made him have to play his game and if he won he could leave the island that he ends up on, and must fight for his life during a 3 day period. General Zarroff lives on this island and traps people in it so they cannot escape and takes care of them until he can hunt them.Richard Connell uses mood/tone in his story “The Most Dangerous Game” to convey the theme of competition rarely enhances a person’s character.
There are many similarities and differences between General Zaroff and Rainsford in the story "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. The calm, cool, and collected strategy in a life or death situation greatly contrasts the murderous, sadistic, cold-blooded passion for the hunt of the General. General Zaroff is truly a sadistic man with no value for human life. Throughout the story, he can be seen trying to intimidate Rainsford through his knowledge of what truly makes a human an animal. He has lost all sense of the difference between killing for sport and blind, cold-hearted killing.
I feel like General Zaroff demonstrates the characteristic of being courageous. Zaroff says, “I hunt more dangerous game(p.3). General Zaroff mentions that there is a big game on the island, he is referring to hunting dangerous things. This shows that Zaroff has a lot of courage and isn’t afraid of a big challenge when it comes to hunting. General Zaroff and Rainsford discusses hunting the biggest animal in the game and immediately Rainsford brings up the tiger.
While he was the pray and Zaroff was the hunter his instincts helped him defeat Zaroff. The hunt went on for two days with Zaroff trying to kill rainsford on the island. While the hunt went on rainsford claimed the life of a hunting dog, Ivan, and general Zaroff. Even though he didn't know the terrain of the island his instent was what made him over come Zaroff. He had the island all to himself.
Rainsford and Zaroff display a multitude of traits and passions they possess in common. For example, after Zaroff has welcomed Rainsford
After realizing he is trapped on the island, Rainsford seeks shelter and discovers the building owned by Zaroff. As Rainsford enters the building his, “first impression was that the man was singularly handsome” (4). General Zaroff’s appearance contributed to Rainsford’s first impression of the man. The general “had high cheekbones, a sharpcut nose,” and an arcane persona that caught the eye of the protagonist. (4). His distinctive appearance sparked curiosity within Sanger Rainsford. General Zaroff’s captivating looks provide the reader with a general idea of how to envision him as the story continues and helps foreshadow events that might occur later on in the
Although we like to think otherwise, there are evil people out there. Evil people do not have magical powers, or anything similar. It is their twisted minds that define them as evil. Montresor, a cold blooded murderer in “Cask Of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe leads a good friend to his own death. General Zaroff was a cossack war general in the Russian army in “Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. Zaroff lures innocent sailors to his island where he then hunts them like animals. Both characters have evil minds, and can be described by the traits sinister, sly, and insane.
