There are many speculations and controversy surrounding the use of Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMOs. There will be explanations of the negative aspects of Genetically Modified Organisms with the described studies to go along with them. The positive Genetically Modified Organisms facts will be mentioned and described to counter weigh the negatives. There will also be a look into the use of hormones in farm animals and the negative outcomes from them and how the use of the hormones usually gets tied in with the Genetically Modified substances. The kingpin of the GMO world, Monsanto will be researched to provide insight into the plans of the company and the things they are doing to better the crop situation. Starting with a definition of Genetically Modified and an explanation of where they are used: Genetically Modified Organisms are living organisms that living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This basically means that you go into the genetic makeup of an organism or plant and replace a deficient gene with a more preferred gene that can help the plant or organism to prosper in different situations it might be faced with. To start the negatives about Genetically Modified Organisms, the “lack of safety” coming from the use of GMOs on the people that are ingesting them. According to The American Academy of Environmental Medicine, they believe that doctors should prescribe “no GMO” diets.
