Emerald Bay is located on the North East side of the island above Two Harbors.Catalina is 22 miles from Los Angeles. The climate of the island is lukewarm all year round, it rarely goes under the 60s and when it does it is in the very middle of the winter. In my opinion that is is a very pleasant island, weather wise.Catalina is home to many threatened, or endangered plants species like the Aphanisis,California groundsel, cottonwood, California Dissantheliums, Catalina Island Monkey Flower and other plants like that. Some native animals that live there are bison, bullfrog, mule, deer, garibaldi fish, and other native animals. There are many thing to do at this terrific camp.

It was one of the prettiest sunset views I have ever seen. Before we peacefully hiked up into the hills we learn a little about the fascinating history and geography of Catalina Island. We also learned about the strong and fruitful trees they have at Emerald Bay. Then we walked up into the green hills. We saw a gorgeous sunset. It is very windy and a little chilly, but it is to totally worth it. There is a lot of trees and plants up there to see and examine. If you are to go to this terrific camp I am sure you will be blown away by the view and the wild life of hiking on the Emerald Bay
My eyes peeled open slowly and the bright sunlight flooded into my eyes, blinding me. I heard the sound of running water and felt the cold breeze flow over my body. I looked out of my hammock and in front of me was a beautiful waterfall and several towering, bright green trees. My friends whom were with me shortly awoke and we packed our things and set off on our first true day of hiking in the Appalachian mountains.
Nowadays, people stay away from analyzing how their actions impact the environment producing long lasting consequences. The opportunity to act is right where anyone stands and the closest one to this area is known as the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Therefore, the amount of nutrients going into the Chesapeake Bay should be reduced since the use of fertilizers has increased dramatically over time causing water pollution and the death of many species.
Each hut was 16’ by 14’ and a door on one end. It may seem like a lot of room for one but you had to share with 12 other people. Even though there was a fire inside the ventilation between the logs was not the best, so the air was really sick and made it hard to breathe. With the conditions of weather getting colder outside they would have to keep the fire and in the diary of Dr. Albigence Waldo he states himself that, “Hartley wish myself at home, my Skin and eyes are almost spoil’d with continual smoke. A general thro’ the Camp this Evening among the Soldiers.” (Document C). Between the cold and have to share a space so small and compact wouldn’t be something I would enjoy.
The third floor is host to four bedrooms. This is the adult sleeping quarters. Each room has a coal fireplace, hardwood floors flowing throughout, the same white paint on the walls, and extravagant gas light fixtures. It has high windows that lead to the balcony and provides a spectacular view.

Along the east side of the park, one and a quarter miles of sandy beachfront boasts open views of the Atlantic Ocean. This beautiful area offers visitors access to warm waters and white sands. With a reef six miles offshore, the waters are protected and gentle waves lap at the feet of both children and adults.

Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York: a small community located on the north shore of the famous long island has been the set for many films and television shows, home to many historical people, a vacation spot with a rich and sophisticated night life, as well as much more, but more importantly it is my hometown. Being situated on a map at 40.7594° N, 73.5028° W, it can be found between Oyster Bay Cove and Mill Neck on the “Gold Coast”, miles off of Oyster Bay Sound. The town of Oyster Bay is roughly 170 square miles and the highest elevation of the town is around 180 feet.
The name Emerald Coast sounds like a place from a fairytale, but the truth is, it is far better than any storyteller’s fantasy land. Emerald Coast exists in reality as a place with stunning beachside cities, including, Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island, breathtaking, sugar-white beaches, enchanting emerald green waters, protected bays and bayous, quaint historic districts, military heritage, and hidden state parks. Located along the Northwest Florida Panhandle, between Pensacola and Panama City, on the east side of the St. Andrews Bay this 100 miles stretch of shoreline is said to have been given it name, ‘Emerald Coast’ in 1983, by a local junior high school student.
Ecotours and parasailing are other popular activities in the area. Boating is not just for the daytime. The locally available sunset tours are unforgettable.
Generally, slaves slept in a shed or cabin built a distance from the owner’s home, but still within the master’s line of sight (Mark Carson lecture). They were provided with a food ration to be prepared in any free time allowed to them. In Northup’s experience under one slaveholder, this weekly ration consisted of three and a half pounds of bacon and a scanty amount of corn to make cornmeal. His bed was a plank of wood, with a log for a pillow. He was given one coarse blanket over his twelve years of captivity. The crudely built structure allowed for extreme temperatures or driving rain to penetrate, furthering its inhabitants’ discomfort (Twelve Years a Slave,
The photo below is of me on top of Angel’s Landing. You can see that when you get to the top that you can see very far. The hike took us about 3-4 hours and in my opinion it was a lot of fun. The
At the beginning of chapter two there is a very clear description of the bunkhouse. Steinbeck writes, "The bunk-house was a long, rectangular building. Inside, the walls were whitewashed and the floor unpainted. In three walls there were small, square windows, and in the fourth a solid door with a wooden latch. Against the walls were eight bunks, five of them made up with blankets and the other three showing the burlap ticking.
The building looks like it put together in a hurry and built with only boards and nothing to keep the cold out. The bunks are also just boards and no mattress or beading, and the floor is dirt. The floor is very flat for being a dirt floor. This is probably due to the Jewish people living inside have walked on it so much they flattened the floor out. The roof seems to be sheets of tin thrown haphazardly on.
Our cabin is located at the northern most point of the base, parallel to the mess hall. The cabin is made of plywood, everything from the door, to the walls to the ceiling are plywood. The only thing that isn’t plywood is the cement floor but that heats up during the daytime and is impossible to walk on without shoes. The beds we lined up with four on the left side and three on the opposite side. Each man decorated their area, mine was simple. Above my bed was a Canadian flag and below that pinned with sharpened stone.
