In “Of Mice and Men”, John Steinbeck explores the complex relationship between George andLennie through many ways. George and Lennie’s relationship is kept together through manyfactors, they both have their own difficulties, and they both are different from other people on the farm. This is what makes their relationship complex. To begin with, there are many factors that keep George and Lennie together. “It’s a lot niceto go around with a guy you know,” said George” (Steinbeck 35). It doesn’t always seem like it, but deep down, George enjoys Lennie’s company. George knows he would be extremely lonely without Lennie, and vice versa. “Him and me was both born in Auburn. I knowed his Aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby
In Of Mice and Men George and Lennie are almost like brothers as they travel and do everything together. It was rare to have such a close friend like they had with each other and they knew that. They both knew that they had to stay with each other or else they would have a very tough time. This is because George and Lennie have opposite characteristics. George is smart and small while Lennie is big, strong, yet dumb. This could be surprising to one because they are so different but so friendly to one another even though they have so many differences. In the beginning of the novel, George and Lennie had a disagreement and when Lennie threatened to leave his partner, George said, “No-- look! I was jus’ foolin’, Lennie. ‘Cause I want you to stay with me” (Steinbeck 13). This shows that George knows that he needs Lennie because Lennie is very strong which can get them a lot of work on farms so that they can make money. Lennie had a dream where a

We are introduced to them both at the beginning of the book. As the two talk, it becomes clear that Lennie has a mental disability but is deeply devoted to George and dependent upon him for protection.
George and lennie's relationship is very similar to candy and his dog They both have been with each other, They both had to kill the other, and one of them holds the other back. A example of candy and his dog being together is when candy stated ”well-hell! I had him so long had him since he was a pup I herded sheep with him”(steinbeck p.44). Candy has been with this dog since it was a tiny little pup and now it's old and ready to die that's at least more than ten years that candy and his dog have looked out for eachother.

The development of the relationship between George and Lennie by Steinbeck in Of Mice and Men explicitly shows how the desire for material possession is often driven by the pleasure of a companion. The greater part of the novel's appeal, George and Lennie's relationship, although far from what one could call a reciprocal friendship, intrigues the reader in the same way many comic duos intrigue. It is easy to identify with the "smart guy" who helplessly tries to cope with and control his irrational, dumb and, yet, spontaneous, child-like partner as they lurch from one self-inflicted crisis to another. Steinbeck uses that classic comic routine so that the reader warmly identifies and recognizes the relationship. Steinbeck's narrator establishes and characterizes George's lording of power and control over Lennie early in the first chapter:

Lennie is very dependent even though he is an adult, he possess a child’s mind and can’t think for himself. He and George have quite the background together and their friendship proves that George is a good friend to Lennie. George is constantly sacrificing his time and life to make sure Lennie is safe and healthy. He lies to people, including the boss of his ranch to make sure he has a reputation around the ranch, since he can cause a lot of trouble by himself.
Although George and lennie are best friends, George had to kill him to save him from torture. First, George Knows that if Curley and his men find lennie they´ll make sure he suffers and makes it a slow painful death. He said he wanted to kill him himself. Curley wanted to shoot him in the stomach so he has to bleed out. Next, George knows that it´d only be right for him to take lenny´s life. he had been taking care of him for a very long time. He wanted to be the one who takes care of him till the end. And Last, George was getting tired of taking care of lennie. He knows even if they did move on lennie would surely mess up again. He has now killed a puppy and Curleys wife. In any case murder is wrong but this was the best option George could
Throughout Of Mice and Men the reader rarely sees George without Lennie or Lennie without George. They differ from the rest of the people on the farm for they have each other, “because I got you
George’s isolation is also illustrated in Steinbeck’s Mice and Men. George expresses many hard feelings towards Lennie at the opening of this story. “‘...you’re a lot of trouble,’ said George. ‘I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn’t have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe have a girl.’” (pg.7). For as much as George says he doesn’t like to have Lennie by his side every second of the day, something keeps him from completely abandoning him. At one point, Lennie realizes how much George wants him to leave, and he almost goes off by himself to find a cave so he doesn’t have to cause George so much grief and sorrow. “‘No-look! I was jus’ foolin’, Lennie. ‘Cause I want you to stay with me...” (pg.12-13). George

In the novella Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck, the relationship between Lennie Small and George Milton is complex. Lennie and George are two companions who look for work and brave the hardships of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression together. Although Lennie and George are both grown men, their relationship resembles more of a child and a single parent, or a boy and his dog. Lennie is portrayed as animalistic and childish through his behavior and Steinbeck’s comparisons. This reveals the crucial power dynamic in George and Lennie’s relationship.
