I have chosen to write a Letter that shows the feelings Syme (a not so major character in the novel 1984) has in regards towards Newspeak and his thoughts on where the language is headed and how he wants it to end up. This is based upon the first part of the Language and Literature course. The character I have chosen to write as is Syme one of Winston’s friends who in the end due to his intelligence. Writing a letter as Syme contributes his personal opinion of the Joys, flaws and future of their language. The letter written is opinionated and tries to get the points of how Newspeak works to Winston, who clearly does not have the same amount of exhilaration towards it as Syme does.
