Tenet was appointed by President Clinton as Director of the Intelligence (DCI) in 1997, just 19 months after becoming deputy to DCI. In addition, even the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency own research and data did not support global warming yet it too was used to support climate change legislation! (Halbert. 2009) CONCLUSION Both lessons show an inherent lack of honor, integrity and, to a large extent leadership. The textbook defines honor as being a “moral compass” an individual possess. (Shafritz, Russell & Borick. 2011. p. 176) In addition, integrity is a person’s word or bond that gives them credibility in their actions and commitments. Tenet lacked both honor and integrity when he made the decision to allow the use of data he knew to be false as a basis for war, and put the blame for the botched data on his staff saying, “While so many opportunities to sound the alarm were missed is a mystery to me.” (White Jr. 2008) Throughout the process he had many opportunities to right the wrongs and chose rather to allow it to continue without asserting himself. In doing so, Bush, Collin Powell, Tenet himself and the very agency Tenet led all lost credibility from world nations and their own country.
