The first election of the twenty-first century was between the republican candidate Al Gore and George W Bush. This was the fifty-fourth presidential election and it was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2000. (The Election of 2000) George W. Bush was the incumbent governor of Texas and the son of George H.W. Bush who was a former president, and Al Gore was the incumbent Vice President. Because of the fact that Bill Clinton wasn’t eligible to serve another term Al Gore was able to receive the democratic place in the election fairly easily. (United States Presidential Election of 2000) Al Gore was the favorite to win the democratic presidential nominee, because he had almost no competition from Bill Bradley who was the Governor of New Jersey. It was a change from a democrat in office to a republican, the country was dealing with terrorists threats, and it brought up issues about the way votes were counted.
The government saw some change after this election, when George W. Bush was elected president after the issue with the votes in Florida. George W. Bush, who was the oldest of six Children of George H.W. Bush and Dorothy Pierce Bush, was born on July 6th 1946. (George W. Bush." History.com) He was born in the town of New Haven Connecticut. History.com) He attended high school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and then later went on to Yale. (George W. Bush." History.com) George W. Bush had differing thoughts on the matters at hand as a president. For instance if Bill Clinton was still president was still president while nine eleven happened it would have been handled differently. Just as if Al Gore was elected president instead of George W. Bush. George W. Bush accomplished many excellent things during his presidency. For instance, among many of the early decisions made among the Bush
The US Supreme Court inserted itself into a state issue and declared Bush president by a majority of conservatives vote of 5-4. The Supreme Court elected Bush because of a problem with the number of votes in Florida. Al Gore definitely won the popular vote, but no one really knows who won the electoral vote. Whichever candidate win in the State of Florida, win the presidency because the 25 electoral votes were the most important vote.
The 1992 and 2012 U.S. Presidential Elections were two of the most famously negative campaigns in history and share multiple similarities despite being separated by twenty years. In 1992, incumbent President George H.W. Bush was seeking reelection against Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, while the 2012 general election saw incumbent President Barack Obama seeking reelection against former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. The campaigns of both incumbent presidents incorporated heavy use of television attack advertisements in the attempt to improve their political image, discredit their opponent, and win reelection.
W. Bush’s position of being a member of the House of Representatives (Biography…George W. Bush). Additionally, it wasn’t until after his father’s successful win for President in 1988 when George W. Bush gathered a group of partners together to purchase the Texas Rangers baseball team (Biography…George W. Bush). Only after briefly owning the Texas Rangers did George W. Bush decide to put his name into the Governor’s hat and run for Governor of Texas. However, some of his private affairs were leaked to the public, including his early years of alcoholism before his marriage to Laura Welch. This, from personal perspective, played a huge role in how he was looked at during his career of public service as Governor and President of the United States. In all honesty, the lack of public service experience was the most likely result of his dismal eight years as president, which included getting the United States of America involved in an unnecessary war and leaving America in a recession once leaving office.
A major decision that George W. Bush had to make was whether or not to send Americans to Iraq after the 9/11 incident. 4 planes were hijacked that day, 2 went into both World Trade Center buildings, 1 crashed into the Pentagon, the
The previous election had an unusual end result. He was running against John Adams and had Aaron Burr to run as his vice president. During his campaign, Jefferson stated that he would run a very provident, and straightforward government. Many thought that Jefferson was being an atheist, which was highly offensive. They thought he would take away religion and have no principles. But it was when the votes were counted, the real troubles started. The result was a tie. Because it was a tie, the House of Representatives voted and the outcome was another tie. After a 6 day wait, Alexander Hamilton persuaded his supporters to vote for Jefferson very easily, and broke the tie. Jefferson had won the election of 1800. This election not only gave the U.S a good president, but also proved the peacefulness of the new government. Power had been transferred without war, unlike other
George W. Bush became a great politician, first starting out as the Governor of Texas, and advocating for welfare reform, like developing houses, and making that happen with the American Dream Downpayment Fund, and also things like Tort Reform, to limit the rights of the citizens and corporations in order to limit government spending. As the only governor of Texas to serve two consecutive terms, Bush really made it worth his while. In Bush’s second term as Governor he wanted Crime Reduction, by making punishment harder on criminals, and allowing mare gun control. He also advocated for the improvement of the education system by making standardized tests and an early reading process for children and school districts. After being governor Bush went straight for the Presidency.

George H.W Bush took office January 20, 1989 while George W Bush took office January 20, 2001. As far as getting reelected only George W Bush did being president for eight straight years ending in January 20, 2009.
The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in history as one of the most closest elections¡¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They finally conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before the election was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican candidate George W. Bush was declared the winner of the Florida¡¦s 25 electoral votes. This was a victory by a razor thin margin of popular
It doesn’t take a political expert to see that the 2000 presidential election between Bush and Gore was extremely illegitimate. This can be observed through the recount incident which took place in the state of Florida. Many people, especially seniors, felt that they had not voted for the right candidate, which was due to a confusing ballot setup. The ballots were called “butterfly ballots”. These ballots, as one could imagine, had candidates on either side which the voter could choose from. Seems simple enough, right? Unfortunately, that was not the case. The font on the ballots were extremely minuscule, as well as condensed. To add to that, the voter had to use a pin to make a puncture next to their selection. Some people, who were either
On November 8, 1988, Republican Presidential candidate Vice President George H. W. Bush was elected as the forty-first President of the United States of America. Bush defeated Democratic challenger Governor Michael Dukakis by a ratio of a bout six-to-five. 49 million people voted for Bush, netting him 426 electoral votes while 42 million voted for Dukakis getting him 112 electoral votes. Strangely, a man not even running for President received an electoral vote; Lloyd Bentsen (Democratic Vice President Nominee) received one electoral vote from the state of West Virginia. Bush's victory was also a victory for the Republican Party, but the Democrats received a similar victory in that they
Florida is a popular state when discussing political controversy. The media rushes to Florida during congressional and presidential elections due to its reputation as a conflicted state. Here we find the southern regions to be rather liberal and voting democratically, and on the other hand, we see the northern regions voting mostly conservatively. This creates controversy in the United States because Florida is a major determining factor of what kind of outcome we are going to get for a presidential election. This can be especially stressful for those running for office either presidentially or for the state specifically because they are unaware of their chances of gaining the states support and being elected into office.
The Bush family moved to Texas when George was only two years old. George Herbert Walker Bush, George’s father, had just graduated from Yale and wanted to attempt a living in the oil business. The family moved to a rough part of Texas called Odessa, and though times were not always easy , it eventually became a
The election of 2000 was significant because it was one of the closest elections to date. The election of 2008 was historic because it was the first time an African American was elected president. The election of 2016 differs from other elections because it is the two most-hated candidates in history. Also, it is the first time a woman has been nominated as the candidate for a major party. The purpose of concession speeches is to show gratitude toward their supporters and families.
At the conclusion of President Barack Obama’s historical consecutive terms in office there is going to be a large number of candidates that are vying for the nominations of the respective parties. Due to the constitutional term limits imposed on the President, Obama is barred to seek re-election in 2016. While there are about 10 candidates running for the republicans, there are only two still in the running for the Democratic Party. The way candidates are recognized by their respective parties to become a candidate for the United States Presidency is first by receiving an invitation to compete in the primaries, then being included in the nationwide polls, as well as being on the ballot for at least 75% of all states. At the conclusion of the February 1st caucus there were 3 Democrats and 10 republicans who were still in the Presidential race, since then one Democratic candidate had dropped out.
