George W. Bush led the country during a time of great challenge and change. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the global war on terror, the war in Iraq, and the economic downtown of 2008 are just some of the major events that Bush had to contend with during his time in office. At different times, President Bush was both the most popular president and one of the least popular presidents in American history.
Although the United States has been regarded as having dominant world power amongst other nations, the truth lies far from its holdings. During the George W. Bush administration (2001-09), the United States went through the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, declared war on Afghanistan and Iraq causing poor standing with other nations, and was left with a $1.2 trillion-dollar deficit. With the election of a new President, President Obama, came new opportunities. During his campaign, President Obama focused on the needs of the American people rather than the needs of those of special interest. The former State Senator, Barack Obama, and Vice
While George H. W. Bush was in office he did many great things and bad things. During his first presidency, he helped out in the Lebanese hostage crisis, the oil spill in Alaska, and was involved in ongoing wars against drug trafficking. Also during his first presidency, he signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with Soviet president Mikhail S. Gorbchev. During his second presidency, he sent troops to Panama to overthrow the corrupt regime on General Manuel Noriega and to
With the approach of the year 2000, the Contested Presidential Election Between George W. Bush and Al Gore took place, with George W. Bush taking over the presidency. In 2003, following the attacks of 9/11, war was declared on Iraq which began the conflict that lasted many years and arguably is still going on today (with our presence in the Middle East). As president, president Bush plowed through a $1.3 trillion tax cut program, passed the No Child Left Behind Act, and also pushed for socially conservative efforts, such as the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act and faith-based welfare initiatives. Almost eight million people immigrated to the United States between the year 2000 and 2005; practically half of them entered illegally.
presidency we can see the events that shaped him as a person and an American leader.
Some of the presidential decisions during their presidency has had a major impact on how the world sees the United States, such as nuclear disarmament or reaction after terrorist attacks on September 11
The presidents of the United States of America each made their own individual mark on our great country. Naturally, through their presidencies we would see strengths and weakness from each president that would make the country love some of them while despising the rest of them. Today I attempt to walk down the presidencies from our founding Father George Washington all the way to the less than inspiring James Buchanan.
Throughout the history of the United States, the country has seen several different presidents of varying degrees of success. Some have been declared the greatest in history, while others are despised for being incapable of making the best decisions for the country. Presidents have been hailed for moving America forward during a time of turmoil and others have been accused of seeking personal gain.
Before I begin on his presidency I thought that make a brief rewind to be more specific a sixty-nine year rewind. On July 6, 1946 George Walker Bush a boy similarly named after his father George Herbert Walker Bush, also the eldest of his six siblings that he would soon later meet. One of his siblings in particular had some impact on George and that was his sister Robin, at the age of 3 she was diagnosed with Leukemia and months later unfortunately losing the fight and passed away. Now everybody has that one subject that the just cant seem grasp onto, well for our
Presidential greatness isn’t necessarily determined just by success or remembrance, but is determined by the ideas that a president has and how it impacts the people. Each president sets out with an agenda to accomplish and to leave a legacy behind, however, only few presidents are remembered, celebrated, and taught about. The history of great presidents often correlates to time of war for America. This is because great presidents often emerge to the people in times of crisis, such as wars. Of the many great presidents, Woodrow Wilson, offers unique qualities such as energy, intelligence, and leadership that make him a great president.
Throughout the years we have had some great United States presidents and some terrible ones. When we elect a president, we want someone who will improve our country and stabilize our economy. However, many presidents do not accomplish this during their term and end up causing the opposite effect to happen. One president who is on the list of presidents that made the country worse and our economy decline is George W. Bush. He was the United States president from 2001 to 2009. George W. Bush was one of the worst United States presidents for many reasons, but the top three on my long list are first and foremost his decision to start the war on Iraq, second his support of the Military Commissions Act, and last but not least his handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Roosevelt's pledge to his constituents as well as his political prowess and strong-willed demeanor placed hopes in the hearts of Americans. On the eve of his inauguration night alone, "Roosevelt told the nation that `the only thing we have to fear is fear itself and promised effective leadership in the crisis (Rosen)." Furthermore, throughout his four terms in office, FDR sensing that the American people needed guidance as well as comfort continued to aggressively lead the United States out of the Depression and later on persisted with his unique style of leadership as he was forced to take his constituents to war. During his time as president, Roosevelt's America was in a crisis and like most other nations throughout the world, in the same predicament; it thirsted for an exceptionally good leader with a superior moral compass and determination that was willing to take charge and point the way to a brighter future.
After Clinton left office, a republican from the state of Texas takes the presidency. George W. Bush wins the election of 2000 against Democrat Al Gore. Even though the Al Gore won the popular vote for the presidency, Bush won the vote from the Electoral College vote, causing him to win the running. Gore didn’t believe Bush won the votes, demanding a recount of the votes to ensure that he one but was later stopped by the Supreme Court. As president, bush supported many things, including the stem cell research, education reform, and the major tax cut for the people. Foreign policy became a great issue after the attacks on September 11, 2001 hit in the world trade center. 2 planes hit the towers each which caused them to collapse, 1 plane hit the pentagon and 1 plane attempted to hit the white house.
George Walker Bush, the former President of the United States, was not the hero that many people to this day believe he is – on the contrary, Bush is considered by numerous individuals do be the worst effective president in the history of the United States of America. Many ordinary Americans that live in states like Washington, Georgia, and Florida regard Bush as the greatest president in the history of the United States of America. In their minds, regardless of any controversy, he did it all. Bush won several wars that had been ongoing for many years, solved conflicts between various parties as quickly as he could, and fearlessly advocated for the American people and the rights that they deserved as ordinary American citizens. In the eyes of his loyal subjects (and subsequently, political supporters), President Bush was a political figure that few people could hope to compare themselves to. However, George Walker Bush harbors a dark side within himself, an empty void that indicts curiosity into the mind of the blissfully unaware reader. This seemingly impregnable fortress of happiness and content that the President portrays is often no more than a façade when it comes to the dealings of Mr. Bush during his tenure as the President of the United States. Unfortunately, George Walker Bush is not the dogmatic crusader that many people believe that he is
President Barack Obama will be seen as one of “the great presidents” by Historians. President Obama’s presidency will be seen as Historic because he was the first African American President. He served four years and was reelected for a second term with a high number of votes. He will be seen as great for his important accomplishment with the economy, healthcare, national and international leadership and more.
One of his greatest feats of leadership was when he first became president he started a program called the New Deal were he totally reshaped the economic system in the United States eventually getting America out of the Great Depression. Franklin Roosevelt also joined forces with Britain and the Soviet Union to help stop the axis powers in World War Two. Despite the hardships of his presidency Roosevelt overcame them and became one of the most influential presidents in American history through the character traits of optimism, persistence, and leadership.
