Throughout history the uses of executive orders have always been controversial. The form, substance and numbers of presidential orders have changed drastically in the US Presidency history. They are sometimes favored by the public, and other times they can be despised because they are related to really controversial issues. George Washington’s first executive order was believed to be more of a request than an order. The order asked the heads of various federal departments “to impress me with a full, precise, and distinct general idea of the affairs of the United States.” The order was not met with a lot of controversy because Washington wasn’t making a change to anything, merely asking for help from his advisors and the heads of various federal departments. Washington wrote to Vice President John Adams a month before issuing the order stating, “It will be much easier to commence the …show more content…
The order was blocked by a federal appeals court. The order was revised to avoid the tumult and protests that engulfed the nation’s airports after Mr. Trump signed his first immigration directive. The main revisions to the order was that one of the seven countries where taken off the list, exempts permanent residents and current visa holders, drop language offering preferential status to persecuted religious minorities, and reversed an indefinite ban on refugees from Syria, replacing it with a 120-day freeze that requires review and renewal. Not all of President’s Trump orders have been met with the same level of disdain, like all most other presidents, certain orders are liked by the public and others are not. Donald Trump inherited a much different country than George Washington, with a new set of problems, therefore understandably his orders are also different then Washington’s and any other presidents before
In my personal opinion Ithink the president should make executive orders should go through, but I believe that it should go through the judicial branch to prove that it is constitutional. With some presidents I can trust but with the others I don’t, democrat or republican. I also think the president should have good advisors and staff, but again That is peoples personal opinion for who will have good staff members. Another thing is that the president just has to be atleast somewhat smart to make smart decisions. Although many people do not agree with it I think the president should make executive orders.
A Federal Judge temporarily barred Trump’s Executive Order concerning the travel ban. This has caused extreme controversy among American’s as topics such as immigration, refugees, vetting, and religion all take tolls on the perspectives of the media as well as the average American. Nevertheless, the travel ban has been critiqued as well as praised by different groups and the Federal’s Judge’s emergency order has sparked debate on the constitutionality of the order.
George Washington had to borrow money to relocate to New York, then the center of American government. His presidential inauguration was held near New York 's Wall Street in late April 1789. A tremendous crowd showed up to see the man now known as "the Father of His Country." Borrowing a custom from English monarchs, who by tradition address Parliament when its sessions open, Washington gave a brief speech. It was the first inaugural address and the first of many contributions that Washington would make to the office of the presidency. But this would be no monarch; the new leader wore a plain brown suit.
Back in 1775, George Washington, who would later become America 's first president, accepts the assignment to lead the Continental Army. The Second Continental Congress unanimously voted and offered him the role of commander in chief. Washington was the perfect choice, because of his military experience from the Virginia Militia in 1753. George Washington 's childhood days are not like the average young boy in the 1700s. He had lost his father at 11 years of age, and lived the rest of his childhood moving from several homes with his mother, Mary Ball Washington. After 3 years, Washington
Met with mass protest and public outrage, the original travel ban was an executive order issued on January 27,2017. The ban rolled out an elaborate scheme said to protect the American people and “Make America Great Again”. The ban set a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted into the USA during 2017. It also included a temporary ban on Syrian refugees as well as people arriving from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations. After being found in violation Immigration & Nationality Act of 1965 due to its discriminatory nature, the order is now back and has been redrafted.
While there are many benefits of an executive order, the President should not be able to use them as it is overstepping their boundaries with Congress. They serve as a way for the President to abuse his power and they go against what is stated in the Preamble of the Constitution, deeming them unconstitutional.
President Donald Trump’s immigration policy, now an Executive order, has been the topic of controversy since the order was signed on January 27th, 2017 (BBC.com). An improved order was again signed on March 6, 2017 (BBC.com). However, a case in the Supreme Court of USA will determine the future of the ban, which runs between October 2nd and December 21st (BBC.com). The first executive order banned people from seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya from entering the United States for a period of 90 days. It also put a halt on refugee resettlement for 120 days and banned Syrian refugees permanently (Park). However, as per the revised executive order issued on March 6th, Iraq was removed from the list and the
Most people have realized that our country has changed over the last 220 years, but most have not realized the issues our country is facing today are issues that were recognized by our Founding Fathers during the beginning of our country. After prudently researching George Washington’s prodigious address to the citizens of America, I believe that his ideas on issues that plague our current government were spot on.
There are few individuals on this earth more important than the American President. The President of the United States of America (POTUS) plays a many great roles in the american government. One of the POTUS's largest roles is being the commander-in chief of one of the world's most expensive military and largest nuclear arsenal. Executive Orders (EOs) are one of the most prominent presidential powers because they are for the most part used to guide federal agencies in their execution of congressional laws or policies that have been established. A President's personal traits could sometimes get in the way of his judgment depending on how comfortable they are with a subject.
On January 27, 2017, President Trump issued an executive order that suspended entry of all refugees into the United States for one-hundred and twenty days. The order obstructed Syrian refugees for an unspecific time and blocked entry into the United States for ninety days for citizens of seven Muslim countries, such as: Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Yemen. This order also banned green card holder from these seven countries.
George Washington was the first president of the United States. Washington during the year of 1789 in April had moved from Virginia to the nation’s capital New York City to start his new term as president. Crowds had taken over streets and newspapers reported the American war hero. Washington’s inauguration was April 30, 1789. (Davidson, “crowds had taken over” pg.2013) Much of what he had done has set a precedent for the leaders to come. As the first president George Washington also assigned four well-known men to be secretaries to help the new country, the Secretary of Treasury was Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of war was Henry Knox, Thomas Jefferson who had written the Declaration of Independence was Secretary of State, and Edmund Randolph was the Attorney General.
On February 19th 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order No. 9066. This Order authorized the Secretary of War to allocate Japanese-American citizens to work camps in Military areas in the Western United States. The second paragraph’s first sentence of the Order says “As the President and Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, I command and direct the Secretary of War, and the Military Commanders, whenever they feel that when it is necessary to forgather the appropriate persons to a selected military area, where the appropriate Commander shall place the restrictions of allowance to leave, remain in, or enter the camp.” This Order was the response to the ongoing war with Japan, as the government
In the weeks since his inauguration, President Donald Trump has signed several executive orders that have directly effected the lives of individuals in this country. One such order was signed on January 25, 2017. This was the “Executive Order: Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States” (The White House, 2017). This executive order was marketed as having a positive effect that will “enhance our public safety”. However, the order is having quite the opposite effect within the Latino community. Where safety and security is promised, uncertainty and fear has been felt.
While not everyone may agree with, for example, the decision to declare war against Vietnam, it is only his personal opinion on the event that drives his statement. While this author, just like anyone else, is entitled to share their thoughts, there is a better argument for the opposite belief. While some may believe that executive order is dangerous for the President to have, congress purposefully passed a resolution allowing the president "to take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression.” This statement is very important because it shows the reasons for the introduction of executive order. When Congress fails to spell out in detail how a law is to be executed, it leaves the door open for the President to provide those details in the form of Executive Orders. Also, if the United States were to be threatened, executive orders are in place to allow the President to quickly and effectively protect the country and its citizens from outside threats (Document
Travel bans have been very popular in this year’s news, but they have been affecting people all over the world long before Trump came into office. Presidents use code 8 U.S.C. 1182 when creating travel bans, this code allows the president of the United States power to control and regulate entry into the United States (Kumar 1). While there are many reasons to create a ban, the foundation of them all should be to protect the citizens of the United States. Also in the article by
