Peter Pocket who was very charismatic stood on his soap box in Hyde Park Corner, in Old London Town, Great Britannia and giving anti government speeches. The land was now in financial ruin and there was unrest everywhere thanks to the government led by Premier Blabberon. Under Blabberon’s tenure, the majority of the populace felt the full impact of the government’s austerity measures. People were loosing what they once believed to be secure jobs and they were left homeless and destitute. It had taken a considerable period of time before people realised what the government’s true intentions were. What riled them most was the bedroom tax that they were forced to pay on any unoccupied bedrooms. This as the reader would imagine led to far greater hardship. Peter travelled throughout British Isles to garner support for the biggest anti government demonstration in the history of the land. He declared that there would be unrest and civil disobedience until the government relented. Premier Blabbleron was unprepared he and his cabinet ministers became increasingly alarmed. On the eve of the great march. Peter was run over by a hit and run driver and killed instantly. An outcry followed. Many people were convinced that he had been assassinated and were determined to seek justice. *** Premier Blabbleron and the Chancellor of the Exchequer Frogspawn were both medium height and slimy and had gelled hair. Deputy Dregg was a similar height and had short cropped hair. Ivan Dunking
The Peterloo Massacre is an example of active popular pressure in the movement for greater democracy in Britain. An estimated 18 people were trampled to death while 700 were injured during the battle in Manchester; this makes the event a significant act of popular pressure as deaths would result in the government responding quicker and more efficiently in considering the desires of the group. At the time Britain was under severe political tension, less than 2% of the population had the right to vote while hunger and poverty was rife as the Corn Laws made bread unaffordable. Source A shows a poster entitled ‘Manchester Heroes’ which was published in 1819; it highlights the mass of the crowd and the belligerence used by the Yeomanry that was sent by the government. The poster shows Henry Hunt, who led the protest, in the background saying “none but the brave deserve the fair”. This implies that the mind-set of the protesters was to stand up to the Yeomanry and put up a fight in order to achieve their goals of liberty and freedom. This makes the Peterloo massacre more significant in making greater democracy as the people were willing to do anything and will not back down until they achieve their goal of getting ordinary people the right to vote. This creates huge active popular pressure on the government to make change.
Since the beginning of american history there have been peaceful and non peaceful protests. These protests have had valuable effects on American society such as Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks have impacted society greatly and for the better. In my opinion peaceful protests still have negative effects though they are immensely more appropriate than non peaceful protests because peaceful protests often turn violent because people don't know how to act for example Trump Protests.
Protests are a way that many citizens have historically exercised their right to freedom of speech and as to voice their opinions on current matters in the U.S. as well as other nations. Protests help the uninformed get informed on specific issues, and try to persuade fellow citizens. What were some of the effective aspects of the protests that were portrayed in “The Matrix”, “Battle in Seattle” as well as those in “The Letter from Birmingham Jail”? What were the downfalls? An effective protest is one where an advocated idea gets across to the intended audience. Peaceful protests tend to have a better outcome than those that lead to violence.
Debra Brett is a 36 year old single mother housed in rented social housing on a south London high-rise housing estate. She is dependent on council contractors for repairs, with four children the flat is overcrowded, she feels invisible and hopeless.Debra Brett’s low income from benefits effect her education chances by her not being able to afford childcare, and are also effecting her older daughter’s education who is supplementing the family income by working part time while also at college. This will dictate the type of jobs possible for Debra and her family and prospective income of the family. After his death there was a post mortem where Peter’s injuries became apparent, he had swallowed a tooth after being punched, he had a broken back, broken ribs, and mutilated fingertips and had fingernails missing. It is believed he already had some of these injuries when taken to see the paediatrician for his development check, which would explain why he was
As the author moved from locale to locale she identified a variety of recurring hardships faced by the working poor. The chief concern for many was housing. Finding and maintaining economical housing was the principal source of disruption in their lives. For many of the working poor it’s not uncommon to spend more than 50% of income on housing. These leaves a scarce amount of money left over for anything else and creates a situation where the person is always worried about losing their shelter. In a nutshell, it’s Ehrenreich’s conviction that wages are too low and rents are too high. She does speak with many individuals who simply cannot afford the high rental rates and are forced to live with family, friends, or in some

From Cherokee Indians refusing to abandon their homes in 1838 to the Sit-ins of the civil rIghts movement in the early 1960s, people have been using acts of civil disobedience to stand against injustice they saw in their communities. Although there are many examples of people abusing this benefit and causing more grief and shame than progress, many have used it to their advantage to bring about positive change for the greater good of society, therefore acts of civil disobedience can positively impact a free society if they remain peaceful, respectful, and justified.
(document 5) . To prove he was an autocrat Peter also declared war on Sweden to open a road from Russia to the west by taking over the coastal region . He raised new armies after being defeated by Charles XII of Sweden and worked to create a good military and to construct ships to gain
What we learn from this excerpt about the protestors is that they were everyday blue collar workers that were provoked by the occupation of the British army in their colony and the crippling tax policies imposed on them. Most protestors were hardworking young men who demonstrated their aggression because of the crushing pressure of the British presence at the shipyard and ports. Another thing we learn is that the colonist on the following Friday before March 5 took their anger out and started a confrontation with British soldiers. The main reason for protest was the Stamp Act, which was a tax imposed on all paper documents and the Townshend Act, which imposed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. The protestors just wanted their
In this essay I will try to highlight the key attempts made to improve workers housing in Britain between the years of 1850-1910.
Created postal service, trade, public roads, and other public funded and used things without consent of England.
The cost for places to live like hotels, motels, or trailer parks may be within reason, but not enough for a blue collar worker’s salary. The difficulty in securing a place to live is not uncommon, and many have made ways to work around it like sharing apartments. Ehrenreich details these types of situations in her novel like “Tina, another server, and her husband [who] are paying $60 a night for a room in the Days Inn…[or] Joan… [who] lives in a van parked behind a shopping center at night and showers in Tina 's motel room” (pg. 25). Examples taken from Ehrenreich’s novel shows us the struggles that many have had to go through to secure a place to live. It isn’t to say that these people don’t work hard, but, unfortunately, this is the best they get for the work they put in and the pay they receive.
Protests riots in the United States has proven to an issue for both the country’s financial strength and the unity of the nation. With the presence of social injustices, combined with the increased impact of social media propaganda, protests riots are beginning to reach an all time high. Protest riots destroy individual communities and businesses, jeopardizes the safety of others and taints the protest’s cause by resorting to civil disobedience. Action must be done in order to prevent these random acts of violence from continuing after every social hot topic. The goal is not to prevent citizens from protesting; in fact, this should be encouraged. The goal is to change the way the protests are handled from both the citizens and authority perspectives, in order to prevent these protests from escalating into something dangerous.
Peter baptized the Roman pagan Cornelius and at the council of Jerusalem he gave his support to preaching to gentiles. He was imprisoned by King Herod Agrippa and escaped with the help of an angel. Peter died in Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero. It is said that Peter was crucified on the Vatican Hill upside down because her declared himself
