The Giant squid statue was made after a great 55 foot long Giant Squid had washed up on shore. That statue was made for tourist purposes and its a reflection of their history. It was also built for the people of Newfoundland, for them to remember that there was a time where the largest squid ever had washed up on that very
This Statue represents Thirty-nine Baltimoreans who died in the battles Lady Baltimore commemorates. This occurred between Sep. 12th and 15th in 1814 and plans for the monument in their honor began not long after. This statue represents the city of Baltimore. During the weekend I went to visit the replica statue and made an evaluation. The texture looked to be smooth her dress looks to be loose fitting and draped there are multiple lines and her hair looks soft, the statue looks to be showing motion as she holds her arm up with a perfect balance. She has a crown that sits on her head, the color looks to be fresh and clean being as though the new statue is only 3 years old. I saw a lot of space around the statue. I thought the Statue looked beautiful and I am honored to have seen it. I also gathered information about the original statue it stands 52 feet above ground, both of the arms have been broken off over the years by a combination of wind and rain and also has ruined the statue's eyes, nose, and ears. Underneath the monument, there are 18 layers of stone which are the number of states in the union in
This artifact is in Libon. This statue is dedicated to Henry the Navigator. He sent a lot of people to go discover parts of the new world. Because of Henry the Navigator, Portugal conquered Brazil. He was very important to Portugal and the exploration era.
It appears other minute details of the marble statue of Aphrodite have been damaged or lost, for example, the heat and base of her feet. Nonetheless, one can certify it is the statue of Aphrodite because of some of the figures that have been placed at her side. The characters beside the statue appear to represent icons commonly linked to Aphrodite. The dolphin symbolizes the birth of the goddess from the sea, and maybe that’s why people believed that she controlled animal fertility. Since the nose has broken off, it appears that the head is a mystery as to its finer and greater details.
The statue is a Roman reproduction of a Greek work. It shows Venus, the goddess of love, standing bare-breasted and clutching a piece of cloth draped around her hips. At her feet, there is a dolphin that, practically, adds support to the piece and artistically makes an allusion to Venus's birth from the sea. As the notes from the Getty Museum explain, the statue is derived from a very popular Greek statue created by the sculptor Praxiteles around 350 B.C. The statue was so popular that it was copied by many artists.
If pictures are worth one million words then a 3-d picture which is a monument is worth one million stories. The purpose of monuments is to tell a story about an events therefore crital thinking adn efforts are placed into making monuments. It is a very large piece made from Limestone. Limestone is a sedimentary rock which means it is formed by the accumulation of sediments, and it is very hard. The statue itself is not very detailed and is pretty simplistic. It is a statue of a human body. The statue is 71 in. (180.4 cm) which is
The Statue of Liberty was originally a gift to the United States from France, back in the late 1800's. The massive structure is one of
Greek art, especially sculpture, was a common way to explore and reach past the confines of mankind’s natural appearance be it through penises, huge muscles, or generalized unrealistic body standards. Hercules and the Hydra, a sculpture by Mathias Gasteiger, presents an image of masculinity through the expressive posture and form of Hercules once you look past those gleaming bronze pectorals, and into the intricate details of the piece.
More than 20 years of planning out this memorial they finally had everything picked out. Lei Yixin agreed to help by making and carving the statue, making this the 3 statue he has ever sculpted.
The Statue of Liberty, also known as Lady Liberty, for me is the most intriguing part of New York City. It is a symbol of hope, freedom, and a better life in the United States. It is widely known that Lady Liberty was the first thing immigrants saw when they came to America, this architectural structure was a symbol of hope and freedom. What intrigues me the most is, Why would France just give us a an expensive copper statue? I never understood this until right now, everyone knows what she symbolizes, she is the Statue of Liberty. The word 'liberty' is related to the word 'liberated', which means to free. For example, U.S. soldiers helped 'liberate' Jews from the concentration camps in Germany after World War 2. The statue was given to us to represent freedom, the concept on which our great country was born on. Not just any freedom, a true freedom, a freedom in which we are not subservient to a king. In a sense, we are being liberated from being servants to the kingdom. It is our country and we want to protect and defend it because we are fighting for a cause, not just some person who wears a crown because of the family he was born in to.
As we look to (Source F: Roadside America), we are forced to look upon the godly creation of a simple man that catches and sells lobsters for a living. The passage goes on to talk about how the statue was short of funding so they slapped on a layer of bronze. While this was a last attempt to finish the project, and by no means as majestic as the original design would have been, there is no argument that the bronze sculpture creates an unworldly image upon which we all can look. It would appear that all forms of monuments have to have an out-of-this-world arou to them. Seeing as the monument is honoring those who went above and beyond and did more than the typical person's expectations of life. It only makes sense that the constructions to show their actions was also above and beyond what typical human beings are usually displayed as. No matter what monument you decide to focus on, they are all in a way greater than life itself and create for an atmosphere of awe. The statues of men, the monuments for the moments of disparity in the country, the creations of wonder for those times of extreme success, they all are more than any other form of glorification, and rightfully
The Great Sphinx is a cultural artifact and a giant lion that was man-made from natural rock and it was designed in ancient times by Ancient Egyptians. It is a symbol that has represented the essence of Egypt for thousands of years and it is truly a mysterious marvel from the days of Ancient Egypt (The Great Sphinx of Giza, Guardian’s Sphinx). It has the body of a lion and a head of a god or king which symbolizes the wisdom and strength that the sphinx has (The Great Sphinx of Giza, Guardian’s Sphinx). This is an important structure that we will need to learn about because it represents the pharaohs and the kings, queens and the gods in Ancient Egypt. When we visit this, it is going to be spectacular to look at the real thing instead of just

In the late 19th century, the Seated Statue of Ramesses II was uncovered in the Temple of Harsaphes, Heracleopolis, by Sir William Flinders Petrie (Horne 1985, 22). Currently, it rests in the Mummies Gallery in the Egyptian section of the Penn Museum. The king sits heroically with his hands resting on his lap and wears the nemes headdress on his head. Made of quartzite sandstone, the statue sits at an impressive height of 226 cm, with a width of 74 cm and length of 149 cm. On his arms, there are faint traces of red and the nemes headdress has touches of blue and yellow. When it was originally crafted, the statue’s colors would have been more prominent than they currently are; there also would have been a false beard inset that has been lost to history.
Forty-two years after the unprecedented and tragic death of Demosthenes in Poseidon’s temple on the island of Calauria, the Athenians erected a bronze statue in his honor. The original however has been lost and the statue that we now is a later copy. The standing portrait of Demosthenes is a marble statue from the early Hellenistic period that is currently on display as part of the collection at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The statue is appropriately 2.02 m high, and is slightly larger than life-size. It is estimated that the original location of this portrait is Campania, where it was discovered in the 18th century. Like the original, this statue is a standing figure, and Demosthenes is shown with clasped hands.
