In this paper I will be discussing the purpose and function of the suer natural two for he epic tales we have read in this class. Firstly I would like to start with how the supernatural were a very vital part of The Epic of Gilgamesh and how the supernatural made the story have morals. Secondly I would like to discuss the latest epic we read in this class, a piece of the classic “The Thousand and One Nights” and how in the part of the story we read that the supernatural were also important characters in this story that helped move the story along and with out them the story would be lacking.

Firstly I am going to discuss “The Epic of Gilgamesh” in this story there are many supernatural creatures from the first moments of the epic they discus that Gilgamesh himself is part supernatural he is two thirds god “Gilgamesh was singled out from the day of his birth, two-thirds of him was divine, one third was human!” I think that the purpose of making him partly supernatural was to make him in a sense a little less obtainable for the average human, he was mostly god which made him strong and divine in a way no mortal human could ever understand but in a sense by keeping him human he wasn’t impossible to try to and obtain him a little just never all the way. No mortal man could go into a forester several months to search for and fight a gigantic demon like Gilgamesh did but I feel that every human at one point or another has questioned their humanity and their mortality like
