Ginkgo Biloba has two main pharmacologically active components: terpene lactone and ginkgo flavone glycosides(quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin). The flavone glycosides components acts like antioxidants, free radical scavenger, enzyme inhibitor which improves cerebral metabolism and protect brain tissue against cerebral hypoxia. Studies also shows that Ginkgo may improve cholinergictransmission to the brain through inhibition of acetylcholinesterase which thus have implication to Alzheimer
There are many herbal treatments available to patients, but few have been used longer than sambucas nigra, otherwise known as elder berry. Well known for its analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, laxative immune boosting qualities, elder berry has been used for multiple health alterations (Ulbricht, Basch, Cheung, Goldberg, Hammerness, Isaac, &...Wortley, 2014). In this paper the background, pharmacology, contraindications, current research and recommendations for use regarding elder berries will be discussed. Elder berries are a versatile fruit that has multiple applications in the healthcare field, warranting an increased role in patient care.

This study will investigate and test how some medications can smooth the progressive advance of the Alzheimer in patients with more than 70 years. Alzheimer which is a degenerative disease of the neuro system due to memory loss is still being very questionable and debated. As of today there is no cure, nor reversal for the disease. Many researchers are still studding and looking for therapies and medication that can stop or reverse the development of the disease. It is very important to prove that some medications can help to cope with the disease. In my study I will be able to demonstrate
As aging is becoming a worldwide phenomenon, polyphenols have gained interest as potentially modifiable protective factors against neural diseases, such as dementia. The risk factors of cognitive function decline are not comprehensive, while the mechanisms may involve oxidative stress and inflammation. Epidemiological evidence shows that food contained flavonoid, which antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is associated with a lower risk of neurodegenerative disorders and better cognitive evolution of the performance in the elderly(60). Although animal models are more properly used to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of the neuroprotective effects of Vaccinium berries, there
and the ANC (Terblanche, 2016). Bias in the media is the perception that the press is reporting the news in a prejudiced and non objective manner. This falls under one of the three principles of the role of media, honest reporting. According to Windschuttle, the role of the media can be characterised by 3 principles: Honest reporting; Adhering to the ethical obligations that bound them to the listener, viewer and reader; Lastly, commitment to good writing (Windshuttle, 1997). The role of the media is extended to informing the public of what they need to know in order to make decisions. The guard dog theory is a common way to describe the way mass media and journalists support various political views and groups but can also criticise the same groups when they violate the values they promised to adhere to. The theory claims that the idea of the guard dog is found in the middle ground between the ‘lap dog’ and the ‘watch dog’. They are neither entirely subservient to the powerful entities that control them nor completely serve the publics best interests (Akumey-Affizie, 2017) Most of the headlines from The Daily Maverick, The Citizen, The Huffington Post, and Time Live reflected the President and his decision in a negative light, with rare glimpses of positivity from newspapers like The New Age. Media coverage and the way they frame their stories directly affect the opinion and response of the public.
John’s Wort, thus activating brain neurotransmission and counteracting depression. Other scientists argue that hyperforin and hypericin concentrations in common supplement dosages are too low to penetrate the brain deeply enough to influence brain neurotransmission (Enna and Norton).
Ginseng is a perennial plant that is used as medicine in many places in Asia such as China, Korea and Thailand for thousands of years. It was shown that frequent consumption benefits a lot of different medical conditions, and it is also believed to be able to increase vitality and leads to long life span (Yadav, 2017).
As of now, there is no evidence showing that these therapies have the ability to slow the development of mental decline. Some treatments have been found to prolong the effects of Alzheimers. Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the many. Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil help prevent cognitive decline. These are a clan of polyunsaturated fatty acids occasionally referred to ( n-3 fatty acids), this term describes their communal chemical structure. The omega-3 fatty acids differ in span from the shorter alpha-linolenic acid to the long-chain eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid . Another treatment is Curcumin. This herb comes from the turmeric also this herb has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant belongings that affect chemical developments in the brain. Clinical hearings have not yet to create any benefits for treating Alzheimer's disease. And lastly Ginkgo. Ginkgo is a herbal extract that contains several substances that are thought to be possible benefit in
Current medications for dementia are limited and there is a need to explore traditional medicinal system to investigate the agents that can prevent progression of memory loss or improve the existing capacity of learning and memory. Thus present study was carried out to evaluate the effects of Ayurveda drug formulations, Tinospora cordifolia (Tc) & Phyllanthus emblica (Pe) with and without Ocimum sanctum (Os) on learning performance and memory of mice. We also tried to investigate the possible mechanisms of these plant drugs for their effects on learning and memory using Scopolamine, Diazepam and Cyclosporine as amnesic agents.
Awareness is necessary in understanding this disease. As humans continue to live longer, the risk for many illness and deficiencies begin to present them. Alzheimer’s and dementia is one of the many problems that plague the aging population. Understanding brain aging and reducing risk for neurological disease with age requires searching for mechanisms and treatment options beyond the age-related changes in neuronal
Flavones are in various plants, including acai, strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Flavones are the main type of flavonoid found in cocoa and chocolate. Flavones have many positive effects on a person’s health, such as lowering blood pressure, improving blood flow to the brain and heart, and making blood platelets less sticky and able to clot. In fact, some studies have shown that cocoa and dark chocolate have more polyphenols, antioxidants, and flavones than some of the “powerhouse” fruit- acai and blueberry (Gunnars) Confirming one of the many reasons eating chocolate, in moderation, is known to help not only improve people’s mood, but also their
Besides Ginkgo Leaf Extract, Folic Acid, Ashwagandha Root Extract, N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine and Acetyl L-Carnitine and L-Theanine, Cogniforce also contains ingredients that are vital in preventing brain shrinkage and cognitive decline.
If one were to ask my friends what stands out about me, they would immediately refer to the strange dichotomy that exists within me. On the one hand, both of my parents are agronomists and have spent their entire lives trying to improve the yield of the plants that feed the world. On the other hand, I don’t want to follow them--I want to study government. At the same time, I have a serious fascination with the obscurities that connect plants, such as the fact that Balsa trees share a taxonomic family with the Marsh Mallow, the plant from whose root the fluffy treat of the same name was originally derived. Yet my greatest fascination lies in the Ginkgo tree. Ginkgoes are not adapted to modern life at all. In fact, Ginkgo biloba is more than
Herbal medicines are great alternative for commercially manufactured medicines available in the market. The major reason why herbal medicine differ from modern medicine is because they are produced with 100% natural content. Therefore the plant extract has all the medicinal values that are as effective as modern medicine. Commercially prepared drugs show results quickly but have numerous side effects. However herbal medicines don’t show any side
