Girl Scout cookies are a time-honored tradition in America, but unfortunately they are only available once a year. To compete with Girl Scout cookies, other cookie companies, such as Keebler, have designed their own version of Girl Scout cookies. These cookies are sold year-round and are cheaper than actual Girl Scout cookies. This sounds like an exceptional deal for people and it should take business away from the Girl Scouts, however that is not the case. Despite being more expensive and only available once a year, Girl Scout cookies still remain the number one cookie choice. People still choose traditional Girl Scout cookies over the knockoff cookies because they believe that you cannot top the true Girl Scout cookies. Just like Girl …show more content…
The purpose of going to college is to get an education, regardless of playing sports. According to D. S. Eitzen, “The universities and the NCAA claim their athletes in big-time sports programs are amateurs and, despite the money generated, the NCAA and its member schools are amateur organizations promoting an educational mission” (n.pg.). If college athletes were paid, they would be more focused on excelling in their sport than school. It is important that college athletes focus on their education to prepare themselves for their future career, since most will not become professional athletes. While it is essential for athletes to focus on their education, they also need to focus on their sport because they are student-athletes, not strictly students. The most successful student-athletes keep the perfect balance between athletics and academics. If the NCAA added a salary to these student-athletes lives’, the balance in their lives would be disrupted and they would be less successful. In March of 2016, the NCAA President, Mark Emmert, stated, “‘Our view is that this is about student-athletes playing other student-athletes, not employees playing employees’” (Karaim “College Athletics”). College athletes are not employees, therefore their sole focus should not be on earning a salary for playing their sport. The NCAA does not want to pay athletes because it believes that by paying college athletes they will be taking the focus away from balancing academics and athletics. Even though the NCAA should not pay college athletes, they should be compensated for dedicating their time to the university in both academics and
The hot topic in amateur sports has been as to whether or not college athletes should be paid. The NCAA amateur rule states that an athlete in college sports cannot be paid other than their athletic scholarship. These athletes spend a tremendous amount of time at school practice and then working on schoolwork after practice. The NCAA is an organization that oversees all of the athletes that make up the basic unit of intercollegiate sports. The success of the NCAA whether it’s through the sale of merchandise, game day revenue or NCAA tournaments that each individual sports has, despite the absolute success of these tournaments these athletes receive any monetary compensation .Some of the main reasons why the NCAA lack of payments are that it wants to maintain its amateur status and
er: Should girls be allowed into the boy scouts? In 2018, The Boy Scouts of America whom were founded in 1910 will navigate into uncharted waters and allow girls to join their 107-year-old club and no secret password in needed for entry. The BSA for short, was established to give boys and young men a place to together learn responsibility, self-reliance and participate in activities that enable them to develop the characteristics that would enable them to be community leaders, proud fathers and handy husbands. The prestigious honor to reach the level of Eagle Scout is well recognized and should be due to the long hours of hard work and dedication put into the achievement. However, girls and boys are fundamentally different and girls should not be allowed to join the ranks of the Boy
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) makes roughly $1 billion in income annually and the athletes do not receive any of it. This topic has been debated for many years and is still being debated. The debate dates back to the 1980s and now athletes are demanding that they deserve to be paid since profits are made off of them. Some athletes such as former and current basketball and football players came together with lawsuits to federal courts asking for rewards from profits NCAA makes gets of them. Research has opened several different opinions on this matter. There are many pros and cons for paying college athletes. College sports provide a huge source of the university’s income. The athletes, however, receive their scholarship
I hope everyone had an amazing Troop “Boot-Camp” and Leadership weekend. I want to thank all the adults that were able to oversee and guide. Now moving away from this weekend, I am here to primarily talk about my Eagle Scout project.
Throughout the years college sports have been about the love of the game, filled with adrenaline moments. However, the following question still remains: Should college athletes get paid to play sports in college? Seemingly, this debate has been endless, yet the questions have gone unanswered. The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) plays a vital role in this debate. The NCAA is a billion dollar industry, but yet sees that the athlete should get paid for their hard work and dedication.
College sports is a multi-billion dollar industry. Each year thousands of high school students are recruited to play college sports, but under strict conditions. Students are required to do well in athletics while keeping up with their academics. College athletes spend up to forty five hours per week on practices, training, and games. In addition, they spend roughly forty hours on their academics. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) does not think it is necessary to pay these athletes because they want to maintain the “amateur sport” status. According to Stanley Eitzen in his “College Athletes should be Paid, “The universities and the NCAA claim their athletes in big-time sports programs
We often forget that playing a sport is not the only way to earn a scholarship. Many students are accepted for exceptional grades, involvement in the band, clubs, or being well rounded. Most of these students just have to study to keep their scholarship, while the athletes have to work hard and be a student. In a competitive market, “workers” are paid according to the value of the output they produce (Heath). It does not seem right that the college journalist can sell their piece to a paper for extra cash, or the local band can play for a few dollars at the bar Saturday night, or the biology major that takes an internship at the school lab can be profitable yet college athletes cannot. Under the NCAA they are not allowed to make any money of their skill. Any college student should be able to endorse products (Wilbon). This is why the idea of going to school for free should not be an argument against paying athletes, because that is not the case and they have earned it.
College athletes should not be paid. “ They argue that the main purpose of going to college is to get a education, not to make money” (“Should college”...1). College is not a job, it is a place to learn. Also many college athletes receive scholarships to attend that school. “The value of the scholarships athletes receive during four years of college can be well over $250,000” (Weiss et al.1). Therefore, athletes
"I’ve got something for the girls of Savannah, and all America, and all the world, and we’re going to start it tonight" (Juliette). This was how the unexpected founder Juliette Low started the girl scouts. Juliette was born Juliette Gordon Low on October 31, 1860 in Savannah, Georgia. She was the second of six children and never had any children of her own on the contrary, she had no problem working with children and helping them. She was deaf in both ears and had several other misfortunes in her life, however, instead of feeling guilt-ridden for herself, she went and created one of the leading scouts in the world today (Juliette). By opening up new opportunities for young girls, Juliette Low changed the values of her time and the way people
I have been an active member of Girl Scouts of America for 11 years. Within my troop we participate in coordinating events for local Girl Scouts and their families, sell cookies, nuts, and magazines annually, as well as participate in community service. Some of the community service events we participate in include, making Easter baskets for the local Women's Haven, making and sending Christmas gifts to our troops overseas and veterans, making and serving food at the Salvation Army, as well as providing hygiene and snack bags for each person we serve, and we recently provided care packs to be sent to the families in the Butte County area that were affected by the recent wildfires that California experienced last year. Also, my Girl Scout troop actively camps and advocates the preservation of the wilderness.
It is an age old debate on whether a college athlete should be paid. It is a high school student 's dream to play sports at the collegiate level. Many people question why the NCAA, coaches, and administrators are allowed to earn large amounts of money while the student athlete’s hard work and efforts are limited to a scholarship. Others feel that is should be considered a privilege that a college athlete can earn a college degree while enjoying what they love, by playing collegiate sports. Student athletes should not receive payment because they are already receiving payment in the form of an expensive athletic scholarship and are also able to receive the new cost of attendance stipend to assist with further financial burdens.

The Girl Scout of the USA mission is “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.” This past March was a hundred years since girl scouts was started, thanks to Ms. Low. On March 16, 1960, GSUSA was charted by the U.S. Congress.
I have been recently looking over your company that makes two different types of cookies, sugar and chocolate chip cookies which are always in demand. What a great product to sell, everyone loves cookies. But as of recently, I went over your numbers and found some data that you should be aware of.
Girl Scouts is a common program, in which many people place their girls in. It was started by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 and now has over 1.8 million Girl Scouts. She came up with the concept while volunteering in England with the Girl Guides. She soon formed the program in order uplift, empower and give back. The Girl Scouts organization was known for being about their cookies, but after rebranding they are known for their causes. The organization’s impact on the community and young women’s lives makes a difference. Most young women who has experienced his organization has had success in their career, or advancements in their skills. Girl Scouts has faced branding obstacles. However, they have overcome them and maintained their focus on their number one priority; the betterment of young women. In this paper, we will further discuss the background, the brand, the obstacles faced, and the structured beliefs and values of the organization.
