I am writing on behalf of Giulia Vastano. It has been my pleasure to get to know her this year as her English instructor at Father Ryan High School. She is enrolled in Advanced Composition and Film Studies and is excelling in both. Both classes are centered on writing and critical analysis, and Giulia is definitely a leader in class discussions and her grasp of critical concepts shows in her papers. She is not afraid to take chances with her writing and gets to the core of her topic quickly. I think her writing has improved because of her love of reading. Giulia is a voracious reader. She enjoys the study of foreign languages, has traveled overseas, and is a true Disney enthusiast. She is very involved with the band and an overall asset to
Throughout the course of freshmen year I have developed different skills and opinions on writing. I feel I have created a more mature style of writing and a better understanding of literature. I have changed my view of writing over this semester and acquired a strong liking for it. The importance of writing has become more visible throughout the past few months. Writing is crucial in many aspects of a person’s life. I have grown to be a more powerful and well built writer throughout this course.
Magaly is, without question, the best writer of her junior class. This is a sentiment that is echoed amongst my colleagues. Ever since I read her first essay in 2014, Magaly’s writing has always been executed at an undergraduate level. She is a careful and creative thinker with an eye for detail. Magaly has a knack to articulate her thoughts and arguments in such a manner that I truly enjoy reading her essays. She also has an expansive vocabulary that serves her well in her writing.
This class has been a stepping stone to my accomplishments as a writer. Over the course of semester, I have been challenged to tackle several different writing styles and succeed in each one in a unique way. It is through the rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration used in this class that has progressed me as a writer and an individual.
I began writing with basic vocabulary and barely any sentence variety. As the year progressed, I learned to advance my vocabulary and word choice in addition to incorporating a diversity of sentence structure. Nearing the end of the school year, I acknowledge that I have grown and learned more about writing. I anticipate that I will receive even more arduous writing assignments that require more research and time. Although it will be challenging, I feel confident that I will do well because I feel well prepared from all I’ve done this year. As I grow older, I will have to continue to write. I know I can take the knowledge I’ve learned this year and apply it to future papers for years to
The past two semesters were great experiences. Within this past school year my knowledge as a reader and writer has improved. It felt like it was just yesterday, when I had a lot of difficulty writing and poor reading strategies. Now, as I said before, I am an improved writer and reader. The assignments and class activities over the two semesters were great benefits to me, and helped me make progress towards the first year learning goals.
This semester has taught me a lot about the different types of writing. I have learned how to draft and compose a rhetorical analysis based off of an author’s ethos, pathos, and logos strategies. Not only have I been able to critically analyze rhetorical papers, but I have been able to search for more information to support my ideas or beliefs. Even though this can be time consuming it is well worth it to have a lot of support and evidence to back my ideas or beliefs on a topic. Throughout this semester I have more of a general knowledge on rhetorical goals, critical reading and writing skills, my processes on how to write a paper, and learning a new way of creating an idea through electronical environments.
Before beginning to teach the new writing strategies to Kemoni and the rest of the class, I will work with all the learning-disabled students to improve their phonics, spelling, and grammar skills. Because the students are older and have some language and reading comprehension deficits, the class will begin to work on their comprehension skills by incorporating reading pause and reflect techniques. I will assign short reading passages for homework and the students will be required to read, jot down the main idea and supporting ideas, and write a brief summary. Also, I will re-teach some basic phonics lessons which will help students to think when they come to unfamiliar words. Strengthening these skills will help students to become stronger
Working a full-time job, raising children, and attending college are all not easy tasks, as many would agree. As a parent, I have difficulties in managing and prioritizing my time. Hence, I am forced to sacrifice many things, including my social life and spending quality time with my family. This semester I had to cope with many personal issues, including focusing on my English 1100 class. Amidst all that I am very grateful to my instructor McCaughey. Not only has he been super supportive but also definitely helped me grow as a writer. With his style of teaching and as well as a motivator, I tackled my writing issues. Through this class, I gained confidence and was able to learn about how to develop my ideas in a writing process .I learned
As this semester comes to a close, I have become to realize how much I’ve grown as a writer. After taking this class, I have noticed that I have gained more and more of a voice in my writing. When faced with having to write about subjective topics, I have learned how to voice my opinions in papers in order to make them more effective. My writing has greatly evolved because of this class. Not only has it shown me I have to work on sentence variety, but it has also allowed me to work on word choice which is something I have always struggled with throughout my high school career. Struggling with how to put things into words as exactly how I see them has been a struggle for me throughout this course. Despite how much I’ve grown as writer, I have
A learner’s ability to communicate effectively through writing to his/her target audiences is a major prerequisite for academic success. It is also a major pillar of success in one’s career across all areas of practice. Even though, writing clearly is critical to one’s academic and career success, I have not always loved writing. In fact, for a long time I despised writing. At one point, I had a feeling that my writings skills were bound to remain stagnated throughout my life. However, time has proven that I was wrong. My attitude and outlook towards virtually all genres of writing has changed positively. The various helpful methods I have been exposed to by my English teachers through different grades have helped me
During this second semester, I learned about many techniques that enhanced my writing. I cannot believe that my first year of college is over because it seems like yesterday I attended my first class. I will use this techniques throughout the rest of my life to make my paper stronger and more professional. As I continue to learn I will add techniques I learn in the future to make my writing even stronger. I believe my writing is strong, but can
This semester I was surprised by how much I actually learned and developed my writing skills. I was given the opportunity to learn the many steps that it is required to become a good writer. Writing requires a lot of work. It consists of various steps; prewriting, drafting, rewriting, proofreading and publishing. . All of these components are extremely important, and necessary, and will need to be follow to improve student’s writing.
Writing is essential to everyone ranging from grade-schoolers to adults. We use what we learn throughout our whole lives, and gradually improve along the way. Now looking back at and going through previous assignments I can surely reflect. These writings include our letters to the class of 2016, personal narratives, informative composition, process analysis composition, and several smaller pieces of writing.
During this unit, my academic literacy has advanced greatly. After analysis from writers diet and paper rater. I have evaluated the results & comments and taken them into consideration as to work on my weaknesses. Throughout The semester I have acted on refining my writing via the use of online tasks, weekly readings, smart- thinking tool and peer guidance.
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
