Benefiting and Giving Back to the Community Making a difference and giving back to the community are one of the reasons why I enjoy volunteering for services. Growing up, I have always had a dream of becoming a doctor. To be the change, find cures, and help others to live a healthier life. Over the past years (Gr: 7-8), I have gained over 150 ours of service. This year I already have over 200 hours of service. From volunteering to help the community there are many benefits, not only for myself but also for others. Bringing people together is one of the benefits I have gained. As Soroctomist Club’s Vice president, there are many leadership skills I need. One of them are reaching out to the community to find services for the S-Club’s members. With a very big help from Mr. Fong, S-Club’s advisor. I have found that helping the Franciscan Day Care has brought the elderly’s together. I remember when I first started to volunteer for this event, some of the elderly’s didn't get along with each other. I sat down and played games with them, in the end they got along really well. I learned to be more confident and open up to others, getting out of my comfort zone. I discovered my hidden talents, I am very shy in the beginning but when I open up to others, I make a difference. I strengthen the community. I also help beautify the community by being apart of the Leo Club. I am able to attend many beach clean ups and learn how much just one bottle can affect our community. Supporting the youth, I volunteer for “Big Brothers Big Sisters”, which I go to Aliliolani School every Wednesday after school. I get to know the young students and help better there lives. Volunteering for YAP also comes in really handy. I enjoy this event because I brightened up the children’s with Down Syndrome. Learning that saying the words “Good Job” can make there life so much
