Sometimes after so much struggle, giving up seems like the right thing to do, but it shouldn’t be an option. Many times after working so hard on something we really want, we stop and settle for what we have. In the chapter “Beast from Water” from the book Lord of the Flies, William Golding states “I ought to give up being chief” (93). Although, there’s times were we might feel like we’ve done it all and it’s just not we should continue until we’ve reached the outcome we wanted. Sometimes it takes more than one try to accomplish we set forth to achieve. Golding states, “If you give up, said Piggy, in an appalled whisper, what’ud happen to me” (93)? Giving up could mean letting others that look up to us down not just that but letting ourselves
Perserverance is the Steady effort to maintain a course of action, purpose, or belief, of in spite of difficulty. Perserverance could have a example like a job, someone could have beem gave a task that is hard, but with belief to do it, it can be accomplished. As perserverance is used, it can be applied in media, literature, and personal expericene.
Explorer Edmund Hillary once said “I think it all comes down to motivation. If you really want to do something, you will work hard for it.” Being driven allows people to stay on their track until they get what they achieve. In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth was motivated to become the king. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Jack kept his goal of becoming the leader of the island, and stuck with it throughout their time on the island. Although intelligence allows one to be in power, motivation is more important for attaining power because it allows one to keep trying until they achieve what is desired.
When a group of people is stranded on an island, it is very easy to lose hope, even if rescue is very close. People never know when something will happen, especially if no one knows to do it. In the young adult novel, Lord of the flies, William Golding writes the events that happen to a group of kids, with varying personalities, who are stranded on an island, and how their personalities affect the outcomes. A message saying to never give up is effectively shown leading up to the conclusion because the boys are very close to being rescued, but they do not know it, then the conch breaks, which symbolizes the loss of the social structure that has been developed. After that, Jack’s group becomes savage and hunts Ralph, but shortly after that, a naval officer appears.
In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys got stranded on an island and had to take care of themselves and survive until rescued. The boys were exhilarated for adventure, didn’t consider getting rescued, and thrilled to have no adults around. While there were many different personalities such as compassionate, intelligent, and savage, Ralph can be best described as the most determined one on the island. Determined means to have made a firm decision and being resolved not to change it, and Ralph was a very determined person. Ralph’s strong determination was to get rescued and remain civilized. However his determination faced many conflicts achieving it.
When humans are pushed to survive, they are willing to do anything to do so. In the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, a group of boys are stranded on an island and have to survive, however as the story progresses the boys become more barbaric and savage like. Even though there are good people in this world, there will always be evil. Why does evil exist? Golding’s belief of human nature is that humans are naturally evil and savage. However, law and civility keep humans from turning into this natural state of evil and Golding uses the development of Jack to show how savagery is created.
To begin,Lord of the flies shows us that man is inherently evil because death is not given importance and is seen as normal. As a reader we do not know how familiar the boys were with death. The first major death in the novel was Simons death, which truly shows the evil feelings and actions of the boys. The boys were having a nightly crazy feast in the beach after succesfully hunting a pig. They were dancing around the fire with spears in hand like savages.Simon was just coming back to them after discovering the the beast they feared was just a dead pilot. As Simon is running down towards them in the dark to tell them his discovery they crazy boys believing it was the beast stabbed him to death.Moments later discovering that the dead body floating
A distressing emotion aroused by impending evil and pain, whether the threat is real or imagined is described as fear. Fear is what William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies encompasses. By taking three major examples from the novel, fear will be considered on different levels: Simon’s having no instance of fear, Ralph’s fear of isolation on the island, and Jack’s fear of being powerless. Fear can make people behave in ways that are foreign to them, whether their fear is real or imagined. In response to fear, people may act defensively by attacking, fear can either stop one from doing something, or it can make one behave in an irrational erratic manner.
According to the American government, at age 18 one will be recognized as an adult, but emerging brain science suggests that most people don't reach full maturity until the age 25. Throughout the book Lord of the Flies, the British boys on the island will have to mentally grow up and take responsibility for their own hands because of the absences of adults to take care of them; the children faced a struggle because they had not mastered many essential skills needed to take charge of each other, many lacked patience, resilience, and accountability. The process in which the young boys had to engage in to get rescued was long and required time and effort, many of the kids lacked patience. In order to acquire the skill patience they first had to understand that “things you want in life do not always come as soon as you wish them to; they have to be worked for and waited for at times”, many wanted result
Being stranded on a deserted island with people not knowing how to survive is the exact scenario the boys in Lord of the Flies were in. Lord of the flies is about stranded boys and how they lived on an island as savages. The island was completely deserted .The boys formed a government. The kids made the government so they could live peaceful and survive on the deserted island.
I think there is a message about hope, too. The "fire" that the father passes on to his son to keep burning surely can be said to refer to hope in humanity, which is a hope that never dies throughout this excellent novel. It is interesting too that at various stages it is the boy that keeps his father from turning savage like the humans around them. It is his love and belief in others that prevent his father from losing his humanity. Thus I think another important message is how love and relationships keep us human and prevent us giving in to our darker, more savage and evil
When someone is stressed out because of a situation they are in, they will most likely make decisions that are not beneficial for others. These decisions may result in emotional or physical injury or even death; for example, in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a plane has crashed on a remote island that nobody probably knows exists. The plane had young boys aboard, with the oldest being twelve years old. There is no obvious way to get back home, which is thousands of miles away in England. They have been put in a situation they have never been in before, surviving with no adults. They seem happy at first with the circumstances, but then it takes a turn for the worst. William Golding conveys that life or death situations with
“Let him be chief with the trumpet thing” (22-23, Golding). In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys crash land on an island far away from society and create their own in order to survive until rescued. Ralph, Jack, Piggy, Simon, and all the boys who survive the crash gather together to find a way to work together and survive on the island. During the novel there is an ongoing battle between Jack who turns savage by living in the open, hunting and ruthless killing, and Ralph, the chief, wants to keep a civilized society with rules and jobs. For example if you have the conch you are allowed to speak. As Jack and Ralph gather followers to enhance their cause, they all experience moral battles
We have all failed several times, and sometimes we have given up. One of the most famous chocolate makers in history failed many times, but he never gave up on his dream.
The choices a person makes are what forms their identity. Sometimes there can be grey area between what is right and what it wrong. But a lot of times there is clearly a right choice and a wrong choice. The ability to differentiate the two and choose the write one is a skill not the lot people have. Throughout the Lord of the Flies everyone is constantly making choices and I think what Golding was trying to show is that humans are naturally drawn to choose the bad
Over the course of time we as people have experienced adversity and the effects that come from it. Adversity can have positive and negative impacts, many times when people struggle with adversity, it leads to chaos. We have seen this in the present, past and fiction. Adversity is shown in the present in form of a natural disaster, for example, the earthquake in Iran, adversity is seen in the past, explorers faced it, we also see adversity in the book Lord of The Flies by, William Golding. All of these examples show how adversity can have a negative impact that can turn peaceful societies into chaos.
