Global chocolate shortages coming, what will need to be done about alternatives and economic effects? The situation of global chocolate always causes wide attention since 2007. As could be seen in figure 1 and 2, it seems that the situation of chocolate shortages is a recent problem. The peak of this trend showed in November 2014. According to Walters (2015, p.4), chocolate shortage is happened all over the world. It is believed that this situation might get worse by chocolate makers. It was predicted that the deficit of chocolate could attain more than a million tons in 2020. The shortages of global chocolate could causes lager effects in many fields such as social, economic and food industrial field because chocolate is a very popular food or raw material. In this report, some results would be enumerated and compared by the empirical evidences to discuss what would need to be done for facing global chocolate shortages. The discussion consisted by factors of reasons, the economic effects and some alternatives of chocolate. Firstly, the major reasons of global chocolate shortages are cocoa shortages and over consumption. It has a close relationship between them that cocoa bean is a basis of chocolate. Climate changes and pestilence in Africa which is a chief producer, was culprit. It needs about two to five years to get new cacao tress to produce new cocoa beans.
