Did you know that the United States is the largest source for global warming pollution (NRDC)? Although American’s make up only 4 percent of the world’s population, we still produce 25 percent of the carbon dioxide pollution (NRDC). That is more than China, India, and Japan combined (NRDC). There is a huge debate on whether or not global warming exists, but there is an even bigger debate on what the cause of this climate change is. I argue that with the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, humans play a huge part in the causation of global warming.
There are many definitions for global warming, but there is one common definition that many scientists can agree on. Global warming is “an increase in the earth 's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution” (Merriam-Webster). It is believed to be caused by many gases gathering together, creating a thick blanket in the earth’s atmosphere, and raising the earth’s temperature. According to S.M. Enzler MSc, Svante Arrhenius suggested in 1896, there would be a relationship between the carbon dioxide concentration on earth and its temperature. Arrhenius then did research with Thomas Chamberlin and predicted that human activities and their release of carbon dioxide would warm up the earth’s atmosphere (en. Enzler). They predicated then that humans would have a huge influence on the climate change. After a while the topic of
According to the Washington Post, the U.S. “has caused more global warming than any other country” (Moony, 2015). The increase in ocean levels and in average global temperature is in a large part, due to the U.S. The Washington Post states that even though China has surpassed the U.S. in emissions of CO2 per year, the U.S. far outnumbers any other country in total greenhouse gas emissions released, being responsible for 27% of all CO2 emissions between the years 1850 and 2011; the second largest contributor of CO2 emissions is China, who is responsible for 11% (Mooney, 2015). The United States is responsible for over a quarter of the CO2 emissions throughout history, which is a heavy burden to bear. Instead of pointing fingers at other countries, the U.S. government and population must act to minimize their contribution to global
Nowadays, Global warming is an incontrovertible fact, which proves that our planet and its climate are in trouble. Well global warming is a term that denotes a slow warming of the earth’s regular temperature. It was also named exclusively man-made effects, in particular carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide has largely increased during the past forty years, and scientists concluded that the average earth temperature has increased solely based on man-made activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, respiration of living organisms, cultivation of land, decay of dead organisms and deforestation. The study of global warming involves many sciences in order to examine the causes of global warming and try to find
The concept of global warming has become one of the most widely debated and controversial topics of our time. Scientists learned long ago that the earth’s climate has powerfully shaped the history of humanity. However, it is only in the past few decades that research has revealed that humans have a significant influence on the climate as well. A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that since 1950, the world’s climate has been warming, primarily as a result of emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of tropical forests. More importantly, an article titled "Global Warming" published in the New York Times shows that methane, a gas that is emitted from landfills, livestock and oil gas facilities,
“Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth 's atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate” (Goguen). Day-to-day, fossil-fuels are being burned; humans are deforesting land, driving cars, creating and demolishing buildings, and much more; these activities result in the release of greenhouse gases (Goguen). Architects are now being awakened by global warming issues and are planning ideas to alter their designs to reduce carbon emissions for future buildings. Correspondingly, colleges are beginning to prepare architecture students on how to design buildings that are carbon-neutral, and educating them on the
55.03 BTU and when coupled in 2009 they account for 58.2% of the total energy consumption in the United States. Figure 1, however, only shows the data available from the United States, but if in the US the consumption is so high the how will it be in countries like China or India that are more densely populated and as such consume more energy. Considering that the sources for their energy must be very similar if not the same than the sources in the United States, then this creates a very grim picture for the world. With so many countries consuming energy with no apparent control the world keeps getting more and more contaminated and the while effects are minimal in first-world countries, where they can even be neglected, third-world countries are not so lucky.
Global warming is the term used to describe the increase in the Earth 's atmosphere and oceans temperature, which is believed to be permanently changing the Earth 's climate (LiveScience). The temperature of the Earth 's atmosphere is rising because greenhouse gases are being trapped in the atmosphere, which in turn in also trapping heat in the atmosphere, not able to escape (Scott, 2009). Global warming is a severe problem for the Earth because it causes the regular temperatures to rise, and interferes with ecosystems all over the world, possibly destroying them, if not altering their system. Scientists have reported that the world is heating up even faster than predicted a few years before (Scott, 2009).
Global warming is phenomena linked to temperature rising because of emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases. It is one of the most important debates of today because of the seriousness of its impact on life on earth. The issue though is debated for its being just a reality or as a theory. Scientists are of the view and they provide evidence as well to support their argument that industrialization and energy utilization has the caused emissions of certain gases in our atmosphere. Those emissions are causing the temperature rise globally. So, in one way or the other, humans are cause of this trouble to the planet earth. They say that the rising temperature is melting glaciers and rising water level which would cause floods. On the other
Global warming is a subject that elicits different opinions, even in the political sphere. During the 2016 presidential campaign, the Democratic candidates all declare that global warming is a national crisis and that some policies need to be implemented. On the other hand, the majority of the Republican candidates claims that global warming is all a hoax and that designing policies to combat global warming are a waste of money and energy. The different stances happening in the political sphere are also happening outside of the political sphere. Everyone in the world has different views on global warming, but very few of us did anything to lessen the impact of global warming in that the majority of us each drive our own fossil fuel-using vehicles instead of using public transportation, and the majority of us rarely reuses and recycle. Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trap heat in Earth 's atmosphere because some of the sun 's rays cannot escape. It is a worldwide phenomenon that impacts each and every one of us because it cause irregular climate patterns, increases the sea levels, and decreases human living standards.
Global Warming has been devastating the earth and economy for the last twenty-five years. Greenhouse gases developed from the production of chemicals such as R-22, oil, and factories have been destroying o-zone and ecosystems. Carbon dioxide is developed naturally and absorbed by plants and animals, but, too much, and it good be deadly. With the increase in automobiles and production, the world government has begun to address the issue of greenhouse gases with limits and requirements for larger nations, with higher impacts of production and driving. The effects of greenhouse gases and global warming should be a major concern for society because the increased temperatures have caused degradation of permafrost, ozone to deplete, ocean levels and temperatures to rise, and promotes uncontrolled growth of plants and species causing some to become extinct.
Global warming is a naturally occurring phenomenon within our planet that needs to be reduced because it is affecting us in many harmful ways. It is one of the most current and widely discussed factors. It has been impacting us negatively in ways such as biodiversity and climate conditions. Several current trends clearly demonstrate that global warming is directly impacting on rising sea levels, the melting of ice caps and significant worldwide climate changes. Over the years, scientists have conducted experiments to understand the causes and effects of global warming and they have searched for solutions. They have warned others about the dangers of pollution and human activities and have urged others to do something about it. In short, global warming represents a threat to all living things on earth.
Global warming is one of the vigorously discussed topic on Earth today. According to a TechMedia Network, “Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate.” (“Global Warming … Effects”). We have been witnessing the change in Earth’s climate since past few years, and we are well aware of the consequences of climate change as well. Global warming has managed to list itself as one of the biggest problem in the world, and according to the researchers and scientists, the ones promoting this problem are humans and their activities. Global warming is not listed as biggest problem of the world
Over the last few decades global warming has become one of the biggest environmental issues of all times. Every year, global warming gets worse and it’s affecting the way people live, it is affecting the atmosphere in general, and other living organisms in our planet. Global warming is the gradual and increasing rise of the overall temperature of the Earth caused by the greenhouse effect due to the increased levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants.
Global warming is one of the most alarming and pressing issues that the world faces today. Global warming is the rise of the earth’s temperature over time. The damaging effects of global warming have become more and more apparent, with more tropical storms and hurricanes causing massive destruction, more animal species losing their habitats and coming under threat, rising sea levels, etc.
Global warming is already taking place. It stopped being a prediction. The temperature at the earth’s surface has averagely increased by around 0.60 C.Both the oceans and the air are warming. It is believed that the greenhouses gases’ concentrations in the atmosphere have increased dramatically since the periods of pre-industrialization. This condition is caused by the activities of human beings most especially through the burning of fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil, and coal (Wang & Chameides 1). Deforestation is also another cause. This essay will discuss what global warming is, its causes and effects.
Global warming, the growth in world population and the continual increase in quantity of waste globally are serious environment issues and as a result, the public perception towards waste and waste to energy generation cannot be over emphasised. Improving public participation will go a long way to reducing the effects of waste combustion on the environment.
