A big question is climate change a hazard to future generations? Climate change is and always will be a hazard to future generations and not just for human beings, but for all kinds of species. The comprehension to accept it, is a hazard that species that cannot adapt to the change in climate are more likely become extinct. Luckily, human beings are masters of adaptability. Because our own evolution is a reason for climate change and our capability to adapt. After all, the hazards are always there should we ever fail to adapt fast enough. Our climate is always changing, both naturally and due to human effect on the environment. There were already beyond doubt, proof that animals, birds, and plants are being affected by climate change.

Global Warming is an increase in the average temperature around the world. Scientists have been able to trace the global climate and concluded that over the last ten thousand years, the climate of the earth has been relatively constant. In the twentieth century, the global temperature increased 0.740°C. The change in the warming, and cooling, of average global temperatures cause climate change, a change related to climate patterns such as temperatures, rainfall, wind and humidity. This flux in temperature is affected by multiple factors making it hard to determine the true source of problem. Evidence supports that the earth's warming is natural; however, some data indicates that the warming trend has increased due to human activity.

Former United States Vice President Al Gore became interested in global warming during his years at Harvard University studying under Professor Roger Revelle. During the Clinton Administration Al Gore pushed and encouraged energy efficiency and alternate fuel resources. After Al Gore’s presidential election defeat to Georgia W. Bush in 2000, Gore focused his full attention back on global warming. Al Gore Traveled across the United States and around the world presenting a slide show featuring the concerns of global warming. Using updated material and animation “An Inconvenient Truth” was created. In this film that was the fifth highest grossing documentary to date in the United States; Al Gore puts forth an argument about our climate.

When thinking of global warming, one could picture a line of dominos. Imagine if someone had knocked over just one domino, what would happen to the rest of the dominos in the line? The others would follow. Global warming can be compared to dominos in that both cause a chain reaction. Carbon dioxide could very well represent the first domino since it is carbon dioxide that creates the blanket-like effect of CO2 in the atmosphere. This blanket effect sets the other dominos in motion.

Think of a person riding downhill on a bicycle that has no brake on the wheels, and who knows that there is a large glass plate placed vertically somewhere across the way. The person is sensible enough to predict that if he continues to enjoy this ever accelerating ride, he is going to collide against the invisible glass plate in a short interval. But he is so deeply content on this ride that even after the knowledge of a certain accident ahead unless he jumps out of the bicycle, he is willing to go a bit farther for his personal fulfillment. Today, we face a similar situation in which we are seemingly unwilling to help ourselves out of a possibly disastrous problem of global temperature rise.

The issue is simple and rather obvious; climate change is real and a problem. With a changing climate comes rising sea levels, hotter days, and stronger and wilder storms, and long painful droughts. What most people can’t seem to agree on is whether or not human activity is playing some role in it. From media outlets to internet forums, the debate is being fought on all fronts. Most of these arguments, however, are just personal opinions and poorly-made observations from the comfort of a gas-guzzling SUV. Honestly, it doesn’t take a genius to look up a legitimate scientific paper and see the data for yourself. Human activity is influencing the global climate in a negative way, with plenty of evidence to prove it and very little disagreement in the scientific community.

Though gasoline cars make lives of humans easier to travel, it threatens the environment. Climate is defined as weather conditions existing in a particular area over a period of time. When changes in weather patterns start to occur, this is called climate change. Peter Singer describes carbon emissions would extinguish human life. Climate change is a disastrous event because there is a wide range of environmental impacts affecting life expectancy. In different geographical areas, climates will change if temperatures influence them to fluctuate. The major cause of climate change is human expansion of the greenhouse effect. Kolbert presents scientific research about climate change and global warming leading to a global catastrophe. Any process that causes the Earth’s temperature to become imbalanced affects the climate. While climate change is a natural process, purchasing a SUV and doing human activities of all kinds has impacted on the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels for energy.

Heralded as one of the most controversial subjects since it’s rise in popularity in the early 2000s, global warming has been the topic of many fierce debates. It has risen to rank fourth in what Americans fear most, overcoming things such as crime, their future and natural disasters. The fear of the unknown in regards to the current climate crisis terrifies the public more than the uncertainty of their own lives. The issue of global warming stems from many sources, while some occur naturally in our environment, a majority derive from the enormous amounts of pollutants being produced by the human populace. The bulk of pollutants emerge from the use of non-renewable resources such as oil, coal, and natural gas; all of which are used to sustain the conventional day to day life of the American population. This ever-growing fear is met with the concern of extremely limited non-renewable resources humans depend on, that if disrupted, would ruin countless lives around the world. The United States needs to make advancements to rely solely on clean and renewable energy because of it’s limitless abundance, the relative cost in comparison to the inefficient energy sources used today, and the detrimental effects of non-renewable energy.

As the threat posed by global warming continues to mount, there has been much debate over how to stem the rise in global temperatures. Nearly all experts agree that the primary driver of global warming has been human activity. Over the last century and a half, human activity has released immense amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, altering the Earth’s climate. Yet, although there is a pressing need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, it is impossible to advocate a return to pre-electric, preindustrial times. Modern life depends of the flow of power, and although we must wean ourselves off of fossil fuels, we must have an alternative source of energy. Although green, renewable energy sources like wind and solar have been hailed as the technologies of the future, they are not yet mature enough to shoulder the burden of being our sole source of energy. Until renewable energy technology advances sufficiently, natural gas can serve as an effective bridge fuel, lessening the toll we are taking on the environment while ensuring that we can meet our energy needs.

In such a manner, those involved in environmental conservation have been adamant to determine the cause of the problem, in order to understand and mitigate it effectively (Goldstein 2007, p. 41). One of the hottest topics being discussed now a days is the effects of global warming on the environment and the efforts being made in order to combat the potential effects. Simply put, global warming refers to the environmental effects caused by the constant emission of carbon dioxide from carbon based fuels. These effects are supposedly widespread; the temperature of the earth will rise, the land becomes less conducive to, vegetation, and various ecosystems become extinct.
