Consequence of globalization Globalization levels the playing field, in a way that makes it hard for developed countries to compete. A country with a lower cost structure (lower wages and benefits for workers, less technology advancement, corrupt government and more lenient rules on pollution) is able to make it hard for prosperity. The world economy is becoming increasingly integrated. While globalization brings benefits to developed countries and economies in transition, embracing globalization can also bring new risks to developing countries. Consequently, bad governance and maladministration have become rife all over the country. The government has acknowledged that these challenges indeed do exist and constitute a grave threat to the nation. Bribe is normal and substantiated information shows its becoming common in almost all parts of the government offices. Big internationally funded projects are taking prolonged time and in some occasions there are completion reports of the projects, even though the work hasn’t been completed. Ethiopian government has identified corruption and rent seeking activities as part of the reason Ethiopia was rocked by sweeping unrest in 2016. The Ethiopian government has since then promised to crack down on grand scale corruption which has afflicted one of the world's fastest growing economy and East Africa's largest economy. But According to Ethiopian satellite television (ESAT), “Report of the arrest of senior government officials and their cronies is occupying the headlines of the propaganda apparatus of the regime but there has been no official release as to the identities of the individuals. A similar report of the arrest of 130 government officials was announced six months ago by the mouthpieces of the regime but that report disappeared into thin air with no follow-up statement from the regime nor were there any
