Trafficking in human beings is now the fastest-growing business of organized crime. Men, women and children are trafficked within their own countries and across international borders. More than one person is smuggled across a border every minute which is the equivalent to ten jumbo jets every single day. And the trade earns twice as much as the Coca Cola brand. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014)
According to estimates, more than 700,000 people are trafficked every year for the purposes of sexual exploitation and forced labour. They are transported across borders and sold into modern-day slavery. Over the past decade, trafficking in human beings has reached epidemic proportions. No country is immune. Clawson (2009) discusses how the search for

Although human trafficking is the fastest growing process by which a person is enslaved, it is also the fastest growing international crime and one of the largest growing incomes for organised crime. It is estimated that at least 12.3 million people are victims of forced labour worldwide. Of these 2.4 million are as a result of human trafficking. Consequently it 1.2 million children are trafficked every year.(STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014) Six hundred thousand to eight hundred thousand men, women and children are trafficked across international borders each year. Approximately eighty percent are women and children and up to half of them are minors. Predominantly the vast majority of trafficked people come from the poorest countries and the poorest strata of the national people. Human trafficking is the second largest source of illegal income, being surpassed by drugs trafficking. Some trafficking groups have been reported to be switching their cargo from drugs to human beings, in a search of high profits at a lower risk. (STOP THE TRAFFIK 2014)
Trafficking affects every continent and most countries. Every country is affected by human trafficking whether they are an origin country in which people are trafficked from, a transit country where people are trafficked through or a destination where people are trafficked to. (Masika 2007)
There are three constituent elements of human trafficking. Firstly the act, such as recruitment, transportation,
Globally, about 20 to 30 million people are involved in the human trafficking system, and of those, 14,500 to 17,500 people are trafficked in the United States every year. Human trafficking is more prevalent today then ever before. It is the third largest crime internationally. People are abused and taken advantage of. According to the article, “11 Facts About Human Trafficking,” on average, a person is forced into the system around age 9, and the majority of victims are women and girls, with a small percentage of men and boys. In addition, the human trafficking system is a $32 billion dollar industry. Human trafficking can be defined as the selling and trade of human beings, ranging anywhere from children to adults, for the purpose of
The exploitation of human beings can be highly lucrative for organized criminal groups. Although figures vary, an estimate from the International Labor Organization (ILO) in 2005 indicated that about 2.4 million people are victims of trafficking at any given time, and that profits from trafficking are about $32 billion per year. Recent research on overall forced labor trends however would suggest that the scope of the problem is much bigger. Human trafficking is one of the most lucrative illicit businesses in Europe, with criminal groups making about $3 billion from it per year, making it a considerable criminal business that preys on the world 's most marginalized persons. Human traffickers
She’s the girl who’s running away from her abusive past, the one who is impoverished and looking for a way to make ends meet, or perhaps, she’s the girl who naively fell in love with the wrong man. Regardless of the reasons, there are nearly 30 million victims of human trafficking globally. There are more slaves now than ever before. Trafficking of persons is not a subject that should be ignored or taken lightly. In order to fully understand the enormity of this crisis, we will examine the root causes, facts, and the impact of human trafficking throughout the world.
Although human trafficking and forced labor are some of the global challenges, poverty has played a big role in increasing the vice. The desire by the victims to move to areas where they can improve the living standards of their families has played a big role in increased rates of human trafficking. Most traffickers target these victims by promising
Due to the some of the factors stated above, I believe that human trafficking will only get worse. In my essay, I plan to discuss how these three countries are contributing to it, what theory I used to conduct my research and how it relates to the topic, the level of analysis/structure, sectorial processes, and my future prediction of human trafficking. Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling are often confused. There is a distinct difference between the two. According to the United States Department of States human smuggling is “the facilitation, transportation, attempted transportation or illegal entry of a person(s) across an international border, in violation of one or more countries laws, either clandestinely or through deception, such as the use of fraudulent documents.” Human Trafficking is “the trafficking of persons for the purpose of committing commercial sex acts, or to subject them to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery.”
We live in a world where millions of people are sold into human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation. Millions of lives are destroyed every year by smugglers trying to make a profit out human being. According to the U.S. Department of States, an estimated 20.9 million men, women and children are trafficked for commercial sex or forced labor around the world. Human trafficking relinquish people’s freedom and makes them susceptible to modern slavery.
Caitlin Huber, in her blog, claims that “globally, human trafficking, or modern slavery, generates about US $ 32 billion a year, making it the third-largest criminal activity in the world after drug and arms trafficking” . Human trafficking can be the result of a wide variety of factors depending on the nations, region, type of trafficking and other cultural and social factors. However, there are some specific traits that are found with trafficking in general, even across distant far off regions. These include violence, poverty, oppression, low standard of living, civil unrest, internal conflicts or war, suppression of human rights, and a general lack of opportunity for better jobs and life. The most vulnerable to trafficking are those
There are many forms of Human Trafficking, but one consistent aspect is the abuse of the inherent vulnerability of the victims. Trafficking for forced labor is one form of human trafficking. Victims of this widespread form of trafficking come primarily from developing countries. They are recruited and trafficked using deception and coercion and find themselves held in conditions of slavery in a variety of jobs. Man, women and children are engaged in agricultural, fisheries and construction work, along with domestic servitude and other labour-intensive jobs. Trafficking in women for sexual exploitation is another form of human trafficking. This prevalent form of trafficking affects every region in the world, either as a source, transit or destination country. Women and children from developing counties, and form vulnerable parts of society in developed counties, are lured by promises of decent employment into leaving their homes and travelling to what they consider will be a better life. Victims are often provided with false travel documents and an organized network is used to transport them to the destination country where they find themselves forced into sexual slavery and held in inhumane conditions and constant fear. Next is people smuggling which is closely connected to trafficking in human beings is the issue of people smuggling. This has taken on new proportions in recent months,
Intro: Human trafficking is one of the most prevalent and shameful crimes that occurs globally and it affects the lives of millions of people around the world today. It is also a common form of modern day slavery that is a clear violation of an individual's rights as a human being. Because human trafficking is an issue that occurs globally, there are no particular demographical characteristics or features that this may affect. Despite the fact that most people are aware of this significant issue, human trafficking remains to be one of the most unseen and neglected issues in our society.
Although both processes are illegal, only human trafficking violates fundamental human rights. Human trafficking is the largest growing industry in the world. The most recent Trafficking in Persons Report of the Department of State from 2010 states that about 800,000 people are trafficked across borders annually and a total number of approximately 12.3 million persons are currently in forced labor, bonded labor, and forced prostitution worldwide, with the majority of trafficking victims being women and children (Dep. of State 8). The ebook Human Trafficking: An Overview by the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking states that the victims are recruited through abduction or kidnapping, false promises about legitimate employment or legal residence permits, and selling by families. The majority of the victims, however, knew the traffickers personally before being trafficked (UN GIFT 21-22). Human trafficking has emerged throughout the last years because slave traffickers have discovered the profitability of trading people. According to the Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking, estimated annual profits from human trafficking amount up to US$31.7 billion (UN GIFT 7).
Forced to flee their country because of persecution, war, or violence, a refugee is left vulnerable to trafficking and abuse. Often women and children are known to be the main targets of traffickers. They are bought into the system through false promises such as promises for the better future, then they are exploited in the worst ways possible like prostitution or sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery and removal of organs. This so-called "business" gained $31.6 billion of international trade per annum in 2010.It is alerting to know that human trafficking is known to be one of the fastest-growing activities of trans-national criminal organizations.
In 2007, the U.S. state Department reported, “600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year,” “1 million is the number of children exploited by the global commercial sex trade every year,” and “161 countries identified as affected by human trafficking” (Polaris Project, DoSomething.org).
Human Trafficking is something that goes around all over the world. In this essay I will discuss what human trafficking is, how it is done and give three countries who are mainly known for this kind of inhuman act. The three countries are countries that are vey much known and are known as Bangladesh, Brazil and Ghana. All three countries are known for tourism so human trafficking is expected to be in act, especially if its over populated and having different people from different countries coming in and out. Human Trafficking is not something that should be promoted or celebrated and should be put to a stop. It is not fair for people to be taken against their will from their families and friends. Men, women, and even kids are being taken, so a person should never just think they’re special if not caught they are blessed instead. Human trafficking is sickening and a disgrace to every nation and country possible.
Human Trafficking affects all genders but especially women and children and forces them into prostitution or other types of exploitation. Trafficking is very horrible, and socially it is a problem that many countries are facing. The United States must try to curve the amount of trafficking cases, to cutdown the effects of victim drug dependency, health problems, and psychological problems. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime:
Human trafficking has become a major global issue as this dangerous trend of smuggling people continues to increase in the
